I would urge you to

seek some of their earlier albums like Hirohito or Great Sage Equal Of Heaven too, you might find them a bit more varied than recent offerings. A quality band if given the chance.

Yeah

Despite his problems, Rutmanis is a great bassist and I thought, a great fit for Melvins musically. There's stuff on HAT that you think is guitar but when you listen again is actually bass!

HAT

is probably one of the best things they've done in recent times along with POTRE! Some great bass work on it too.

I've always found Senile solid and with some pretty good songs when allowed to grow but some of the songs sound a little like retreads for the most part.

Nice review though.

I get the idea you didn't like it when they played messy?

although I'm sure they finished on a particularly noisy effects-laden rendition of Conjugate the Verbs, but doesn't that contradict what you said in your review a little? Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I'm just not quite sure what you're trying to say about them in the review.

I think we have different views of the gig. The majority of the set was made up of material off of Grass Geysers... which, I think, clocks in at just over 35 minutes on record plus they played a couple of choice cuts from their other albums. So, if anything, I personally would've liked them to have played longer than the hour or so that they were on.

I found the band to be reassuringly tight and thought it was great hearing whatever jarring guitar lines and odd sounds Schmersal conjured up. Sure at times he made it look easy but I can't begrudge him or the band for knowing their instruments. I suppose I'm a bit surprised to see the gig get a 5 rating, especially given that Ill Ease's slightly mundane but endearing set received an 8. I thought Enon rocked it from start to finish, did the business and left and if that's one paced then I'm all for it.

Maybe I'm just a sucker for a guy playing guitar with his mouth though.

I remember when I heard Pajo

was playing with Early Man. I was expecting them to be quite an interesting band. After hearing them though, I wanted to saw my ears off. I hope they sound better than them.

Cool bananas

I remember hearing about the band and being quite intrigued but have yet to listen to them. Didn't they put out an ep some time ago too?

I do!

Bauhaus were really good on their last dates over here. Whether the new album will match up to their former glories is another question though.

That night was awesome

Lee Dorrian dj-ing to kick the night off to boot!

I'd just seen Mudhoney the same night but somehow Autechre still had me dancing to by the end.

I meant the band Miami

You didn't mean the location did you? I ave no idea what the Miami music scene is like, heh heh.

Cool. Nice little showcase.

Any chance of Plus-Tech Squeeze Box or Miami being featured in future columns?

I think it's great

that each disc needs a rubber adapter because of the difference in vinyl/CD centre-hole size.

Miami...

the japanese electric violin/sampler duo? I concur, Battles covering them would be mighty fine. Or Will Smith.

One of the better tracks on the album, but in my opinion the singles from the album don't really match up to the previous EPs. The remixes are probably the most interesting things on the disc though.

Re-Ignition...

Was probably my fave vocal performance of the night.

As for Sonic Boom Six, I thought they were a bit lacking to be honest. The trombonist looked a bit bored to be there and by the last song I felt that they had started to sound like 'one of your mate's bands at a college talent contest'. A shame as I though they sounded pretty good on paper.

Dr. Know on the other hand was awesome to watch on guitar. He made it all seem so effortless. I'd have to agree that"I Against I", "Banned In DC" and "At the Movies" were standouts as well. What was HR throwing out to the crowd when they arrived onstage?

Blistering show by the Bad Brains.

Perhaps...

She could be directed to 'Windy Miller' by the splendid Dawn of the Replicants which does indeed include said Windy Miller in the lyrics?
