Listening to Spine of God today

Great album. Hope he gets well soon.

You may jest

But I bet this gets more entries than the last two comps combined.

That's a sick bill

Just loaded with good stuff. Kutmasta Kurt... Nice.

Russell Brand

is someone I have a completely irrational hatred for.

I'm not alone in this, I'm sure.

idioteque

secret dancefloor dynamite.
Especially if you want to see 'The Spastic Preacher' performed in its natural environment.

I don't own a copy of Dirt

Going to have to sort that one out.
The riff to the title track, absolute classic.

A word on the Marion reformation

Yesssssssssssssssssssss!

Beard!!!!

Have to say

I love the cover.

Can we get her and Zane Lowe tied back to back in chairs please?

It seems a shame to waste a bullet.

That's the last 45 you'll ever hear...

Time for a decent Marc Bolan biopic, I think.

I wouldn't call you scum

Everyone has different reasons for doing things, and if you can justify it to yourself, what anyone else says doesn't really mean shit.

If Pink Floyd reform, I'll be doing the same.

My worst gig... J Mascis and the Fog

was really great until Bobby Gillespie smacked my brother around the head with a mike stand.

Five stitches, four hours in casualty. Tons of fun for me, but worse for him.

No offence to the Monkeys

But the only way they'll beat the touts and demand for those tickets is by playing a lot more shows and selling the majority at the venue on the day of the event, with names put on the tickets to stop transfer.

Card restrictions don't work very well. the Glastonbury festival uses the same system, and it doesn't seem to do much to stop touts.

Spoon and the New Pornographers?

That'll fucking do!!!

Weren't this lot

working with Bowie on something?

Ah, a Neighbours joke, eh?

Very clever. Very... modern.

'Kin Hell

That record should have come out two years ago! I thought it'd just got forgotten about.

That's deeply unfortunate...

I'll buy a pair of tickets for it though. God knows what the baby boomers will pay for those little babies...

I think...

The Cure will do Reading this year.
If they don't do any Curiosa style gigs, it should tie in nicely.

"All the way from Chocolate City..."

I'm going to have to dig out 'Live at Cold Rice' now.

Great, great record.

Bet you a fiver

That G'n'R album sounds like it should have been released six years ago, that the high notes are only hit by autotuning the shit out of Axl's now utterly fucked vocal chords.

I'll put an acca on the tour being a Spinal Tap in the 21st century disaster, too.

This band

have just won the highly coveted 'best band name' title. And their records are alright as well.

I'm a sucker for this song

The man... He got me!

Well...

1. Spoon - Gimme Fiction
2. Bright Eyes - Digital Ash
3. The Constantines - Tournament of hearts

Still don't see how Art Brut can fit in the top ten (it made the Pitchfork one too). Top live band with a couple of great tunes, but there's a lot of filler on there.

That's some good news

I thought they'd ceased to be.

Playing Margate, too. Might go down to that.

This single

is superb. Great chiming guitars, lyrics with a predictable tang of sado-masochism. I think you can download it from their website, too.

Found

I have a near-mint 1975 Gary Glitter annual.

Best page is page four 'Gary talks to the fans'. He's surrounded by kids. It's so wrong.

This is an interesting turn of events

Just now I was thinking 'Wouldn't it be good if Myspace did comps?'

They're always just one step ahead.
Those bastards.

You're not alone

in thinking they've gone off the boil.

Sonic Nurse may be my least favourite album of all time, especially when you remember what they're capable of.
It's a shocking effort, and no mistake.

It hurts to say it, but sometimes Great bands really can go Bad. I'll cross fingers that the next one is good, but I really don't hold out much hope.

Neon Blonde - Chandeliers In The Savannah

Love the fact that the record label is named after a Tien Hsueh (sp) move that kills you very slowly.

Might buy the record just for that.

Blondie get the Blues

Cracking little strike though, wasn't it?

Re: Bloc Party - Two More Years

It's not. It's right on.

Re: Bloc Party - Two More Years

Glad I'm not alone in noticing the huge debt they owe to Les Savy Fav.

Do like this single though, despite the bent fade out.

Twunts of London tour: big f*cking deal

Drowned in sound, if you hate this band so much, why give them any space?

Why waste articles and reviews, bandwidth, even pixels, on them?

Can't be a slow news day every time they do something, can it?

Peel compilation: full track listing

Only a portion of the profits? Not all the profits?

Re: Booze banned at Live 8

Ah. There's nothing I like better than a good bit of smiting.

Re: Fightstar"It's my job to keep IndieRock elite"

Hmm. Inadvertently agreeing, that.

Re: Fightstar"It's my job to keep IndieRock elite"

You know what the difference is between Fightstar and 200 indie rock bands who plod around the gig circuit for years?

Charlie. If it wasn't for him, they wouldn't be signed. Their musicianship is good, the singles are ok. But the one factor that elevated them above the rest of their ilk is a boyband member. It's the major factor for their early sales. Its why they'll get such a big push while other (better?) bands languish lower down the promotional pecking order. They are initially at a big advantage.

The disadvantage comes when the album gets finished. If it isn't superb, the people who are suggesting that we open our cold, hard indie rock hearts to find the last fucking vestige of warmth for a band that are no better than hundreds of others will be the first to throw stones. An average record won't do. It will have to be very good to maintain any interest, and exceptional to win any new fans and appease us snobs.

So until they deliver the album, we may as well be debating the length of a piece of string.

Nice article, though.

Re: Smooth Criminal? MJ Found NOT Guilty

He wasn't thinking ahead on the title with that one. Or 'Dangerous'. Thankfully 'I touch kiddies after plying them with Jesus juice' didn't make the cut on the last album. That might have sunk his battleship.

Re: Wish You Were Here? Pink Floyd reform for Live

Wouldn't that mean 'Pink Floyd is shite' though?
After all these years of saying 'Pink Floyd are shite', I'm not sure if I can change...

Re: - Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith

Best bits- Yoda hopping onto Chewies shoulder for a piggy back, and later caning some Imperial guards. Superb.
Some of the other special effects were... impressive.

Worst bit - The rest of the film. Pretty shit, all in. Could have been half an hour shorter too. I could feel all the muscles in my arse by the end.

Also Lucas should take the blame for the screeching 5 year olds at the screening, and the speakers on the left hand side of the auditorium crapping out at the end.

Re: Pete Yorn ropes in Dave Grohl for new LP

Definition of the 'difficult second album', that one.
Still, a handful of decent tunes. Not a total washout.

Re: The*International*Karate* Plus play gigs

I dunno, it wasn't as good as Way of the Exploding Fist.

Re: Wireless tickets go multi-day

> There are 21 bands playing the stage over 3 days and to be honest, it won't all be a line-up we've hand picked (or even had much involvement in picking) and there are the likes of Black Velvets whom we'd really much rather weren't playing our stage. But these things happen.

They do. Maybe you'll get a better crack of the whip next year. Any idea what the odds are of there being a next year?

Re: Wireless tickets go multi-day

S'funny how there have been a couple of stories about the festival on the site, and yet no mentions of the DiS stage outside of the boards though, innit?

Thought you'd be a bit prouder to have your own stage at a big festival, like with the TMF one.

Re: Spoon - I Turn My Camera On

Didn't think there was anything pre Telephono either, but they've got something that I'd never heard of before listed on their site.

It's an ok choice for a single, but 'The beast and the dragon adored' would've been better.

By the way, did Britt do some solo stuff a long time ago under another name?

Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth

"Snarky" - What a great word.

Re: Cool indie band Linkin Park take on the man

That's a bit harsh on FFAF, monsieur.

Linkin Park really do suck on almost every conceivable level.
There's just no getting around that.
