Constellation and Kranky
two mighty fine labels. Was in Montreal recently and had to make the pilgrimage up to Mile End, where the label is based (I think it's around there anyway). The bassist from GY!BE now runs an arts venue called La Salla Rosa and Suono Di Papolo festival
Grails!
where's their mention? I digged their set immensly
The Real Tuesday Weld
at the Brady Centre were a highlight - great venue that I never knew about, great band in plush surroundings. Sometimes the best stuff was a bit off the beaten track.
Also Matthew Sawyer & The Ghosts at the Strongrooms, Errors at the Old Blue Last, and that 80s synth rock band at Favela Chic (I forget the name).
are you telling me...
...that you can't dig the incomparable beauty of 'No Jacket Required'?
no Daydream Nation?
anyway, what about the WORST album cover? How about 'Whatever People Say I am That's What I am'?
easily the worst act I've ever seen at ATP
my mate summed it up..."that was like watching Jools Holland"
have Comets on Fire split up?
I've just did an email interview with Ben Chasny and he wasn't using COF in the past tense when talking about them
will someone please tell me why...
...Tower Hamlets Council agreed to put the festival on if they were only going to complain that it was too loud? I was really enjoying Archie Bronson Outfit and was annoyed to be told (by the digruntled band) that it's apparently against the council rules to carry on with loud guitars, which is why they had to stop - otherwise they would have been fined. Isn't loud guitars generally what happens at rock festivals??!
I was there
and DM were fantastic. But I though Arboretum walked a fine line between great, shimmering freak-out rock n roll and 20-minute guitar solo tedium.
Bigbluesky...
...it's worth the money just to hear that cover of Within Without You. It's magnificent.
[well, OK, maybe it's not worth £21 just to hear it - which is how much Virgin Oxford Street are charging!)
the ticket price is named after the new album...
...which is called 3121. I mean, just how naff is that? I'm old enough to remember when he had a shop in Camden Town in the early 90's. It went bust, of course
he is a fool
how you people are still taking him seriously is beyond me.
he's recycled the same three chord progressions for God knows how long and has came up with half-arsed meaningless lyrics which people have misunderstood for profoundity. He even admitted himself in Select magazine once (yes, remember Select?) that his lyrics are meaningless. Then he pontificates on politics of which he knows virtually nothing about.
And Liam is NOT an amazing singer while we're at it - incredibly overrated, and he once compared himself to Lennon too
well, there's always Islington Academy...
but seriously, the Spitz is my favourite venue in London - nothing tops the place in the summer. Along with Smallfish Records on Old Street, this will be another casualty of the Notting Hill-isation of Shoreditch - greedy landlords and property developers. Piss of to Notting Hill, where you'll be welcomed with open arms. This is dreadful, dreadful news...
who were...
...Airhead?
paste the whole link above onto yr browser...
ahh Bobby, where did it all go wrong? Was it when you started doing stuff with Kate Moss? Was it calling an album 'Riot City Blues'?
How exciting
Offices and a restaurant. I mean, I'm absolutely thrilled, that's just what London needs more of, isn't it?
blimey
is there any band that's NOT on Domino these days? Rough Trade Records must be well pissed off, Domino have well and truly ran off with all the exciting acts
hmmm...
I seem to remember him saying the same thing about three years ago...

the Land of Kush track
is amazing. Gutted I missed them live in Montreal by one week when I was there!
