This is

a brilliant album, some of his finest work. Give the man a Mercury FFS.

That's a bit harsh.

I may not agree with the style of the review for a remaster, but let's not get prickish and unfairly personal on the writing, which is good.

Sounds

Identical to the original to me.

Stop

With the needless long intros into reviews. And, if you do, get your facts right... Adele only put her middle finger up.

I like how he has decided to not write any lovey dovey songs on here... that's a tough task. I think it's brilliant... quite dark and even a tad oppressive at times. A million miles from Spinning Top, which was also brilliant.

No mention of 'Meet and Drink and Pollinate' in the review, which I think is a TRACK.

Coxon is a genius, end of S.T.O.R.Y.

Worth pointing out...

that David Maclean's older brother John is from Beta band and The Aliens.

Explains a lot!

From here...

Front cover looks like view of a girl looking down at her crotch area wearing a denim top and no bottoms.

Thanks

Love how...

pissed off pretty much every woman looks at Katy playing in the crowd!

a shiny new video for a rack from that record

Got boobies on your mind, Luke?

Good video, love VGs!

Master of Puppets

is better than most things in the world.

I really like Virtue, think it unfair to send people back 20 years to listen to something else that is already highly praised/loved and pretty much shoved in every female musicians face at every opportunity.

Master of Puppets > me > you!

I am an

idiot. But I like this record.

Oh so...

Girl with guitar does well in music but will be forever compared to and outdone by PJ Harvey... bravo, whoop. Fuck off.

Oh heres' a metal album... it's pretty good, but listen to Master Of Puppets.

Love this...

So much. The live CD with it great too, he is a magnetic performer in his own way...

The chorus to "...Snat" always remind me of Bowie, without sounding try hard at all.

10/10 for me.

or sub-ed...

or whoever, because there are some odd typos going on, including three instances of the artist's name gone wrong.

Sorry. It is a great write-up though, really enjoyed it, well thought out and delivered, much like I hope this album to be.

Excellent

can't wait to hear the full thing!

Great write-up but sack the editor.

yep...

but this got a 4 god damn it!! ;_

Ah, you know what I mean though. James Blake aside, I guess it has been fine to sound like the 60s, 70s and 80s for so long and now the 90s seems taboo or wrong.

personally, I love this sound and would actually say Yuck have succeeded because the songs are actually very, very good.

BUT, like this review, I'll just have to accept other's opinions. Still though, Rubber sounds f-all like The Pixies. I should have left my point there.

have you ever...

heard The Pixies??

Awful review. Yes, the music is highly inspired by certain bands from a certain era, but that is overlooking the fact that these guys are 20 years old and writing the kind of songs most of us would kill to.

Go listen to James Blake, the epitomy of earnest music.

Nice to know...

The Americans know how to NOT dance at gigs too. My girlfiend was front row at the Brixton 1,000th show though and said it went off... she was relieved for Howl's quieter moments during the set.

Good to hear!

I really enjoyed the first and seeing them live... looking forward to hearing this now.

Only if you see...

the whole video. Anyway, I don't think it compliments the song very well and this style has been done to death. It's a little too American metal for my liking.

"Funeral (which they'll never match again, I'm sure)"

Eurgh. let's not go down that road.

"I think the thing about this band is that the early material is so good that everybody had hoped they'd be like The Smiths/early REM/Kraftwerk/Radiohead/whoever, just blasting out record after record that people love fanatically."

I think they are probably one of those bands, to be honest. For me, anyway. At least more than any other band in the last 10 years.

Good review, by the way.

Not to mention...

The confederate flag? Come on, people.

I love this band and that song and the album(s)

But that is a shit video.

Needs more Katie and not this bird who people are gonna assume is her.

Sorry.

The lyircs are all the same

and the music is all the same.

It's not an album you can say much about really... maybe more criticism of the one-dimensional songs or maybe credit that the album sticks to its guns about being "crazy" for someone. Perhaps a lil' bit more on influences but it doesn't demand an in-depth analysis. For me, anyway.

It's just a fun record, totally unpretentious on one hand and totally pretentious on the other.

I hate it when people

comment just to slag off the writer. Not really called for.

I think the laid back approach to this review is just about all the laidback approach to this album is due.

If Sam Lewis listened to this album stoned and write this review with a cat on his or her lap then more power to Sam Lewis.

It's in context...

and a fair one too, Jamb031.

I do have a gripe with this line though:

"As refreshing as it is to hear an indie-rock record fronted by a strong female voice"

There have been an influx of girl-fronted lo-fi, reverb... blah blah bands over the past two years. Vivian Girls are no doubt the pick of the bunch and it's not a bad thing to have these groups but it's heading further toward tiresome than refreshing for me.

Other than that, I agree with this review.

Steve Mason

not as good as Kate Nash?

Lotta love up in 'eeeere

And I'm gonna add to it, because I, my good sirs/madames

The Wave Pictures.

You obviously haven't...

seen the dress code in Dalston. It's very English nowadays. Plus, what makes you think they sound American? Got an English accent all the way through the album.

Superb record...

This is a big step up sound and atmosphere wise - takes a few listens to actually get your head around it. So many layers.

I love this album...

you call his lyrics "simplistic" and "hollow", whereas, for me, they are all the more refreshing for it. BB doesn't play around with metaphors or "hidden agendas" too much - he makes cheesy seem cool.

The songs are tremendously well crafted, you can feel the love oozing out of them.

It's not for everyone, but it is certainly a hell of a lot better than anything Jack White has put out in the last 5 years.

Arsenal

Arsenal FC

^

Indeed.

Kaiser Chiefs?

?

Surprised

No mention of 'Falling Down', one of Noel's finest moments I reckon...

Agreed...

The word "Excellence" is somewhat surprisingly followed up by the 7/10, in my opinion.

Sounds

Good to me.

I don't know what the fuss is about.

You not got bored...

Of posting these lyrics yet?

he must miss...

They days of everyone with devil horns, leaning over the barrier with beer and god knows what flying everywhere...

People spend too much time looking through their phones to really enjoy it.

Nope..

I've thought that for a while...

Well....

at one point Hetfield said something along the lines of "call your mummy's later, youtube won't make you famous" - so I have read...

BBQ'd*

Oh, and that 'no t-shirts' at bands gigs is everything that is wrong with music fans these days.

Wouldn't you...

After nearly 30 years of hard rocking, touring, drink, drugs and being BBQ's by pyro???

I think he look good for his 45.

Rob Trullijo

Looks like he would eat you alive.

I think the girl looks the hardest one in Glasvegas. I'm thinking some in-between-breast-suffocation would be her style.

Happy 'Talli' are number 1.

Ruel Fox...

very true.

Scored an away penalty at old Trafford in 1993. The same trick wasn't repeated until 2007.

Good review...

I love these guys... Mica is just mesmerising.

The sound at the Macbeth wasn't the best though, I've literally heard them sound 10 times better. But I heard the sound is always shit at the Macbeth.

And the bouncer there was a douche. he wouldn't let people on the roof garden unless they were smoking!!?? It's not like people were fighting to get out there.

But, anyways, I hope Micachu gets the credit she deserves for her originality and great band.

This isn't just a review...

This is a delicious tantalising, handcrafted review - wild berries embedded in mouthwatering, slick jelly, topped with silky smooth sponge and the best cream squeezed from only Devonshire farmhouse cows of the upmost quality.

I'm hungry now!!

A bad band

to listen to wth a hangover

Why niche

?
