Tremendous, sadly underappreciated band

So glad that these EPs have now been reissued.

^ This

It's got to be one of the best records of the year, surely. I adore it.

I agree

Absolutely nothing wrong with 'Ancient Melodies of the Future'.

Aha

You might like him, but that does not him a non-cock make.

I quite like some Les Savy Fav

But Harrington is a cock.

That made me laugh

Me me me! Let me be second. Now if I can just find someone to have the honour of being the first one to reconnect their heads to their bodies...

What?!?

Why the fuck did none of you see Do Make Say Think? In my opinion they were head and shoulders the best band at the whole festival and NONE of you has commented on them.

You are right

'You, You're a History in Rust' is a great record. I think it's maybe a slight step back from the more experimental bent DMST showed on 'Winter Hymn...' but that's no bad thing, necessarily.

But, let's face it: the best record ever in this sort of instrumental rock genre ("post rock" is a misnomer) is still 'The Burden of Hope' by Grails.

Well

So then: the final nail in the coffin of my interest in DiS...

Why 'Relationship of Command' inspires such admiration is beyond me. I used to think it was OK, but have come to realise what utter wank it actually is. It drags painfully, becoming almost unlistenably boring about half way through.

And Bloc Party. Oh dear.

As Parsefone says, no Wilco and no Sufjan Stevens.

*shakes head in pity*

Goodbye, once great website.

Battles fucking rule

Repetition and rhythmic rigidity is the point of their music. People don't bag dance music for being repetitive. Battles are just dance music for the avant-garde-post-jazz-rock set.

Re: Antony & The Johnsons take Mercury prize

"The current highly healthy state of the GB music scene"?

Dear Lord...

GLC: Your missus has a viral infection... or somet

Will these tedious Welsh pricks please just fuck off?

Autolux - Future Perfect

*Yawn*

Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise

I'm gently tenting in anticipation of listening to this record.

Re: Oasis - Don't Believe The Truth

Not when they're so well-spelt and punctuated.

Jackie-O Motherfucker - Fig. 5

'Wow! / The Magick Fire Music' is grrrrreat too.

ATP December details: The Mars Volta bring the Nig

Battles are the best live band currently in the line up. There's no way I'm not going, though. I almost shat myself when I saw it announced.

Re: At The Drive-In - This Station Is Non-Operatio

And don't even get me started on Invalid Litter Dept.:

Intraveneously polite/It was the walkie-talkies that had knocked the pins down/These shoes gripped on the ballroom floor/In the silhouette of dying

Re: At The Drive-In - This Station Is Non-Operatio

And their lyrics - The_Glory's got a point, peeps:

This is the accent of the half-hearted land/Does it all make sense now?/And if the ship was built in bottled sand/Does it all make sense now?/The anchor's kiss was scrawled in dyslexic crayon/Yes it all makes sense now

Oi, Bixler - shut it, you wittering muppet!

At The Drive-In - This Station Is Non-Operational

I wouldn't go as far as The_Glory, but the hero-worship of ATD-I on DiS is slightly baffling. They're made to sound like the most important band of their generation which is patently cack. I like them 'n' all, but they're not amazing or anything.

Pop fun. DiS Easter Alldayer announced...

Look, DiS peeps - do you want to actually hold these things on days when I can make them? I am responding to my calling over Easter...

Re: Further ATP additions: John Frusciante, Prefus

Fookin' Brainlove, innit?

The Arcade Fire - Funeral

*Yawn*

Re: Wilco: World Tour

Saw them last time around (late 2004) and Nels Cline is indeed a dude. Tweedy is cool as fuck, though. And he can sing really well live, too.

Re: Melvins and more added to Slint ATP bill

*stands over blue, stiffening corpse* I'll meet up wit ya Brainlove, sir! John? John? Should I call an ambulance?

Re: M83 - Before The Dawn Heals Us

"If they constantly made the same music and never pushed themselves...than what would they be?"

Oasis?

Low - The Great Destroyer

Low do heavy and it works. All the songs were tremendous live, too.

Re: Shipping News to release fourth album

Change the article, then, Mike. That always seems to happen on DiS.

Would you pay half a million to date Halliwell?

Great ending to the article: "Good luck to him."

Who will cut their hair now they're gone? - Unicor

2005 - already the year of great bands splitting after too few albums, and we're only 10 days in. Who's next? The Shins? Lightning Bolt? The Wrens?

Re: M83 - Before The Dawn Heals Us

You think? I reckon 'Dead Cities...' and 'Before the Dawn...' have a lot in common.

M83 - Before The Dawn Heals Us

'Tis all true. This record is great. Is it better than 'Dead Cities...'? Hmmm.....yes and no.

Re: Mars Volta fans: "What you're doing is f*cked"

Had to post that four times to make your point, eh? The Mars Volta are good. At The Drive-In were good.

(x4 if it'll help me get my case across)

Re: DiS FREE Marquee Xmas bash! This Monday

You're right about the bass playing. Shit hot. Didn't think much of the songs, though.

Re: DiS FREE Marquee Xmas bash! This Monday

No. They were bollocks. In a bad way.

Re: DiS FREE Marquee Xmas bash! This Monday

I still look the same except I'm clean shaven and skinny as a rake now.

Mars Volta to release one-track album

Any singles from the album?

Polly Jean's a mummy's and daddy's girl

My parents would veto everything:

"Chris - what is that racket?"
"Erm, it's my band 'Husk', mum. That song's a goer then is it?"

Re: Musical hero John Peel dies age 65

Why does not commenting on that make them ignorant?

Musical hero John Peel dies age 65

I can't really add anything to all these sentiments. The sheer volume of comments says it all.

Re: Neil Young - On The Beach

What the review (criminally) doesn't mention is Ambulance Blues, which in my opinion is the album's masterpiece.

Re: Neil Young - On The Beach

Star of Bethlehem isn't on 'On The Beach', that's why.

Re: Rap with a capital C: 50 Cent gets bottled off

This date is costing me more and more. You're not high maintenance are you?

Re: Rap with a capital C: 50 Cent gets bottled off

Definitely b)

What about the fans of 50 Cent? Are you telling me that if your favourite band was playing and you wanted to be right up at the front then you'd either have to put up with juvenile pricks lobbing bottles from behind you or leave? How about being given the opportunity to enjoy the show safely?

Re: Rap with a capital C: 50 Cent gets bottled off

Jostling was the wrong choice of word, wasn't it? Eeeuuww.....

Re: Rap with a capital C: 50 Cent gets bottled off

OK, but we're going somewhere where people throw their empty wine bottles at the waiting staff if they're unimpressed with the service.

Re: Mobos: not homophobic, but are they racist?

Rock 'n' roll comes from Elvis. There was no black influence whatsoever. It is an entirely caucasian style of music.

Re: Keane - Keane get real and tell Andrew Future

Errr.....and Keane are better than shit? Barely, methinks.

Re: Mobos: not homophobic, but are they racist?

How about the MOFO Awards for those Gallic motherfuckers across the Channel?
