I like John Doran.

Props for getting in Francis Fukuyama, too.

Plus...

...we've got 24 hour news channels now, so why are people still buying newspapers? Oh, wait...

Much like the role of the reporter and journalist in general...

...the role of the music journalist has adapted - or needs to - into the 'forum leader' rather than the all-knowing, all-seeing, all dancing discoverers and champions of new music. In a way. Like you say, the full-time music journalist has the resources and time that the part-time bloggers cum joggers and doggers don't have. They also have a privileged position of speaking to larger audiences and access to artists etc. Not that it's an absolute, but there's a contiuum with these things.

The lines are no less or more blurred than they ever were. Well, why should anyone trust a critic with what they say now? Well, indeed - this isn't something that has changed with the internet and Web 2.0. Why should they ever? Everyone has their own pair of ears.

There's been a levelling of the hierarchy which is certainly no bad thing, some would argue. Yet there are still people who yearn for the days of 'tastemakers' upon pedestals, these days are never going to return. There will always a helpful guiding hand, though.

I'm not sure that anyone supports Tim Henman any more...

...maybe his mum? I dunno though.

Really?

Sounds a bit far-fetched to me...

I mean, I've never met the guy...

...but I don't think anyone who goes into that much depth about sound is fighting a struggle for attempted hipness.

If you read Nick's (very good) piece on 'Imperfect Sound'...you'd realise that...

...he's not particularly trying to be hip.

Other than that I'm not really sure what your point is. I don't know how you can measure poshness from writing, to be quite fucking honest. Do tell...

Yes.

Afraid it wasn't you, though.

:(

In the realm of politics and news reporting it's definitely a good thing.

Readers acting as checks and balances on journalists - accountability. Of course, if a journalist gets something wrong and somebody posts so underneath then fair enough. But when it is a discussion and opinion to start off with, the need for accountability is reduced.

What was it you said yesterday?!

"Don't invent a new genre unless you think it is absolutely necessary" or something...

WINK

This sounds, erm, like it's worth checking out. I guess it could be the best thing ever or the worst thing ever. The seven indicates more goodness than badness, mind.

PLUS...

...you'd get comments like.

"scott plagenhoef u suck. this is one of the worst reviews ive ever read on this site. 2/10."

ABOUT A MILLION TIMES. It's frequent enough on this site, and obviously P4K have a few more users than we do. Though our users are generally a bit more literate than the example I attempted above.

It's not.

All this stuff is in addition to, not in place of, the stuff that was going on before. And, well, there's plenty of other written stuff on this and plenty of other websites. If this website was just Spotify lists then you'd have a point, but it isn't and you don't. And, in these sorts of situations, writing 50 words on something is fairly pointless when people have the ability to listen to it anyway.

I think that probably is getting a little deep and twisting the meaning to what he/she really meant...

...I don't think they were talking about critical faculties, in short. Though if you start going down it's a bit slippery. Who is the next person? Who is the next person to the next person? ETC.

Have they?

Cool.

Yus.

The only facts are: THIS IS WHAT I THINK ABOUT THIS ALBUM/BAND/SHOW/MILK CARTON/EXCESSIVE USE OF AUTOTUNE.

Am I the only one...

...who wants to kick people who give out "free hugs" in the balls?

Yeah. It's still all under the RT banner, though, innit.

They've still linked up with RT, even if it's a different arm to the label.

HEY TOM!

Don't let it upset you, yeah? Don't let the bastards grind you down, yeah?

Or, maybe, y'know...he just thought the record was...

...a bit shit? It's a distinct possibility, I'd say.

Is it one song long?

WINK

I look forward to it. Though my beard is kinda long at the moment...

...so it could be a painful experience.

I know, but perhaps only in title...

...I mean, it's not EXPLICITLY about cricket...as Neil Hannon said when I spoke to him, there's a bit of a stalkerish element to it. Read more in the interview...

So they are...

...two of them look exactly the same though, so that's probably where I got confused.

Sad news.

F4S's EP has been one of my records of the year...might pop down for their last show.

Right, ta. Now it will be changed.

LONG LIVE THE APOLLO.

You're probably right.

And the press release is probably wrong. But these 02 Academies are fucking all over the place...

STICKLE BRICKS!

A staple of my childhood memories around my Nan's house. You really could make NOTHING out of them but, boy, they were good for chewing on.

P.S The APC single is super.

Not really.

Errrrrrrrr

It wasn't when I wrote it. It seems someone mistook Apse for APTBS and "corrected it".

2009...

...and it's up there with the best of them this year.

So they ruddy well have done!

And more! Amended.

Haha, this sounds like great fun!

Good stuff!

Just the 35 times?

[shrugs]

I guess...

Sounds good though. I have a single from this lying around somewhere...

:D

Well, did you HONESTLY expect him to come out and say...

"You've got me, I'm a racist!"

REALLY?

Can't see you winning, mate.

Sorry.
