a) The United Kingdom

do I win for being the 130th reply?

very well written and entertaining review

and I'd say it was fairly accurate too.

brilliant interview

just seems like the nicest bloke ever doesn't he?!

this band are amazing

i can't get enough

That's such a shame, I was so excited hearing about it.

I assumed it must have been something I missed when I took my eyes away from his blog for a day or so, but it would surely be natural for such a beautiful song to be allll over everyone's blogs by now.
Good luck on getting the mp3, and this list is definitely a brilliant year's summary - it would be if I'd heard of much of it...

what song is number 4 talking about?

and where can i hear it!

i was

just thinking the exact same thing!

Well it is my birthday today

So when Bradford gets here I'm taking him to the Brighton pier to enjoy the neon pleasures of the rides, then I'm thinking I'd hit some British clichés; really expensive fish and chips, a cup of tea and a scone somewhere, then we'd binge drink on K cider and get refused entry to a few clubs before stumbling back home and sleeping in my hallway because Bradford dared me to throw my keys into the sea.

i

didnt see this coming at all, a good but strange choice

That moment

in the 1st Maccabees video at 0:56 when Felix and Orlando look at each other when the crowd sing the words for them really made me shiver, I can't imagine that feeling. Truely great live sound as well!

i really like this mix, when i looked at the tracklist i thought it

would be waaaay too long, but it's a great length!

just one thing about this review, why are pavement "for women"?

the song by Those Dancing Days

which was on the Plan B compilation was brilliant, I'm truely in love with them now!

^ this

KOL were amazing at Reading I thought, should have headlined

I

was saying Kiss are probably amazing live, with all the zip wires and pyrotechnics and that.

you do have to agree that

kiss put on one hell of a stage show. but their music is so awful the bad faaaar outweighs the good

this is the best summary of the album ever

"Perhaps the worst, most insulting thing about What Of Our Future is its pretension to be something it just so blatantly isn't, namely an interesting, genre-bending mash-up of guitars and electronics."

I love this band

and met them at all rough trade a while ago, really nice guys too, all signed my record :)

this

is an amazing song, it's video is quality too + the franz ferdinand cover is brilliant! seriously, one of my favourite songs this year!

I

have loved this song for a long time, but without WANTING to sound like an elitist, i loved the older version better. still a good song though, just not as great.

i can't see what is so bad with the vocals though, i like them like that...

Haha

"I kind of like the way their entire career has effectively been made redundant by one Johnny Cash cover version". Me too!

elliott doing my sweet lord

elliott did absolutely loads of amazing covers

http://www.blamonet.com/vb/showthread.php?t=102534

thats a list of all of them people could come up with, i can't find a link just to my sweet lord though, sorry.

xo

lemar

i don't know why mark lemar left either? i heard he was only having a one series break - then coming back... he used to have me in stitches, but i do remember amstell being pretty funny on it too

missed tickets

but i still fucking love the sleepy jackson. that is all.

that elliott song

Really is one of the least likeable of all of his stuff, I have to say that almost anything from his 6 albums would probably be better suited to this comp. (but that would make me sound like an obsessed fan.

Also, the Rough Trdae compilations are always good and I have a lot to thank them for for turning me on to some great bands and music, so this looks definitely worth a buy.

More Of The Same From Pete (And The Sun)

I completely understand the outrage at these pictures, and agree they are definitely outrageous - but - the accusations might just be exaggerated, or perceived in a certain way simply to villify Pete more so than already done. There is little way that you can tell that Pete is actually injecting the girl's arm with the needle in the Sun's photos, he could simply be removing it (as he claims), and just because her eyes are closed doesn't make her 'unconscious' or 'asleep', they might have just been shut while the photo was taken, after all isn't that the state heroin usually leaves people in after a hit (as alcxxk says)? I mean, seeing him do drugs isn't exactly earth-shattering, so maybe this is just an excuse to invent a new way to criticise him by The Sun, because doing drugs is hardly a rare or surprising event in his life.
I just think we need to remember the hate campaign against Pete at the moment, which helps to better understand why these photos are being interpreted as they are, and not just as more evidence of his drug problems, which are stacking up.
Maybe the story of 'Pete injects female fan' is just another example of the sensationalist Sun? Come on, that wouldn't be too hard to believe.

BYOP like YYYs?

It's unfair to compare BYOP with the yeah yeah yeahs, firstly BYOP are far punkier and harsher than YYY, who have some amazing and beautiful slower songs like Y Control, Modern Romance, Maps etc. I like both bands, but BYOP are in no way an new version of the YYY just because they have a crazy female singer. There is definitely still a place for the YYYs so they can start to rightfully dominate the world.

worst list EVER

i hate virgin radion, but i love the beatles, yet their listeners manage to choose possibly the two worst beatles songs of all time to be there. shocking! the same goes with lennon, so many of his songs were better than imagine. i don't think comment on james blunt is really needed - fuck right off

fairytale of new york

this is quite rightfully at number 1 - with out a doubt the best christmas song OF ALL TIME, and I'm glad most people agree!

this song

i thought i was an indie snob, but i really like this song compared to most the others in the running

Antony And The Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now

I first heard some of the album performed live on Jools Holland, and I was initally disturbed by his voice but then I bought the album a couple of weeks later and have listened to it over and over agin. It gets inside you, and you can't escape the beauty.
