This album is brilliant

that's all

Isn't it snow brigade, rather than "snowflake cave" ...

What did the new songs sound like then?

'it's contagious; it's outrageous'

same lyrics as jeremy's masterpeiece in peep show ...

I enjoyed that.

DiS could really do with copy-editor though.

hmm

I bought this last night on a whim and am yet to listen to them (other than hearing 'Always Like This' a few times - which I enjoyed). Am hoping I like it more than the reveiwer!

new band is awesome

lots of tribal drums. not that the old one was bad - just the new songs wouldn't have worked so well live without the change

Even if it's half as good as Black On Both Sides

I'll be chuffed - haven't got my hopes up though.

t'is great song from a very good album

I thought it was a bit overlooked in the end of year lists.

For anyone who doesn't know, Idlewild are planning on doing some album shows in London this year according to Roddy's blog on their new website - hope it happens! I think it was April or May but I can't remember.

i was joking

, it only sounds like will young on one song! but i just can't get into it and i don't understand the acclaim because it doesn't bring anything exciting to the table - it feels throw away - no sense of emotion or passion and it's not exactly heavy on melody either. just seems weird it's the same band that wrote wolf like me, blues from down here etc. i really wanted to like it - i don't download albums, so i take it disappointment more personally that i probably should because it's money that could be spent on better records.

there was a lot of let downs

i still don't get the love for the tv on the radio album. are people pretending to like it ... because it really sounds like will young to me - i didn't want a carbon copy of return to cookie mountain but i don't think this is what people really wanted? i don't know though - everyone else is enjoying it.

haven't bought many lps this year but

vessels (is fucking brilliant), drever, mckusker and woomble and kanye west, cut copy and elbow are definitely stand outs.

i know it wasn't released this year (or decade) but the best discovery has been eels- electroshock blues - fucking excellent album (thanks to the people on the boards that recommended me it).

felt like there was a lot of disappointments this year - errors, tv on the radio, even mogwai (although i did play it a lot around the release).

i said it's NOT their weakest!

there was no moaning - i said it was a really cool article! what more do you want!!
it's this site that usually knocks them, past news stories have called them 'once good but not good anymore'! personally i love 'em

it's not their weakest

that's reserved for warnings/promises! it's definitely not as good as 100bw and the remote part though (my joint favourites). i like captain and maw equally - a lot.

really cool article; would be nice to have roddy speaking about each and every one on the albums. the glasgow gigs are gonna be great - wish i could have got more than a remote part ticket
getting excited about hearing new material. anyone know got any idea who's producing it?

just about to order...

very excited - april feels like too far away!

Think Tank is my favourite Blur album

It has a cohesive feel and a sense of maturity about it - not sure a reformation with Coxon would be a good idea, it'd be a step back.

It's got some Prefab Sprout on it

thus it is instantly saved from 'shit playlist' status!

'Makers of sub-Chilli Peppers dreary funk-balladry'

i really wish DiS news wasn't so opinionated - leave that for the reviews and the board.

it's not really a simulation is it?

guitar skills can't transferred to guitar hero - the controller doesn't have frets or strings!
it's just a fun interactive computer game

a simulation of a guitar would be one of those virtual instrument things on a program like garage band or something?

the new guy

will only get to play one night then if bob does play and they bring gavin up on the w/p night.

i'd be gutted after learning all those songs for the best of and b sides gigs!

someone said on the boards

that's hes playing the first 3 nights ...

*idlewild

why would this be the end for idelwild?

they played a new song in bristol a few weeks back and roddy has said they're recording a new lp in jan 09.
no-one thought biffy would split after they did exactly the same thing.

think the 5day ticket is unavailable because it's sold out. i got a remote part ticket - would have loved 100bw to but was too slow.

my album of the year (so far)

i always thougth they were good but the album blew me away

i want this to be true

just not sure i can trust the stills after the last album; biggest let down of my music listening life!

good review

the first positive review of this album i've read.
hope it's as good as you say - can't help but thinking nas has had his time ...

he also picks the worst beats to work on out of any credible mainstream rapper so hope he breaks the trend here.

on the political hip-hop side of things the new big boi single (something's gotta give) is ace.

the sound is always good

but i feel so uncool - everyone looks like they've walked out of a fashion mag!

i'll be at this though - vessels are so good live.

can't wait for this

last time i saw them they played a song that passed the realms of epic - it just kept gaining momentum - at the end it sounded like a whole orchestra was playing with them.

i hope that's sarcasm!

yeah they deserve a bit of credit for it

at least they're trying to do something different.

first band i ever saw live so will always have a soft spot for them anyway!

i was at that gig too

the oakford is quite nice (if a bit too fashionable for the likes of me).

trip wires were quite good - did they used to be the enigma project or am i imagining this?

what did you think of elle milano? i'm undecided

this is a nice suprise

i'll be going to this. does anyone know if sakura (where fez used to be) is still used as a gig venue?

also little_discourage, if you're from reading (and you clearly like idlewild) you might wanna see the race at the rising sun art centre next month - dave eringa produced their new album and they're about the only good band left in reading.

i was gonna say this

but thought everyone would call me a pedant!

walla does all the easy guitar bits these days

not again

change the fucking record

powerful performance from Robots in Disguise?

words i never thought i'd read near each other

Ize of the World was good

but i think that was the only high-point of the second half.

Room On Fire is their best album. No-one ever agrees but I hope that one day they will understand (like when people decided Costner's Waterworld was ok)

anyway, they deserve one more chance

does anyone else hate the yelps that Chris Martin keeps making

when he's singing live?

other than that he's not a bad person

there's nothing wrong with the actual songs on this record

but yet again the production is cleaner than a fucking detox factory - it makes it hard to listen to. if coldplay just recorded their songs live of something they'd be an excellent band

yeah

some of their old songs and b sides are really good too so a compilation album would be ace

faded seaside glamour was a good debut

but delays are so much better live than on record - they're albums are always way too glossy.

no you;re not

b
Being Here is horrible - sounds like an editors song or something. snakecharming is ok though.

yeah the second record was really crud

i loved their first album so much - i still listen to it quite often. i'll probably by this in hope of it being just half as good

they've had

3 excellent albums (at dawn, it still moves and z) so i wouldn't say they're that inconsistant - plus some of their old tracks and ep stuff is ace too.

i was really looking forward to this album but everything i've heard is really negative. think i'll try and borrow before i buy - that's if i buy at all.

The Smiths below average?

even their B sides are excellent!

morrissey's solo stuff has definately had its peaks and troughs though

discovery

discovery is such a good record. i used to listen to it before every night out without fail (until bright like neon love by cut copy took its place)

ps. that's a really cool first album! mine was the best of the bangles

yes you are!

death cab for cutie

came out this month too- was hoping for a DiS review

^^

albert_swearengen: best DiS name ever
