Shame

Not really liking the Bangles song either! But thanks for putting it up, anyway.

What he said ^^^^

Not convinced about the Bloc Party cover though.

The album is hard work

But I'm finding I like it a little bit more each listen. The singles are awesome, I agree!

Shame

I think they're great and I'd go to one of the farewell gigs but the nearest one is London. At least, I think that's the nearest one - I'm about to find out where Farndale is...

Damn

After reading this, I'm even more disappointed about leaving it too late to buy tickets for the Portsmouth show!

Also looking forward to this

There are samples of all the tracks on the band's website and it's sounding good!

Aargh!

No show in Southampton or Portsmouth!

Execution album

One of my favourites. I hope the new one is a bit less like More Adventurous (too polished) and more like Execution.

Not quite sure of the lyrics, but it is something about bears I think.

Try here

This is the website for the band's old record label. Click on the Online Shop link and you should find the album (called The Bright Carvings) on sale for £7, plus postage and packing.

I hope they deliver to France!

Their first album

Is absolutely great! I think you would like it, Lyle.

Their new album is coming out soon and I'm looking forward to it very much.

Hooray!

Really looking forward to this. I've got her last three albums and I've liked each one more and more as she's progressed.

Also she looks spookily exactly like a friend of mine. It's a freakily close likeness.

I love Crowded House too

Together Alone is one of my favourite albums - melodic, atmospheric and interesting.

Private Universe is probably my fave song of theirs, just beautiful.

Oh yes

Also looking forward to this and hoping it's more like Execution than More Adventurous.

My six

Laura Veirs - Year of Meteors (2nd vote for her!)
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Patrick Wolf - Wind in the Wires
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Rilo Kiley - Execution of all Things
Idlewild - 100 Broken Windows (think it sneaks in the 6 years)

Good news!

Bit worried by the naysayers who've seen him live this year but I'm really looking forward to this. As it happens I was listening to Wind in the Wires when I noticed the news. I'll take that as a good omen!

More exclusive..

I can understand that, I suppose. And I guess it adds to the cost if you get vinyl and CDs pressed rather than just one or the other.

September?

I want the new album sooner. I cannot wait. Cracking review that has really cranked up my anticipation levels for their next album.

Ho hum

I was just thinking 'Ooh this sounds interesting' then 'But it's probably only available on vinyl'. Just like the new Dead! Dead! Dead! single.

Why???

I was excited and then...

I got to the bit that says the supplement will come out 4 times a year. So all it'll be useful for is interviews and features, rather than reviews, news etc. Shame as I love the Independent.

I am beyond saving

I've only heard this a couple of times (not sure how that's happened) but I absolutely love it. Oh dear, I'm such a fan of bedwetter indie...

Nowhere near me

Hey, Lyle recommended Marissa to me the other day and I would go and see her but sh's playing NOWHERE NEAR ME! Sniff.

Re: Keane to get mean

I can just imagine it, "Get with the times, young man! They're famous!"

For the record, I'm looking forward to their next album especially if it's not the same old, same old.

*Crosses fingers*

Re: Over-Killers: more corporate Brandon

Completely agree with Browno - grumble grumble. I quite like the Killers too but re-releasing 3 singles is just lame. I hope the band had nothing at all to do with it, but then why haven't they disowned it as a cynical record company move? Cowards.

Re: Mercury Music Prize Nominations Announced

So Juanman, you don't want any KT Tunstall on your mix CD, eh?

The Long Blondes - Appropriation (By Any Other Name)

I bought this a couple of weeks ago but only just got round to listening to it (whoops). On first listen I like it a lot. Joining in with the comparison game, I think they sound a bit like Blondie.

It's A Hit? Rilo Kiley hope so, and tour too

Boo! No gigs anywhere near South Coast Kevin! Hmm, should I go to London and see them there? Must find Rilo Kiley-liking friends.

Sons and Daughters

I saw them supporting Idlewild the other and I quite liked them as well. I liked the cross between the folky sound and the darker, squally guitar and vocals (a bit PJ Harvey-ish?).

Re: The Used join forces with PETA

Blimey, nonsense, you know your stuff! I am a proper veggie and also pro-vivisection (not cosmetics, and as long as using tissue cultures etc won't be enough). Some people think it very weird to be against eating meat and for experiments on animals. Ho-hum.

Alaskan Pipeline

Saw them with Dead Dead Dead and Delays earlier in the year, thought they had a couple of good tunes but they were all a bit one-paced. All mid-tempo, slightly plodding.

Re: Coldplay figure X=Y: Mr Paltrow & co. name alb

Eh? The Killers and Keane get loads of negative comments on here!

Except from me - hooray for Keane! They're brill!

Re: Idlewild - Warnings / Promises

Haven't heard the album yet but the review was surprisingly positive. I'm looking forward even more to buying it on Monday!

Re: Keane buddy up with U2 in Europe

Hmm, I would love to see Keane, the Killers, Snow Patrol and U2 all in one evening. I'm not such a huge fan of U2 but I love the other 3 bands.

Re: Lamacq goes five days a week on 6music

I've got a digital radio too and 6 Music is great. I love the mix of modern stuff and older songs they play, and they play session tracks from anywhere over the last 30 years or so.

I can't seem to get XFM on my digital radio but I listen to it online every now and then and I'm not impressed. It seems to be all Razorlight, Franz Ferdinand etc with very little from more obscure bands.

Re: Top 40 Malarky: The week where it all went jus

Yeah, it is a good song. I didn't buy it so I can't really moan but I'm surprised it didn't go top 40.

Also, I still haven't heard anything by this Willy Mason fellow. Very slack of me. Was thinking of going to his gig n Southampton but it had sold out by the time I got my backside in gear. Whoops.

Re: DiS supports Make Poverty History

Good work on the anti-poverty messages and adverts. I'm all for a few things which might wake us up to what's going on in the world.

Re: Athlete - Tourist

I can see it too. Everyone - stop saying you like Athlete otherwise you're going to start getting all kinds of abuse from the taste police. Someone will probably start a '3 things I'd like to do to Athlete' thread soon as well.

Re: Athlete - Tourist

Just what is it with the music taste pigeonholing and stereotyping? It's so lazy!

And maybe the accountants etc will buy Tourist, then check out Athlete's first album and broaden their music horizons a bit by checking out a few other bands.

Kaiser Chiefs sign up for 'Employment' April tour

Huh, what's with the south coast eh? No Southampton or Portsmouth.

South By South West shapes up

If only Texas wasn't thousands of miles away. Ho-hum. I'd love to see Aimee Mann live - anyone else heard of her? And why doesn't she have a profile on DiS?

Re: Idlewild January UK Dates

New track sounds good to my ears too! The Remote Part was the album that got me into Idlewild so I'll always think of it fondly.

I've now got the other 2 full albums (but not Captain yet) and I like them all a lot but I think Remote Part is my fave. I'm so soft...

REALLY looking forward to seeing them live!

The best 25 British songs of the last 25 years: ea

The sad thing is that loads of these artists have done better songs than the ones up for voting. I'd guess some of us secretly like the odd Elton John song but I bet it's not Sacrifice. Or am I the only one who thinks Crocodile Rock is a good tune?

Same with Queen - I really like Don't Stop Me Now and The Show Must Go On.

Re: The best 25 British songs of the last 25 years

Ha! I was just looking through the list feeling a bit sad but picked out Fields of Gold as one of 3 or 4 I might vote for!
