I don't understand
I managed to get tickets for the first Manchester date from Ticketmaster at 6pm.
The Smashing Pumpkins
Already did it...
Makes him look like a complete tool
For criticising Corgan for doing the exact same thing though, doesn't it?
This song is many things
But shit is not one of them.
The one on the right has really dark skin now
Which is confusing.
Still, best album EVAR.
Despite my pumpkins bias
I don't think the review focuses enough on the merit of the record objectively. Seven Shades is one of the best songs they've done, and if it sounds like it's off the same production line as Jellybelly, it's because it's of the same caliber. I'll agree that this album is, in the most part, a misdirection. It's like Pumpkins meets Van Halen. However, the only real tragedies are the TFE style ballads, which are admittedly terrible. I think the album is easily worth more than half marks, but if you're going to lump it next to the best albums ever recorded (SD & MC:IS, imo), then it's going to be hard to take stock of it on it's own merits.
I really like this song
It stands up to repeated listening and it´s a hell of a lot better than the vast majority of sub indie wankery and elitist poseurs. 7 Shades of Black shouldve been the single though.
They're Corgan wannabes
Not manson wannabes.
Sheesh.
If anyone knows of anyone
With a spare ticket or two, can they please help me out? :(

This
I think
In terms of the Manics, this album is pretty much mediocre. It's nowhere near as good as the holy bible, but then again i've heard worse from them.
However, this mediocre is a completely different to being mediocre like, for example, the View. I think the album is worth about a 6, a 4 to me suggests that it's flaws make it not worth a listen, which is something I'd disagree with, as though the album has a few dismal efforts, there are also some cracking tunes. Not brilliant, but I doubt they're capable of brilliance anymore.
I don't think anyone can cover them
And do it enough justice. Corgan is a bit marmite but you can't argue that he's not got his own niche.
It's a bit disheartening
That Corgan is letting bands cover tracks that he'd probably be slagging off ten years ago.
If the Pumpkins go emo, I'm going postal.
Maximo Park
Maximo are fronted by a former art teacher. Their stuff is mostly about girls and failing relationships. Their songs seem a lot more earnest, with far less forced bombast. They're a world away from AM, both musically and lyrically.
You can't compare the two as easily as that.
Personally
I think Maximo are a better band, I enjoy their music more. Arctic Monkeys, for me, came about 3 years too late.
It's not a question of what's cool, it's what you like.
I don't really like this band
A lot of their stuff is samey and I'm past the point of caring about what it's like to be working class and british in the 00's. This album, imo, is near identical to the first one, and although I can appreciate that fans of the band will lap it up it seems to confirm, for me, that they're one trick ponies.
The pumpkins
Covers of Landslide and Dancing in the moonlight are both awesome imo.
Although Jeff Buckley and Hallelujah deserves a shout.
I have time for the Arctic Monkeys
'cos they're not in the mould of the Killers or Kasabian. They don't think they deserve the bigging up they get. They're not the best band in the world but they give it a go, and can write a decent pop tune. There's something good about this song but it'll be ruined by kids at sixth form preaching how 'heavy' and 'original' it is.
Dunno why
But now that you mention the Pixies, this song reminds me of Broken Face. I know it doesn't particularly sound like it but, ya'know.
Ofcourse not
They've never done a bad album. Even Machina was better than 90% of stuff these days. This is officially my most wanted thing ever.
The 'indier-than-thou' argument doesn't really hold water with this
The song is genuinely terrible, and not just because it's pop. It's insulting to the ears and stupid.
HATEHATEHATE
Common room music at it's very worst.
My mate's blues band
Makes twice that a gig, and he's only 16.
I know
Some absolute abortion that supported Turner in a pub in london. He really is stupid and rubbish.
Frank Turner however, is absolutely heroic.
Google Amdy Faye
And all shall be revealed.
I probably should've picked someone a bit more famous to compare with.
I'm not being funny, but
He's not exactly Amdy Faye either, is he?
It was indeed
It may just be me, looking at things from a comparative perspective, but to say Pete Doherty is good at playing guitar because he can strum along to a generic acoustic song is almost farcical.
He's to music what Peter Kay is to comedy. He's not the best at what he does by any stretch of the imagination, but because he sings about the bleeding obvious and being affably british everyone seems to love him.
The new snoop song
Is brilliant.
"Pete Doherty himself is an excellent musician, and front man."
That is an INCREDIBLY bold statement.
I think even Mr Doherty would admit he can't play guitar, or sing. All he can do is write decent lyrics sometimes.
I love seeing the pumpkins on DiS
It makes my heart leap with joy, or something. I can't wait for this album, even if it'll never be as good as Siamese Dream, Gish and Mellon Collie.
I wanna hear that version of debaser
I don't want all the silly girls at school going round singing it wrong though :(.
The OC is bad for that.
Butch Vig
Is a total and utter god.
It conveys a hell of a lot more emotion and mood
Than 90% of wanky normal vocally type bands. So there.
Mr Corgan
Is a big bald god, I'll have you know.
They're working with Queen's old producer
Perhaps that's what he's getting at.
Anyhow, I'd put money on the Pumpkins new album trouncing this.
Mainly because Brian May has chavvy-gran hair.
Second favourite band
So hurray! :)
I like Maximo
Seen them twice in the last year and got their live dvd. He's a nob but an ace showman.
I thought they were alright
After seeing them on that NME tour.
Put on a decent show imo.
Mayonaise
By Smashing Pumpkins.
I'd also like under the bridge, despite what I think about RHCP.
Exactly
Over the last year DiS has been my primary source for record reviewery, but this is just like, 3 paragraphs of something I can't quite understand.
It's a compilation, I know this much. But what of? Babyshambles favourite songs? Live recordings? The sound a bus makes from the back? I shouldn't really have to google these things.
Yeah, he did
Although it's probably more of an influence for the wussier stuff.
Rubbish review
I don't even know what this product is.
They're brill
Very, very fun band.
Drunkensingalongtastic.
I'd like pixies
But this is better than nothing
They'd play arenas
...
Or something.
Actually
They've got normal hair now.
So they're just like a screamo kooks thingy.
Their myspace says they're from hertfordshire, which makes it extremely strange that they chose to play pubs in consett.
They're from round here
Seen them some pub somewhere, that held about 10 people.
They were shit. I've got tickets to see them but only 'cos :( are on before. I'll be leaving and treating myself to a chinese after them.
They're utter tedium imo. Kooks with funny haircuts.

My favourite band ever
I've seen them twice within the last year, and it's affirmed everything I've ever felt about them. They're just one of those bands you either grew up with and love or don't get along with at all. Zeitgeist isn't fantastic and it isn't terrible. It's a hell of a lot better than most of the crap that's on radio one but when you're comparing something to the likes of MCIS and Siamese Dream, anything can seem shit. There's something fantastically romantic about the smashing pumpkins. They're not cool to like, they're not constantly on the radio and a hell of a lot of your friends have never heard of them, but as a person coming to terms with how they are and without the need for indie coolness, they genuinely are a band you can become emotionally invested in despite being well aware of the air of naffness and ego that follows them. They've managed to rear a second generation of teenagers, even after they've split, and I reckon they'll be one of those bands that future generations will look to when they hit that age when girls are dicks and they don't know their place in the world.
