Great song!
Most people have the sense to see it.
Ace band.
They should have an album.
Finally!
A DiS reviewer likes this band!
This is still relevant.
It doesn't matter when this was released, it's beside the point. It would have been great in 95, but it's still great now.
Wrong
This is great. The main difference between coldplay and this band is that this band have far more powerful songs, and have a truly exceptional singer. Sorry but they are one of the best bands around right now.
I love it too
And I think you gave it a fairer rating.
I really really like this!
He does sound a lot like Thom Yorke, but it probably isn't his fault he has a similiar voice. Anyway, the songs are great. There's variety, and I think it generally just works.
I like it
I still prefer Soviet Kitsch, but I think some of her best songs are on here. I don't like Hotel Song though.
For me
I think the best ones are We Start Fires, SYEAYBIF, iliketrains (no, I couldn't be bothered to do the caps lock or type out the other bands full name seeing as though most people have it anyway) and Napoleon IIIrd. I also love Napoleon IIIrd's remix of 18 by Forward, Russia- I think it's the first ever remix I prefer to the original.
MP3s
For anyone who's interested there's a great website called trashtreasury.com (I think) which has loads of Elliott Smith live MP3s. There's some amazing stuff from about '94, and it can be downloaded free. It's so good I think it should be officially released at some point, because although the performances are great there is a lot of background noise which could be cleared up. Then again it's nice to hear what the audience are saying about him.
I never used to like Jeff Buckley
and I had a horrible feeling that his death may have created a horrendous amount of hype. But when you get past the whole suicide thing the music is amazing without any myths to help it along. I love Jeff Buckley now, his album is really inventive and far reaching and I don't see any point is having a dig at him either.
The early stuff
Is so much better. But still a sore loss.
Being a singer and guitarist
I know what you're saying. I'm sure you don't actively seek to copy anyone- what I find is that subconciously you absorb your influences and you will have undertones of your favourite artists in your own work. It just happens, it isn't intentional. Alot of the time people say that I try to sound like a multitude of other people, but that's just the way I interpret influences.
Good review
I have to say that I absolutely worship Elliott Smith. But is it just me who finds it completely devastating that (in my opinion) his masterpiece and mini album 'Roman Candle' is always underrated when compared to all the other stuff he does which consistently makes best of lists.
I have to agree
the song doesn't do owt for me.
I admit
to liking this, but I agree that she just dresses like a horrible cross breed of pudding bowel hair cut and neon beatle.
I thought
It was an EP?
Funnily enough
although the review is good, I do find it quite uplifting.
You're right
It is quite similiar.
I love this album.
I really do think it is amazing.
Leeds?
I thought they were american.
Aww
Bless. Bad day? Don't worry, my grammar is also appalling.
Both
Crash in Leeds does it for a fiver, I think.
That
and over and over again are just classics.
Oh my god
you're right! I just listened and it absolutely does!
Yeah
I suppose 7 might have been a bit harsh, but after hearing Amnesiac first and loving it, I didn't really warm to Kid A all that much, it just felt a bit weaker in places.
Having said that though, I recently heard some of the tracks live and loved them. It's probably just one of those albums which are really hard to get into.
But treefingers- sorry, I'm still not convinced on that one. Although at first I hated the National Anthem, I love it now. But hell, all this will probably change in 6 months anyway.
Better than Vertigo
but still pretty soulless.
No
I would always go with Funeral. Personally.
Those two songs
are just amazing. I can't stop listening to them. Which pretty much shows that while my personal favourite may be the bends, they have done fantastic stuff since.
Na I think they put on a good show
even if they are.
This is still the best song of the album
well, in my opinion, at least.
You'd be right
about that. They are.
I have to admit
that review made me giggle.
Yeah
Yeah. Another good song. Not the best, but not the worst either.
haunted
does my head in. Some of the new fella is ace, some not so. Haunted is not so. :)
Just one thing though
whilst I'm not a huge fan, Napoleon IIIrd isn't actually a band. It's one man.
But I don't see why everyone's getting so worked up over this, it's not such a bad review (I should know, mine are pretty appalling). The grammar isn't all that bad, I think everyone's getting a bit worked up over nothing.
And to be fair I agree with the overall idea- the album has its highs and lows, but I don't think Napoleon IIIrd is such a low one.
He does
use tape loops, but that's about it to be honest.
Na
they're great. Especially live.
oooh
not so keen on 4, but 13 is top... and well, Mystery jets, what can I say?
wonderful
live... I know everyone has already said it but still...
good on cd too though
Aww bless
it's kind of as a treat for my mum too (she's also a bit of a fan)
fink
or think? :P
I think
that he has a very interesting voice. Essentially he has no control over it or over his air flow, which is why it cracks, but it cracks so often that it takes on a quality all of it's own. Personally I like it.
The album- seven. When the tracks are great, they are really great... but they need time to develop.
Mmm
the little transgressive singles are sweet...
Those two
are my favourites too... :P
I hope she is!!!
It just seems a bit wierd that some of the stuff is not as likely to hook people in as the stuff she's left off...
shame really
but i'll get over it, I suppose....
Good review
and great live album, but I've heard some of the songs- notably Idioteque- done better on bootlegs. But True Love Waits is a gem.
One Krafwerk fan
with a room full of Beatles records.

Love these
But the sound is a bit muddy. That said they probably don't have a massive budget. Even so for me it's not such a big deal because the songs are ace. b
