Twee.

Is. Not. Pejorative.

I finally broke down and bought Illinois today.

I have been listening to it since its release and felt bad never buying it, so I bought the LP.

Hooooly shit.

Low?

Holy crap

I haven't heard that name in a coon's age. I had completely forgotten they existed. Glad to see some press, though!

Yeah, I really liked this record.

Osaka Loop Line and Orange Shirt are really great, and I love the guest spots from Angel Deradoorian and Ezra Koenig.

Tickets on sale today for Portland

I'm buying mine tomorrow. I'm so fucking happy. =D

WHY

Can't. I. Be. BRITISH.

Fuck I hate America sometimes.

I agree with georgiakral.

Wavves is good. Really good. It's not like he just put out Funeral or Automatic for the People or anything like that, but he makes great music. Putting that aside, the dude has gone from being absolutely nobody, to one of the more talked about acts around, in Vampire Weekend-like time. How would you handle it if your practice-after-you've-run-all-your-errands-on-Saturday band suddenly, and without warning, ended up at Primavera? Pretty fucking scared. That's no reason to do drugs, but he probably would have lost his shit without the drugs.

Also, P4k actually summed this all up best a few weeks ago in the review for Eminem's Relapse: "Let's think big picture here: In some corners of the indie community, people quibble about whether Wavves are overhyped, even though 99% of America have absolutely no fucking clue who they are."

Really this is all a little like that episode of South Park where they destroy Britney Spears for the harvest. It's news because it's something that happened involving a musician that people on Pitchfork and the like listen to, but other than that it's just nonsense that it's been covered to death. Leave Nathan alone.

Ya know

I really liked Sky Blue Sky, goddamnit. It had freaking Impossibly Germany, and NOBODY can deny that's one of their best songs.

God I hope not.

I haven't listened to the new album, but I did listen to the last one and thoroughly enjoyed it. That said, I love me some Bright Eyes. I'd hate to see him/them (whatever) die.

Excellent review.

However 6/10 is fairly generous. 3/10 is about right. It was an OKAY album, but in hindsight it's Oasis. They should be better than okay.

RE: Pah

Even with Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors, it's ace. Amnesiac doesn't get the praise it deserves.

Just saw them

In Portland, OR. Second time I'e seen them live, and they failed to disappoint yet again.

I met Craig Finn before the show. What a nice man. I met Franz Nicolay as well, who nearly stole my ticket after I had him sign it. Best thing to happen to me, ever.

GO TO THIS SHOWWWW

Yes yes

I was like "WES ANDERSON!" the minute the first chapter title came on, and it just progressed from there. Also a lot like a Decemberists video.

Standing around playing

At least Yorke shows emotion. Anyone been to a fucking Justice show? I've never seen such lack of emotion, ever.
Maybe from a Vulcan.

Also, I always say this, but Craig Finn of The Hold Steady is a performer to the core. I've never seen anyone so happy to be on stage in my life.

Excellent.

I've never heard of Get Well Soon before, but I think I'll check this album out. It sounds like it may be great.

Ten Grand!

Woohoo! Excellent!

^Thirded^

I also happen to like A Rush Of Blood To The Head quite a lot.

X&Y was shite though.

ALSO...

I put that song on, and it's like Mr. Blue Sky fucked A Day In The Life. What the hell is this.

Ya know?

You're right. I saw this feature and went, "Buh?!"

And what's more, they seem to LIKE it... what the crap, DiS!

Alls I know is this:

Since the album leaked, I've listened to it too many times to count. They're twee as fuck, but I don't honestly care. It's perfection.

Er.

They deserve more credit than they GET.
Stupid wandering mind.

RE: Ace

Lord, I hope not. From The Ground Up was the tops. They deserve more credit than they deserve.

Field Music!

I voted for them. That album was amazing.

Excellent review, excellent record.

I've been listening to this record since it was released stateside and oh, how I adore it. Erlend Øye is nothing if he isn't brilliant.

I think...

She's trying to say that NOTHING IS REAL.

RE: the way I am...

Ohbyjesus, an Eminem cover would be splendid. The video for Kanye West's "Can't Tell Me Nothing" with Oldham was perfect.

Woah

A zero? Hot damn. How can it be that terrible?

Only a wee bit?

I plumb forgot about this record. It's been at least a year-and-a-half since I've listened to is, which makes me sad. It's a fucking brilliant album.

Do you hear that?

Do you hear that noise?

It's the sound of Lennon spinning in his grave.

If you hooked that fellow up to a dynamo, he would be able to power a city the size of Minneapolis.

Hah!

Curious question, Jon.

Great record, regardless of the number of vaginas the lass on the cover has.

Emo!?

How the fuck is this shit emo, exactly?
Follow up: Why was that term hijacked in the first place?

Yeah, it's really fucked up.

I agree completely. This is precisely the reason people steal music.

Stateside, the record was going for $17 a week after release. Small price compared to Australia, but regardless, it's madness. I'm never going to understand why CDs are more expensive NOW than when they were first being produced.

THIS is why I download music. Some albums are worth it, but holy fuck, my wallet has a limit.

Y'know...

I trust DiS. Really. They're the tops because they always seem to be dead right when it comes to record reviews.

I had to take a double take when I saw the Boys And Girls In America review, and this single review. I've lost a lot of faith with these two reviews, what, with giving an absolutely BRILLIANT record a terrible review, and giving the two best songs from said record a worse review. Bollocks.

That said, I'm seeing these guys at the end of the month. I can't fucking wait.

A 6?!

Are you mad? This record deserves an 8, and nothing lower.

The presence of Circle Takes The Square almost merits a perfect 10, but I'll be fair on this. It's really a good album. It takes some getting use to, but it's worth the work.

In other news, I really wish CTTS would put out a new record. Their appearance here is great, but I'd be happy if they'd put out at least one other album. I'd be really unhappy if they split after a stellar release like As The Roots Undo. But, that's just me.

Excuse me?

You. Take. That. Back.
Right now.

No, no...

Even if he was cremated, his ashes would be turning in their urn.

RE: PUT IT LIKE THIS:

I greet this with a standing ovation.

Even if the record was shit, it would be wonderful for not being the shit that people seem to love these days (i.e. Keane; Evanesence; Mika.)

The fact that the record is quite good, for the most part, makes it even better.

The Jay-Z Mash-Up...

...really did surprise me, actually.

I'd thought Jay-Z had more integrity than that. I was wrong, of course. Oh, and how wrong I was...

Rubbish.

Terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE music.

To date, I've given away four records: All three Linkin Park records, and Weezer's Make Believe.

To think I spent money on all four...

Dear me...

Excellent review.
I completely agree that "Declare Independence" is very "Pluto"-esque.

I'm not quite sure quite yet...but I'm beginning to think that Volta is way up on my list, tied with Homogenic, my favourite record of hers.

Only time will tell.
