I love the black heart procession but the singers don't have deep voices
the main guy is kinda whinney, I always though they would sound so much better with deep tindersticks style vocals
^
some nice live footage but overall the worst aspects of atp magnified
^ not a patch on the first mvb album
that album is an underappreciated gem
I agree it is underwhelming
first couple of listens I thought it was really great but the novelty soon wore off, the loud songs are pretty good but the quiet ones are just too vague. I'd say it is my least favourite mount eerie release (dawn > pts 6 and 7 > 7 old songs > no flashlight=lost wisdom=white stagg > live in copenhagen > eleven old songs > winds poem)
whenever I've seen them he has played a fair few classics
the big picture, sunrise sunset, a song to pass the time (once with a almost post rock harp extended intro, amazing), june on the west coast, from a balance beam, a scale..., make war, false advertising, waste of paint, the calander hung itself, all well after the albums came out, I dont think he was anymore adverse to playing old stuff than any other band, probably the most old songs he played were from fevers and mirrors which is weird as youd expect that to be the album he dislikes the most
although I don't like the bit about wanting to get away from certain associations
one thing I always liked about bright eyes is how little he cared about stuff like that, he never seemed to care about accusations of self pity/indulgance and just sang about how he felt with no regard to how bad it made him look, hope he doesnt go to 'mature'
^
it took awhile but eventually I came to release the self titled is really good. For all the slightly cringey country there are still some haunting songs, white shoes on the new one is up there with bright eyes' best, and the gentlemans pact EP is amazing. So i'm not bothered about this news, except it would be a shame if he never plays bright eyes songs live again.
nice
anyone know how big troxy is?
15 seconds of a muse song
and credit for inflicting it on the world is even worse a prize
good idea but what a rubbish prize
one song that you can also stream from their website
could do with out Jim James and M Ward
but the rest is good news
i'm not a fan of domestica
I think it has an underlying dullness that I can't quite describe
for me such blinding stars for starving eyes will always be there finest moment with the ugly organ a close 2nd
I agree
I think by the time of happy hollow the good life had grown from side project to fully fledged band so he made a concious effort to keep the heavier cursive and more subtle good life sounds apart but here they blend together and sounds the better for it.
I think he has let other band members contribute songs
it was funny in an annoying way live but why weaken his album, still should be good, the last one was underrated
I love roman candle by bedhead
it sounds like the blueprint for pavements gentler songs
they were first brought to my attention by the xiu xiu song dr troll
"listen to 'on fire' pretend someone could love you" I took jamie stewarts advice and i'm glad I did, amazing band. Bought the 'don't let our youth go to waste' dvd recently, a bit of a lazy product but still great all the same
no way
the white birch makes all other music seem excessive, CODY has some great moments but there is a lot of filler and doesn't come close to match the stark mood of the white birch
"the record industry is only making 5% of the money it could potentially be making"
a pretty stupid statement. They should probably stop regarding filesharing as theft and instead see it as free promotion, people will still want the 'real thing', of course few people pay for downloads why would they when the cd/vinyl is so similar in price
1. mount eerie - dawn (1st best album of 2008 written in a wintery cabin)
2. Grouper - dragging a dead dear up a hill
3. Conor Oberst - s/t
4. Bon Iver - for emma for ever ago (2nd best album of 2008 written in a wintery cabin, take note iver artic norway is more hardcore than wisconsin, you need to rais your game)
5. Beach House - DEvotion
6. High Places - High Places
7. Times New Viking - Rip it off
8. A silver mt zion - 13 blues (soley on the strength of blindblindblind)
I kind of think it is up to a band to have a photo policy
so fair do's, I also think gigs would be infinately better if cameras were banned. It definately wasnt of montreal because they played long before mogwai.
black heart procession :)
scala :(

I was whelmed
I think this album is a solid 8. I do wish he would let go of the country thing abit but this album is alot better than I was expecting, laid back but vibrant on first impression but his albums never truely reveal themselves straight away so it could get even better.
crazy talk
he misses the mark occasionally but he really raised the bar of indie lyricists
yes
I think the desa album is the best indie-rock album of all time, the fact they threw it together in a couple of days is quite amazing
I got stuck in traffic on the way to reading one year
my car stalled and I didnt realise because I was listening to music so loudly I couldnt hear the lack of engine, my car was a bit rubbish and my car stereo drained the battery. I couldnt get the car to start again, this was tight on that reading/festival/caversham roundabout. I think it was possibly the worst place to have ever broken down at the worst possible time. When I finally got there I couldn't get a ticket, normally when they say it has sold out they are lying but this year they were telling the truth.
I think saddle creek should get a mention
just because the potential for them to sell out is huge, it is not like some diy or punk label where they would lose fans, they would lose no one so the fact they haven't is admirable.
Also constellation, K, tomlab always reliable
because the level of promotion
they gave radiohead in the past is a large part of their success
I have no sympathy for them
and they certainly wouldnt be anywhere near where they are today without emis promotion

I think Krist is under Grohls thrall
after seeing novoselic a couple of years ago im pretty sure grohl must have performed some kind of voodoo curse to maintain his eternal youth by sucking it right out of novoselic
