Funeral For A Friend headline post-wha'eva tour in November

meh, calling FFAF is like shooting stevie wonder on a noose.

Lyca Sleep - Closer In

CHOON!

'Inches of Air' is a classic. i dont really agree with yr point on their not being a song at the heart of it. It may be applicable to 'closer in' i guess, they kinda stretch it too far, but songs like 'forever' and sold me a ride' show amazing song-writing quality

Re: YMSS single release party: you really Ores to

mine too, mines the 22nd. shall be the 17th. i saw HOTS on my bday last year, not intresting but tangents are good.

McRap: burger chain offers bonuses to Mac-munching rappers

McChicken Burger with Salad Dressing
Hits you harder than the LA cops did Rodney King

wow, its true what they say, any fool can rap

Beverly Hills Frog: ringtone spawns single

Maybe Sweety The Chick vs. Michael Jackson's 'Beat It' should be next.
a kid on the bus home today had crazy frog as a ringtone. i stabbed him

YMSS single release party: you really Ores to go...

isnt the sheffield date on the 20th? thats what it says on the Mono website.
Oh and are YMSS playin at Boat Club in notts friday? saw it in nme but aint heard it mentioned

Wireless Festival - more names announced

yeh but that fat fuck tom can do more with a hair flick and a 'mick hucknall-esque' pose than supergrass can in two albums.

Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-relea

actually (i think) hunted by a freak is actually a good song, i know a lot of people wont agree but
i think that the verse chorus pattern works well.
still, i dont think its really emotional, jus the sequence of notes makes a nice melody.
maybe i went a bit overboard, jus defending YMSS and purveyors of intresting music thats right.

Re: UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release

hmm, while i respect the fact yr tryin to stir controversy i have to say, YMSS are nothing like cody era Mogwai.

ymss don't really on guitar pedals to keep you intrested.

ymss put emotion into their music

you can tell the difference between one ymss song and the next.

ymss dont call other bands to compensate for a lack of talent or inventiveness

i could go on...and i will

the songs dont sound like 3 random notes, repeated for five minutes until someone steps on a distortion pedal before fading out into the same notes but played in a different way.

at ymss gigs people dont just stand there scratching their beard, some people actually move.

(as you can tell, i ain't a mogwai fan)

Hot Chip

arent punish the atom from notts?

UPDATE: Hurrah! YMSS to re-press, not re-release

yeah. awesome, inventive band. likeable guys. bad haircuts.
The polar opposite of Franz Ferdinand?

Re: This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe

oh sorry, that wasnt meant to be a dig at the band, just the label. the band are awesome people, have done traffic promotion n talked to kele n russell after both gigs. i do quite enjoy there music to.

the thing is, with venues like the concert hall, why play it? rock city holds just about as much, and its one of the best (large) venues in the country

This week's Bloc Party article: "modern fringe" upsets woman

you could say that 'his modern fringe breaks him'
c'mon shes obviously a dude.
and its good to see Bloc Party doing the 're-release the single the early fans have, play crap venues with no soul' routine. so hot right now.

next week. Bloc Party: Bigger than an A-Bomb?

hellogoodbye - hellogoodbye EP

my post should be after vex's.
weird

Hard graft throughout April...

yeh. i can imagine the headline

"The most innovative band since The Bravery"

hellogoodbye - hellogoodbye EP

its music you can dance to

adopts faux american accent, Bill Hicks style:

"holy crap, its music you can dance to. no ones ever tried that, this will really bring in the dollar...music you can dance to...ooh boy"

Towering beauty and titanic tremors: Mono tour the UK

ill try my best to make the corporation. its on a friday and two days before my birthday, so should be able to make it

A Month In Records: February 2005

whats that about the silent league? :)

Redjetson

he seemed arrogant in real life too, but the only time i've spoke to him was at Club NME and i was pretty drunk so it might have been me.
still, with all the talent he has at his age surely he has a right to be cocky. more right than j*hnny b*rell anyway.

Redjetson- Poor mans Sigur Rós anyone?

The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute

The album Jeff Buckley shomade?
How about the album Yes canned (Can-ned geddit?) after deciding they'd downed one too many tequila's?

Re: Closing In On Sleep...

yeh, im tempted, to, write my? review, as im,, writing! now? in the, style. of Mike! Diver,

Noisy boys and their toys: Chariots tour

they are playin 29th of March at Junktion 7 too, according to posters at my college, supported by 'Shooting Victor Francis' and a band i can't remember described as 'earbleedingly epic hardcore' now you know they'll be ISIS rip-offs.

Re: Closing In On Sleep...

oh and to chelsea, this post is really simple. there is a band called Lyca Sleep, they are releasing a single and touring.

Closing In On Sleep...

i hope so sean, the last five times the band played the mill i have said that. the guys are ace (well guitarist n drummer are, haven't talked to the others) and they have some really awesome songs. Hopefully this release will show the critics they are more than just Verve rip-offs (as most people have just heard 'Sold Me A Ride')

oh and Dom, im reviewing the gig fer Sandman so expect competition and Wacky Races style antics. or just expect me to be drunk

Re: 2005 will be a very good year: the ultimate album preview (part 2)

nah there was, i posted a lot of info after there rescue rooms gig, and there was an official statement circulating on many sites from before christmas

Closing In On Sleep...

wooooooooo! indeed (sorry for any missing o's)
that sounds cool dom, would ya like a straight copy or some other stuff putting on? i will probs have some new Tailfly/2hrsTen stuff by then too.
Oh n any chance you could put some Nikoli / Mainline on yrs, still aint got round to checking them out. college leaves little time :)

Red Sparowes - At The Soundless Dawn

mogwai with emotion?
explosions with a pulse?
ISIS without the good bits?

all three, this is the album Aaron Lewis should have made his own.

Closing In On Sleep...

yeh, tracklisting is 'i couldnt tell you', 'its not like it used to be/one and the same thing' and 'widows'. the 2nd/3rd one is the trippy Godspeed-esque one with the siren like guitars. 'i couldnt tell you' is probably my favourite of theirs.

id be happy to send you a cdr of the ep, think i can trust you to not post it on the net and you do promote them n shit. if you are at the mansfield lyca sleep date i could give it to you then?

Closing In On Sleep...

never heard corleone but if they are as good as Sennen and the Sleep then i'll check em out.
thats true about the Mill gig, was only advertised about a week before so couldnt get many people to go.
I thought that Inches Of Air would be the head track of their next release. i was talkin to guitarist when they supported Ludes at NME club n that was their general feeling.
oh, and dom have you got hold of the new sennen promo? got it at the gig, tis awesome

Closing In On Sleep...

'Inches Of Air'?
is that the one they always play fer soundcheck n shit? i think thats probs the best live song. along with the instrumental intro one.
shall definately be at the Town mill, 'opefully they'll get a better crowd than Sennen did.

Tommy Vance dies

yeh hes ripping John Peel off with the whole death thing tho.

in all seriousness tho i agree with all our heroes dying. peel, thompson, to an extent dimebag n now vance.

heres to the quick, painful deaths of Zane Lowe, Stephen King, Mike Shinoda and Chris Moyles

2005 will be a very good year: the ultimate album preview (part 2)

you missed the new A Silver Mt Zion album
disgraceful

Further ATP additions: John Frusciante, Prefuse 73 and more

Trapist.
so good they were named twice :)

One Longer: 65days tour goes 'Hole' hog

yep notts and maybe Dery date fer me i thinks. probs best off seeing if you can preorder the 'hole' ep.

shall do it now

Mogwai - Government Commissions (BBC Sessions 1996-2003)

the New Paths to Helicon 1 song was also on a Rock Sound comp, thats how i got to hear about them.
i do personally think Mogwai are overrated tho. i mean, if you are giving them 5 stars then Dirty Three should technically have 6, Low 8 and Godspeed around 11.

Big Scary News

i heard the 3rd mars volta album will be based around the same concept :)

10th Roadburn Festival - details announced

WHAT? they did a tour of england like a month ago. played Leeds, London, Notts.

10th Roadburn Festival - details announced

fuck man sounds like a good festival. havent got one planned this year either. will have to see how much it will come to after plane from notts to Tilburg or nearest city.

The Bravery announce UK dates. Honest!

regarding the headline:
how many brain-cells did the creation of that kill?
thought i was reading The Mirror for a second.
still i guess it sums up the mediocrity and the 'why bother making an effort' attitude of the music.

Hey Colossus - Set Fire To '05 Part II: HEY COLOSSUS

did you set up an account just for that post?
Hey Collusus and Boris should be an awesome gig at the Notts Cabaret. Only heard one Boris song but they sound pretty cool, dont know if ill be able to pay attention for one of the 70 minute tracks tho, thats a bit too Sunn O)))

Re: Data Panik: BiS by any other name...

heh, i think yr right. you cant really tell exactly
but thats definately the song. cheers

Data Panik: BiS by any other name...

they released a video a couple years back that was quite cartoony and the chorus started with the line 'tell me why' i loved that song but never checked em out. what is the name of the song? (sorry if it is 'tell me why')

BRMC... brmc... b...r...m...c... Is there an echo in here?

heh heh. maybe even now with a giant inflatable cock. or, if were lucky, the guy with a crap haircut who hangs around near the microphone might even sing

Hinterland - Got A New Drug EP

will probs check the 'land out at the town mill. n if i like the social or old angel (which ever one i havent missed)

Re: Jesu - Jesu

i know i cant spell, i live in derbyshire

Jesu - Jesu

i thought your review was terrible mike, but you have good taste, Dalek would be the proverbial honeycomb icing on the provebial dark chocolate cake.
as long as ad infinituum dont support on the notts date :)

Death From Above 1979 - You're A Woman, I'm A Machine

is it just me or is DFA1979's brand of Macho Disco Metal quite similar to that of Andrew (God) WK, but without the guitars and comedy element.

as you can guess i don't 'dig'

Jesu - Jesu

yes, jesu: are, quite good! will, be, seeing them, supporting ISIS at Rock; City.

I wonder? if, the' ever darkening, impending dark. darkness, will transcribe.; to, the live, platform.

Jacko rushed to hospital

jacko doesn't have the flu, just a runny nose.
he stood to close to the oven.

:)

Sennen - Forty Years

did they play this one at the mansfield show?
shall be ordering it...now
