I thought I typed in drownedinsound not pitchfork
yeah
serious dampener
has it always loaded a new page for each photo?
or am I imagining that it used not to?
my dog
did not appreciate Lightning Bolt
it still strikes me as quite brilliant
that Mountains went top 5. I know it's far from Biffy's best but that's quite a remarkable result, all things considered. That Golden Rule went to no.10 as well and got A-listed, and that's since the sweeping pop domination of the charts, so it's seems like the band are now firmly lodged amongst the most popular British rock bands. A fair result to their hard graft and gradual ascent, so if they want to capitalise on their success then fuck it, why can't they? It's hardly like they've shifted into becoming The Feeling, it's just that all the arena/stadium supports and mainstream exposure has rubbed off on them, resulting in more pop sensibilities. Is it that horrendous to consider?
All The King's Men should, in a just world, propel WB into the mainstream
it's quite exceptional
you idiot
it was a positive review, first off.
secondly, is it not conceivable that if two reviewers (across the Atlantic) pick up on similar strains of music it might not be plagiarism but instead something which the music strongly conveys?
it was too much for me to shell out
but all my friends - some of them semi-sceptical about Coldplay's ability to follow Jay-Z - that went came back awestruck. It was apparently an amazing night.
Ah well.
A) Kyuss
hell yes
I am assuming now
that some of these bands may crop up at NBC, which would be fantastic.
POBP@H & Chapterhouse plz
I love 'em to death
but they're not really even band of the year (Animal Collective).
I think 7 is the perfect score for this album
but I do like Dangerous Animals quite a bit
I came on here specifically because I was just shaken by the bass on Fantasy
this record is brilliant
This was a strong festival
Though on the surface the line-up catered to my tastes less than last year - at least on merit of the headliners - I found many, many great acts and out of the 21 I caught I had only previously seen Datarock (surprisingly fun) and Wild Beasts (just disgracefully good)
Other highlights would include: Magazine, Thom Yorke, Nick Cave, Fever Ray, PABH, Temper Trap, Schlomo and Mew.
NIN [London]
1/ Get a cool logo
2/ Make sweet badges - not just the band logo, but with cool stuff. I liked the Maxïmo Park ones in '05 of flailing figures and one of a cat for We Are Scientists
3/ Release 'ironic' covers of well-known songs - think Whitney Houston
4/ Mix it up a bit live, possibly alter the song structure or tempo to keep people on their toes
5/ Do what feels right - if you enjoy wearing cardigans and Topman tees then go for it, but don't try and be what you're not whatever the circumstances
Is this in order?
I'd also say Sea Within A Sea is comfortably the best song on Primary Colours, with Scarlet Fields and the title track getting silver and bronze.
I think it was TITP '99
when a lot of those two got aired and people got pissy.
Few things
1) Maxïmo Park did indeed peak too early. It's fine though cos the debut (top 10 of the decade IMO) still gets all the singles aired plus Limassol if you're lucky, and the new material gains a lot of weight live.
2) Klaxons special guest Park Stage on Saturday, confirmed by one of them according to ver internetz
3) Yeah Yeah Yeahs placement is curious, isn't it? The fact that Glasvegas are 2nd-from-headlining the Other Stage (capacity: what, 40? 50? 60,000?) and yeah YYYs are FIFTH from top is laughable. Maybe it's a typo and they're due to swap? Seems more logical.
No Reading
noooooooooooo
I'll overlook the borderline pretentious title
and I can only hope Bellamy doesn't delve into more conspiratorial nonsense lyrically. BH&R made me chuckle in places when I re-listened to it for the first time in two years the other week.
However, I still can't fault Muse. For all their bombast and silliness in places, they are fucking tremendous both live and on record. I still remember listening to BH&R stream on MTV's website back when I was 14: I was sitting in my school's computer room after school one night (catching up on coursework I believe) with my best friend, and we listened to it start to finish, so loud it was rattling the corridor next to us, and our jaws were on the floor. We saw them at Reading that summer, and at Wembley the following summer to celebrate the end of GCSEs. Magic days. Plus I still rate New Born as my favourite song of the 00s.
They've yet to let up in my opinion, I'll be gutted if they do. As it stands, despite their record sales not quite totaling that of other truly massive bands, they're going down in the history books and I do sincerely hope this isn't the ink blot on their certificate of fucking awesomeness.
When I first heard it
I was bowled over, immediately struck me as one of the best of the year. An 8, possibly 9.
I devoted too much time to it in that first week and its saccharine electronic blips and childish abandon have started to grate somewhat. A 7 seems fair, all round. It's still very good, but the closing point about longevity is an apt one.
I'd give it a 7
It opens up on the 4th or 5th listen, I really enjoy the opening four songs, Let's Get Clinical, Questing and I Haven't Seen Her In Ages. However, I agree that they are coasting, and that the record drifts fairly inconspicuously, packing little discernible punch.
However, I rate A Certain Trigger as one of the best albums of the decade - one which captured my 13-year-old self and has yet to loosen its grip, a 9.5/10 for sure - and I enjoyed Our Earthly Pleasures a fair bit too so I'll take it.
Morningrise is one of the most beautiful songs I've heard in ages
Earlier this year I blasted it full volume out of my dorm at 8am, without fail, to get myself ready for chapel and lessons. It's bliss.
I very much
like the sea analogy.
Sorry boys
Got you all beat:

The collective team effort is absolutely flabbergasting, and the outstanding final strike is the icing on the cake.
1. Glastonbury headliners are Blur, Radiohead and Stevie Wonder
2. Weezer tour the UK, play 'Blue' in its entirety
3. More MBV shows.
^
true dat
Chaka Khan & Rufus
were awesome back in the day.
Oooooh
I like how the comment box emerged.
However, you seem to have followed Facebook 2.0's lead. It's a tad confusing.
Also, yes, photos aren't working.
Really, two years for 4.0?
Jeeeeeeeeesus.
'Alot'
It's a wicked cool word now.
Bands you missed that were strong on Sunday:
Wild Beasts, Holy Fuck and most notably Metallica.

But missing a chance to review what must have been one of Interpol's crowning live moments since their inception is a slight oversight I would say.
