the place is massive isn't it?

the manics played the CIA not long ago, that's a pretty small arena... newport centre is probably more than half the size of that place.

either way, knowing newport it'll probably be full of cunts.

...

A) Super Furry Animals

...

don't like the album much, but if you're going to write a review like this at least make it funny...

i've got to admit

i'm impressed by this.

it's not like the $300 version is even a rip off if you're a fan

i'm not, but whatever.

like the radiohead album though, i think it's only possible if you've already got a large and somewhat obsessive fan base.

....

who's supporting for the tour then?
i'm going to the brighton one, i can't wait, 'return to the sea' has become one of my favourite albums in years.

possibly a stupid question

but has anyone at all on here heard this yet?

will be interesting to see if it's more in the kind of soul direction or back to the older style... i'm sure both will be good, but i'm curious.

!

that looks ace, I mostly want to see Anti-pop Consortium and Edam though and £30 does seem a little bit steep...

wow

I still don't give a shit about battles really, but De La Soul could be incredible.

really weird choice of single...

i like it because it's just a bit awkward and angry and stuff, and that's always fun, but it isn't really much of a song, and it's probably too long too.

...

pretty much nothing makes sense here does it?

that's sounds like

an unusually brilliant episode of jools holland

i agree

i still think it's ace, but i don't like this recording much at all.

I think newfield is pretty over rated as a producer really.

which stage is centre and which is pavillion?

I forgot.

I thought Pavillion was the massive one which was a bit rubbish last time because it was so bright and stuff...

but the idea of portishead playing in the smaller stage upstairs makes me think I'll be spending half the weekend in a queue.

I'm back in south wales

this weekend, but since i haven't seen my family for a couple of months i can't really bring myself to go to this.

i really wish i was, it looks like more or less the best thing to happen in cardiff in years.

i think...

that is about right

definitely just tennis on the NES, a pub near my old house used to have an arcade machine loaded with about 50 NES games, it was incredible, tennis was one of them- that's my point.

I wasn't there...

but whenever i listen to 'citrus' i'm always amazed at how little the guitarist actually seems to be doing at times, not that that's a bad thing, it's just that the big distorted bass seems to take the lead almost all the time, so maybe that's something to do with it.

i really wish i went though, i was going to go along and hope it wasn't sold out, but by the sound of it i made the right choice.

yeah, but...

when the message board/ community side of it crosses over with the 'news' section, it just seems a bit wrong.

to be fair, i didn't read much of the thread this article is referencing.

If I really cared...

I'd be quite pissed off by this, just another step DiS has taken from being quite an interesting music website towards being a cliquey message board full of in-jokes.

But it's just the internet, so whatever.

donations

no one was a 'paying member', donations were entirely voluntary and gained you no special benefits as far as i know. All these news articles like to make it sound like the guy running it was making a fortune out of it, when i doubt that the donation money was covering any more than the cost of hosting the site.

This is awful.

Even though I suppose I was using oink to download a lot of stuff I never bought, I also used it to download stuff that I went on to buy that I never would've even considered purchasing in the past.

I reckon that unless I find a replacement site the amount of new music I get to listen to will be seriously limited.

I wish I bothered to keep my indietorrents account now, I never really saw the point when you could get everything they had and more on oink.

Peel Stage to oust Glasto Dance Tent?

Some dance music is great, if by dance you mean any electronic type stuff, just because a lot of recent stuff is remixes of awful tv theme tunes or something, doesnt mean it is all bad.

- Asia Extreme mini film festival

not really worth getting the battle royale 2 dvd for though, is it?
The bits about the other films may be good, but that BR2 is just awful.

Pantera guitarist shot dead

I hated pantera, i didnt rate this guy all that highly as a guitarist, but that's still awful...

Stereophonics name new sticksman

ok, we get your point.
I'm sure anyone with any sense disagrees, but you've made your opinion pretty clear.

Sterophonics used to be my favourite band, when i was about 12.
The the first album is vaguely interesting still, but the rest is utter shite.

I've somehow managed to see them 3 times, one time because i wanted to see feeder support, the rest were just free tickets, I can honestly say that the others, especailly their last milenium stadium gig will be remembered as some of the most tedious, broing moments of my life.
Stuart Cable was the best thing about that band too.

And it doesnt help that Kelly Jones is a cunt.
(and I nearly got all the way through that without saying it too...) Who the fuck just fires a livelong friend from your band like that?

Raveonettes reveal old skool collaborators and tou

I think they are alright whip it on is really cool.
The second blatantly ripped off the jesus and mary chain on the good tracks, and the bad tracks were just awful.

But serioulsy, some of the songs even had some stolen lyrics from mary chain songs.

Jane's crew reveal new band

I never really saw the appeal of Jane's Addiction, so I cant imagine this being anything other than shit.

Re: Razorlight go super-size.

I see the white stripes and the yeah yeah yeahs (and maybe even the strokes) as the better, more credible bands of this pathetic nme hyped rock n roll genre, they seem to offer enough variation on an over used formula to make something interesting, or at least relatively entertaining. However, Rzorlight just seem to be jumping on their bandwagon with a watered down, more accessible style (not that I'm saying YYYs or the 'stripes aren't accessible).

Razorlight irritate me. The singles have been prety good, there's no denying that Golden Touch is a great pop song, but it's essentially the kind of stuff most of the type of people who come here would like when they are 14, as a stepping stone to better bands.. Though I suppose that cant be such a bad thing.

Busted: Clearly the record of the year. Obviously

though did ITV pick a selection of songs anyone could vote for, or was it just any single?

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead

Oh god, i would've given my right arm to see them.. I hate living near neither Glasgow nor London.

Idlewild album and single news - Oh Yes!

I wouldnt really mind another album like the remote part, it wasnt that bad, the production let it down though.
But I'd prefer something more noisy.

The Dears announce UK tour

I cant wait.. cardiff and maybe bristol for me.

Moby checks in Hotel for 2005

Yeah, I'm very undecided about him too.

Dylan tops all-time poll

But Like A Rolling Stone isnt even Dylan's best song

Killers to headline NME tour

I like the other three bands, so at least I wont have to sit through the killers, and then I can get a nice early train home.

...Trail o'Dead: LP Delayed + Neil Leaves

Worlds apart seems to be on soulseek now, if anyone is interested.

Re: Theres A Party Over Here: Terrorvision Are Bac

I dont particularly like this band, but I think pretty much anything is better than RHCP, to be honest.

Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict A Riot

Ah, someone else finally mentioned the South African football thing..

Great song too.

Not Weller

The Jam were alright, i suppose, everything he's done since that has been shit.

Chemicals to drop more beats in January

I dont think they are anywhere near as important these days, but I agree that the new tracks on the best of were up there with their best.

Re: Biffy Clyro - "We could be the future of rock"

Maybe if I could make sense of that, I'd be able to see your point, but I cant.

Biffy are one of the best bands around today, and it finally looks like they might make it big.

Death From Above 1979 - Romantic Rights

Is this that song which has been played on mtv2 and stuff loads recently with a kind of hexagon effect on the band in parts?
Because I'm sure that said it was by just Death From Above.

Musical hero John Peel dies age 65

Theres nothing i can say which hasnt already, RIP John.
:(

Dream Theater - Live at Budokan

a bit of a waste of space to review Dream Theater when there isnt even a review of the new biffy clyro album..

Jimmy Eat World - Futures

I kind of like JEW, bleed american has some amazing songs on it, but I'm not so sure about this, even though i only know pain. It sounds like they need to grow up a bit really.
But I'll still get the album when I get paid.

Manic Street Preachers - Lifeblood

I love the holy bible, and I'd never expect them to make anything as great as that, but from what I've heard this sounds great.

Re: UK singles sales reach an all-time low

you can actually get that ringtone, from kerrang, they said something about it at the 'size gig i went to at about the time catalyst came out.

Coxon to return to Blur?

his solo stuff is miles better than blur's last album anyway.

The Ordinary Boys

well, whatever way you look at it The Ordinary Boys are just shit.

That's a bit close minded, I know, but really they just are.

- Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind - DVD

My favourite film of the year too. I thought I'd hate it, with Jim Carey being it and everything, but its just brilliant.
