My opinion of the Kooks notwithstanding (they're certainly not one of my preferred bands), this was a godawful article. There is not much difference between the first and second albums, really. Sure, one can be critical of a band not developing their sound and continuing to produce mediocre music, but it doesn't warrant a 1/10 score for an album extremely similar to one garnering 8/10. And therefore, there are two explanations: 1) the Kooks are now ubiquitous and (more) mainstream, so clearly the only cool indie thing to do is rail for their destuction (how mature), and 2) Kev Kharas is a git who cares more about winning the world competition for ridiculous metaphors than actually writing anything of substance.

ps. the section of this review in parentheses was insanely over-long, you can't have multiple sentences in there...made it very hard to read.
