Really

really great.

This Band

are consistently brilliant. I don't get the Bloc Party comparisons, or even the Afrobeat reference. And the lyrics are often the best bit. But then 7/10 is no mean score anyway.

Dexys!

Amazing

...

it's "criminal"

That's the one

Has this worked ok for everyone? If you type warmhandscoldheart into the Selecter you'll also get the Favours xmas song (a bit unseasonal now, but still a sweet song!).

Just to say...

Thanks for the review, Dom. It's nice that people are talking about this record. One thing i would add is that it comes as a 12" and CD set on gatefold. I reckon that bumps it up to 11/10, but Dom didn't know that :)

You can order it from us here: www.toughloverecords.com/product.htm and get a free download of the record while you wait for it to arrive (and we still haven't got our copies yet - GZ Media in Czech Republic are taking their sweet time about it - here next week though)

Great review

Second para - spot on! Songs are all about moments, and then finding new ones when you're over familiar with the ones you had loved a bit too hard

Erm...

More Than A Feeling? And they consider themselves an authority.

Voting

How many people voted?

The Quietus

The Quietus is very good. I'd like to see that continue.

And i don't think the BSkyB undermined DiS' credibility either, as the site didn't change and it continued to champion the same music it always has. The connection did appear a little unseemly, but everyone has to eat...Hopefully no one lost their job as a result of the change and the site is still in good health.

Yeah

Well 7 of them. They're just so driving and compelling. There's a strong intuitive relationship between them as musicians which i guess comes from the fact they worked together in Distophia. Absolutely phenomenal live too.

Calories

Are amazing. They've basically recorded an albums worth of material and it's all amazing. Brilliant live too. Not sure why more people aren't getting really excited about these, especially given the love for Distophia and JF on here.

Rockfeedback

How come Rockfeedback's name isn't connected with this? They're sponsoring the tour.

Great band though.

Bowlie?

Did Mogwai and Godspeed play Bowlie? I'm sure they played the first ATP the year after. Well i know they did, as i was there. It was amazing.

Spelt

More bands should do this, especially as they included other bands they played with (Mirror! Mirror! ) and our birthday party. Bravo.

Still gutted i didnt buy tickts in advance for last night. = stupid

and then hopefully buy it.

so they can make another one...

So, if anyone is interested in buying it, go here:

<3

8/9 for sure...sometimes i think they go all the way up to 11...

I feel a joint tour coming on...

Nevermind

At least Wild Beasts and Jo' Fo' are good. Great in fact. Your album and theirs are my favourites of the year ( alongside War on Drugs and Wave Pictures). And you are officially 3 better than Ashlee Simpson, which is a pretty good thing to be.

Of course...

Well, who cares. theyre still a great band, no matter what anyone says otherwise, informed or not.

I do find it depressing that someone would take a lot of time to point out why a songtitle is shit, instead of finding out what said band sound like. Them the breaks, i suppose

?

And derivative of what exactly? I can't think of one band they sound like.

The Johnny Foreigner comparison is lazy too. Plus they pre-date them...

But

it's not actually about Shoreditch:

Jealous Have No Money?

What's the situation? I'd put out the record in a heartbeat. I have the money, i have a label...

Take It Or Leave It?

Are you sure that's the right song, or maybe they played two Strokes songs....

Coventry date

Not on. The place isnt even open. With a bit of opportunism, tried moving it to a new venue but their booking agent didnt get back to us. Good one! Now they have no show and have lost money -CLAPS SLOWLY

Think About It

How many of these people are on major labels? It's a marketing exercise that is trying to sell records in a different way. Guaranteed that who ever is on that list has either been hyped to death by NME already or will be in the next 6 months (Joe Lean, Does It Offend You, Yeah? etc etc).

Payolla. Nothing more. Nothing less.

But but but...

"this is a girl that lives from pay cheque to pay cheque"....Not really a cogent argument when you acknowledge that not that many musicians even get a pay cheque, and certainly not one that fairly corresponds with their input into the music.

Big record companies are shit, but so is the idea that you can take something you love for free while the people that create it struggle by...

Yup

That's cos theyre brilliant. As is Wolfgang Bopp. Perfect way to bow out.

Aperture

Best song ever!

on and also

If you'd like to buy the single, you can get it direct from Tough Love here:

www.toughloverecords.com

It's better if you buy it straight from us, cos it means we wont go bankrupt!

Coventry date

Will be at the newly refurbished Colosseum, to be renamed the Kasbah. It's the opening night too, so should be quite an event.

...

Stupid and shit. What a winning combination. No wonder Warners snapped them up.

Do you live in Coventry?

That's a pretty myopic viewpoint. Coventry has plenty of great things going on (Final Fantasy this coming Tuesday anyone?). It's a shame the Enemy aren't one of them.

Also, even though it doesn't matter, i think theyre mistaking their working class roots for being stupid.

^^^^^^

Exactly. The Secret Machines is a redunant comparison. It's not as if they didn't steal that idea from about thrity years ago anyway. PLus, how are the Secret Machines anywhere near as good as LCD.

James Murphy is the mouthpiece of a generation. Not my generation, he's a bit too old, but if age the same way, ill be muchly pleased.

?

What an awfully wrong review.

Too True

When can we expect an album? I'm hoping someone gives them the money to release one. They deserve it. We deserve it.

Great EP

I absolutely love this band. I've yet to hear them write a bad song. Strange that the review thought the last two tracks weren't up to the first two. I think Pop Song is one of their best.

Anyone else got this yet?

Coventry Gig

Is with Souvaris no less! That's at least two reasons to go now! Can't wait!

EP for £2!

I'll be having a word with them about that! If we sell all of them at that price it might just be the last thing we ever release.

Glad you enjoyed the gig and thanks for posting on here to let others know.

All this and so cheap...

It's only £4 from our website:

www.toughloverecords.com

You can order it from any shop now, but it'll probably be a bit more expensive.

Thanks

Singles

We're a singles label (Tough Love Records). As a label, it's really not cost effective to release singles, plus as we release them on vinyl, a lot of younger fans feel left out as they don't have turntables. We ried to combat this by giving away free downloads with each record. It's been pretty successful so far. We'd fell pretty bad making someone pay for both a record and a download.

Yes yes...

Yes! It's great that other people see it this way too! Absolutely killer single. They're all about 10 years younger than they should be too. Genius.

Go here if you want to hear if: www.myspace.com/toughloveonmyspace

or here if you want to buy:

Thanks.

PS. Great review.

Playing Coventry Tonight...

...at new venue Taylor John's House.

The Sequins are supporting tonight. Going to be ace. I'm especially excited after reading this review!

Chris Leo and The Lapses?

Is it the Lapses of The Lapse? If it's the Lapse, they were amazing!

Shit hole

Although it's rooted in the history of punk and played an integral part in its development etc etc, there's no getting away from the fact that it is a disgusting shit hole. The people that work there now are penarses too.

Wow!

What a great review. Thank you Rachel C for the very kind words. If anyone is interested, you can listen to a Sequins song here: www.toughloverecords.com
