the Glasvegas record is pretty good...

I'd also say:

MGMT
The Moths!
Band of Horses
Vampire Weekend
the Ting Tings

I disagree - you are obviously one of those people

- if they want to record an album, do videos, tour support, promote and market the album - £60grand is nothing. On average it will cost at least £20-£30k to record the album, at least £10k to pay for a months tour (if they're lucky) leaving them with around £20k to promote the album, a PR campaign will cost at least £10k, then there's radio pluggers etc. etc. and they haven't even done a video yet! The £60grand doesn't go in their pockets you know and it's recoupable too, so they would have to quit their jobs to make the album work, but would never be guaranteed any sort of return

ooohhh

poor little Arcade Fire - how many gigs have you been to? Every band at almost every gig, no matter what or who it is, gets stuff thrown at them. You're probably the sort of person that would laugh at bottles being thrown at 50Cent or those two 'pop' girls years ago at Reading, but when your idea of 'real' music gets the same treatment on a much smaller scale you will be appalled by it. I didn't say it was right or agreed with it, I just said that this sort of thing happens

why?

I am not condoning it - I am just stating fact

£60grand!?!?!

is nothing these days, as you rightly said; to 'work' the album properly they're not going to be able to have normal jobs anymore and unless they have some massive songs they are going to be back on the dole in about a year

Yeah..

people have been throwing shit at bands for years and always will - it's par for the course, if they can't handle it, then they should fuck off

Re: Okereke concerned by non-essential press questioning

Re: Be Your Own PET release EP#2 as competition hots up

Dont know what all the fuss is about - the first one was just bland

Comets On Fire - full dates

secret show at the Dirty Water Club Friday 21st Jan - onstage around 11:30pm - the Fades in support

www.dirtywaterclub.com

One Unique Signal - Lowry

This is a great single - sent to DiS and many other people when it first came out, but unfortunately was overlooked. Thanks for rediscovering it, order a copy from www.genepoolrecords.com now before it sells out - only a very limited number remain!!

Re: BPI's pirate purge

Yes of course, but like anything (ie. copying CD's, taping off the radio etc.) as long as it doesn't damage the whole music industry as much as it apparently is at the moment, they won't mind as much. Curbing is all they want.

BPI's pirate purge

I think it's a good idea, then people who don't mind giving away their music for free won't have a problem either and will be welcomed. The new pay-for-file is good, they should have done it ages ago - I mean it is fair to pay for your music and 50 - 99p for a track is really good. If you look around you can still get good music for free: www.genepoolrecords.com, http://listen.to/artbrut, the new Fades single on www.xfm.co.uk and of course here on Drownedinsound :>
