I hated her at first too

stick with it

bloc pumpy

You should

Even the most jaded cynic will melt.

My top 2 albums of the year are both in there

And I gave them both a 10/10!
This makes me happy.

Why didn't you give it a 10?

I agree with lots of the sentiment. It's truly wonderful.

It's a nonsensical statement, to me.

Muse are total cock. Their music is blustery but hollow. Popularity does not equal importance, no matter how closely some people erroneously equate the two.

Bjork

Tom Waits
Marilyn Manson! yeah
Jimi Hendrix!! o wait

hahahhha

that's hilarious.
i went once. it was okay.
after all the hype it turned out to just be a dress-up indie disco with massively overpriced drinks.
i had fun though.

...

I feel really bad that I missed the boat on this. So here's an *FULL* !UNCUT! ***off-the-record*** account of my musical year.

Joanna Newsom - Emily (from Ys)
Simon Bookish - Interview (from Trainwreck/Raincheck)
Kevin Blechdom - What You Want To Believe (from Eat Your Heart Out)
The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health (from Silent Shout)
Planningtorock - Changes (from Have It All)
Germlin - Youth Pixxel (from Youth Pixxel)
Pagan Wanderer Lu - The Memorial Hall (from The Indecent Scroteineer)
Jeremy Warmsley - Dirty Blue Jeans (from The Art Of Fiction)
Crystal Castles - Air War (from Alice Practice)
Danielson - I'm Slow But I'm Sloppy (from the 7" of the same name)

It's been an amazing year for music - but then, every year is. There's just so much out there to find, I can only lament how little of it reaches my ears. A real variety in this list too, although it may have some digital bias. But first and foremost, Joanna Newsom's 'Ys' was a rare and precious gem of an album, and 'Emily' was the song responsible for making this jaded music writer shed a tear on a 38 bus one morning... The Knife, Germlin and Simon Bookish all pushed electronic music in new directions and to new extremes, each in their own unique way realizing a brilliant and special vision, and making me dance around my room while doing it. Crystal Castles created an oddment of a pop classic almost accidentally with Air War. Planningtorock infused her music with predatory sexuality, mixing an operatic vocal range with a chilling, visionary stageshow. Kevin Blechdom produced an absolute stunner of an album, an insane and violent thing that still shocks and amuses me every time I put it on. Jeremy Warmsley continued his upward trajectory to fame and fortune, processing acoustic balladry through an ambitiously inclusive aural filter - Dirty Blue Jeans was the high point of his debut. Pagan Wanderer Lu produced the most thoughtful and considered music I heard this year, and Memorial Hall is a perfect and unforgettable song that sends adrenalin rushing through my body even 6 months after I've played it to daily from weeks on end. And finally Danielson, my single of the year, a 7" slipped out on Anticon containing this wonderfully skewed pop song that looks past winter to a time when I'll be walking along the sea somewhere in spring.

Good this is.

Have I it.

AT HOME!!!!!

Because I'm DJing at Motherfuckr @ Bardens and it's walking distance form my house.
yesssss

That they've been around for a long time as a 'local' band on my radar

And it's funny to see them suddenly on a bill like this out of nowhere.

The Courtesy Group, from Birmingham?

Funny that they should suddenly crop up on a DiS bill.

He was in my dream last night

As a sea captain.

So who are the jazz band.

Chik Budo?

I'd go for Undo, Aurora or Unison as my favourite on Vespertine

and therefore, quite possibly my favourite song ever...

Deserved

For Colin's clitoris-stab joke alone.

Yeah

MINCE (FRATELLIS)
Instantly stops this list from being cool itself, never mind judging what is actually cool.

I can't stand Sov

Shit songs, shit lyrics, shit band.
I'd cry too probs if I was her

Who?

Same here

That said, they are the primary format for at least the next 5 years

downloads will slowly encroach. Brainlove hasn't made the switch to digital yet because it's still a minority of people that use those services, the audience for downloads just isn't widespread enough yet.

CDs bug me

fuck owning bits of crappy plastic. They have no sentimental value, they gather dust and fill space and weigh you down. fewer possessions is better. sound is information.
