Stunning album
and a rather spiffing review. Saw them live in Newcastle last week which only enhanced my love for the band. Can't stop listening to the album at the moment. Very excited about this band.
North.
You call that North? Bloody Southerners. haha.
I'm the guy
in the grey top. Just to clarify.
These are me...

I trust them (myspace and youtube)
and I don't see why any body shouldn't but the fact of the matter, as far as I am concerned at least, is that I simply prefer to go into an actual shop and buy CDs from a real person and probably always will.
I don't think selling music this way will take off particularly. If they want to buy a track they'll just go straight to iTunes or whatever downloading service they use. Same goes for gig tickets. People go on to youtube to look at stuff for free, seems like a bit backward thinking to me but then what do I know? Technology confuses me for the most part.
Seconded
When I first heard tracks like We Are Rockstars, Let's Make Out, Weird Science and Battle Royale on their myspace many moons ago I thought they were a very promising electro type outfit, if a little dull in places. I have since seen them live twice and my initial impression has been proved utterly wrong.
Their songs struggle to go anywhere interesting most of the time and there is a huge feeling of simply cashing in on a zeitgeist.
Hopefully future material will better know where it's going and the direction it takes will be more towards quality electronic music rather than synthy, ostentatious Topshop/NME rubbish.
He looks like The Fonz
all the time.
Oooohhh, Dev-on Townsend
For a few seconds there I was thinking it was Devin Townsend.
I think MO were worthy of slightly more than a 5
a 6 or 7 I felt.
Anathallo did completely steal the show though.
Statements retracted.
It's grown on me. I love it. Only 'The Science of Love' is a bit dodgy.
7/10
5/10 would be pretty accurate
Disappointing :'(
Moments of real euphoria, but just as many moments of utter underwhelment. Is that even a word? Ah well, you get the point. Earlier recordings of Black man's Breakfast and It's Hair Smelled Like Bonfire were much better.
Completely average. Shame, big shame :(
Do Reading and Leeds have similar deals?
Hence Metallica and Funeral For A Friend appearing at Download as 'secret' bands in 2003 and 2005?
Well it surely won't be
Chilis or Pumpkins and they both headlined last year.
My money would be on ratm, metallica and mcr.
yay, yay, boo.
I own their first album
and have had this on pre-order for months. I've been a big fan since I stumbled upon them on Purevolume a couple of years ago. I just thought they were absolutely bonkers and were giving us something that sounded different to anything I had ever heard before. I absolutely loved what I heard and they are a band that make me just wanna jump about and shout like a prick for 40 minutes. I adore their first record. They are very much a 'marmite' band however, I admit that.
I was a little concerned after the first album when their new songs (It's Hair Smelled Like Bonfire and Black Man's Breakfast) seemed to take a turn for the worse. They felt more measured and calculated for a rock-pop audience, (albeit a 'freaky' one) which sat quite uncomfortably with me after what, as far as I am concerned, was a debut that felt much more natural.
Will have to wait until 'Introducing' lands on my door step before I decide for myself if I think they have flowered or shrivelled since The Flamingo Trigger.
I must say your review and Mr Diplock's comments don't fill me with much faith, but we shall see...
Whenever I see/hear/read them interviewed
Tom and Serge just seem to me, Tom particularly, to just model themselves entirely on Noel and Liam Gallagher. Which in my books, is never a good thing. They annoy me. They're disgustingly arrogant.
Fairly decent band, not been massively impressed with either album, but neither has been bad. Thoroughly average live too.
Plus they're from Leicester. They are a stain on my home region lol.
I Don't
Want to get my hopes up too much, but it's can't get any worse than it has been since '..And Justice' can it?
With Rubin involved hopefully they have been reminded how to write proper Thrash songs, or at least as proper a Thrash song as four 40-somethings can make.
Anything similar to The Black Album in its stylings will be acceptable, no ideal, but acceptable. They rarely play anything live from any later than 91 anyway so why write something that won't stick around in the set?
Here's hoping for an 80's revival lol.
Brilliant read
Delightful interview.
It's made me stick their albums on now. It's been a while since I've listened and I'm absolutely loving it. So for that reason alone, I am grateful but it was also just a damn good, genuinely interesting interview. Great stuff.
Oooo and
nothing but "big things" from The Kissaway Trail.
I think
that these will have good years...
I Was A Cub Scout (hardly a shocking or revealing choice but the album is out in a month or so and having just looked at the track listing it should be single-tastic)
Somebody mentioned The Ghost Frequency. I got a single of theirs to review in the summer and have been expecting them to get pretty big ever since, not that I'm all that impressed.
I also agree with those who have tipped Fanfarlo.
I also think, or hope, that Mr Luke Lieghfield will do well for himself.
British Sea Power probably won't get much bigger then they are now, but I can see this new album of theirs doing well for them. Second stage at Reading/Leeds well.
The Small Screen Light Show too.
Codes In The Clouds.
Cazals too.
True Story
My cousin is from Scunny and went to school with him.
Believe.
Underwhelmed
utterly.
Please don't blow IoW up though. It's a lovely place.
Maybe just shoot the festival organisers for dancing on the grave of what I hear people calling the 'British Woodstock'?
I went last year because my traditional festival that weekend, Download, was hideous. Muse, Stones, Groove Armarda and Kasabian were there. That was it, all I deemed worth watching. This year, The Police and Iggy. Sweet.
No thanks.
I more likely to contemplate taking my money back to Download again at this rate. And for the record, that's not going to happen. At all. Ever.
Beirut and Band of Horses....
...on Jools Holland?!?!!! When is this to be broadcast?
Might actually be worth tuning in for, unlike the rest of the series so far.
my thoughts exactly
saw them with 65dos and youthmovies last month in newcastle. wasn't all that impressed really. not bad, but nothing special. my initial impression was "these guy like foals a lot".
or
Newcastle or Sunderland.
Hartlepool is a close enough I suppose, but with no car at University it's going to be difficult to get there and back.
Booooooooooo :(
Agreed
I saw her live the other week with Caribou. She was very good so I bought the album, it left me feeling a little robbed though. A very 'nice' record, but that's just it. It makes you feel like you like it because you should, rather then like it because you do. She's pretty though and that's what really matters. It doesn't really do much more than immitate but it's not bad to stick on in the background when writing an essay or just wanting an lovely cup of tea and a sit down.
Excellent :D
The same weekend as Latitude however. Decision time... :s

Good work Will
Clearly there must be some sort of journalistic drug in the Rutland air, haha.
Seriously though, nice read. It's even made me want to buy it!
