hmmm...

the production is so horrible on this record. the drums in folding chair are one of the worst things i've ever heard, from regina at least, and her delivery on the album version sounds completely bored. i don't suppose i was ever going to like the album version though, since i have an XFM session version minus the drums etc which i love to death, so probably biased there.

no doubt i sound like the regina-fan equivalent of a tory when i say this, but i do like the pop arrangements on some of her other songs (e.g. i love on the radio, apres-moi, i even love laughing with, although again the song sounds weird, like she's singing it in a cellar). here, though, they are poor. they just seem unimaginative and added just for the hell of it, whether they contribute anything to the song or not (they don't). that seems to be the case with a lot of the songs. i really don't -get- "machine" and "one more time with feeling". "the calculation" and "wallet" are just silly. there's just something lacking about the whole record - the lyrics aren't what they were in "back of a truck", the arrangements aren't what they were in "us", the emotion is nonexistent compared to "somedays" or "chemo limo".

that said, i love "human of the year" and "genius next door", i'm really happy that i actually have proper versions of those songs now. "dance anthem" is ok, but i never really liked that much anyway. no doubt i'll end up getting used to them because i love regina spektor too much -not- to eventually come round, but it is nowhere near her best. very disappointed.

great article

but i sort of agree with that mickmickmick bloke and am guilty of listening to albums on random and making playlists.

wow

Lol

Stupid fucks.
