JULY SKIES

I was slightly disapointed with the lack of vocals on the record.

However, i love the concept and the pictures it can paint in your head (granted, there's a lot of spiel that accompanies the record, but that all helps.. tv testcards, summer holidays etc)

its a quaint and quiet record which isn't meant to get you up and dancing, its just meant to take you back.

it works, i like it.

Friday

i was there Friday and the sound was crap but after a few pints who cares? It was an amazing gig. Just gutted i wasn't there for the saturday as well.

p.s. its called All my Life not One by One.

As long as Coldplay

are regarded as uncool by music journos, they will never make the classic that Chris Martin is desperate to create. X&Y was pretty poor admittedly, but you've gotta applaud them for at least trying to move away from their 'bland' stadium band image.

don't panic
see you soon
brothers and sisters
spies
warning sign
politik
a message
till kingdom come

also

did you watch the FA Cup Final? One Day Like This was used during the closing credits. I'd be interested to know whether sales of the album rocketed in Portsmouth this past week?? I can imagine 20,000 Pompey fans forever associating that tune with the greatest day of their lives

my question

What happened to the propsed B-Sides album? And do you have any plans for a 'stop gap' album or DVD after you finish up with the current campaign.
A Bsides and Rarities album would go down a treat

the

UK Bonus track will be Island in the Sun. If the last two album are anything to go by

hmm

i hope they werent offended by my V festival question. I mean, they might've thought that 'headliners of Radio 1 tent' at Reading was some sort of sly dig, like they're not good enough for main stage or something. I just genuinely want to see them at Reading again this year, regardless of how many sets they played last year. I just get this feeling they're gonna head to V Festival on record labels orders or something.

I effin love Jimmy Eat World but they were apparantly preoccupied during this interview.

p.s. For the record i don't smoke weed. And I don't have a massive vendetta against V (nice pun though)... i just wanna see Jimmy get appreciated by a Reading crowd rather than talked through by a V crowd

leaders of the free world

is my favourite elbow album. Its near perfect.

Hmm

i actually meant to say 'know it inside out.' not back to front. That doesnt make sense

Me too

need it desperately but will not download it. I've had a listen to The Fix but i'm determined not to hear any more of this record.
I'm so bloody glad its out soon. I've played Leaders... to death and know it back to front. I may even go out and buy the CD single tomorrow, which is something i havent done in about 2 years.

p.s i got a bit worried at the start of the review...'boring'

amen

to that

good interview

well written. Garvey is a brilliant songwriter - one of the finest around today, and its good to read an interview with him that focuses on his songwriting.

He's written so many poignent lyrics, or words that just make you really think. Its time he was recognised for it.

Take the lyrics to Switching Off for example. Every time I hear that song it paints a picture in my head, like a well written story should.

'...and the curtain sighs,
in time with you...

you're the only sense,
the world has ever made.
Early evening June
this room and a radio play..

I choose my final scene, today
switching off with you'

Brilliant, and if the new album is half as good as that song i'll be happy.

Any festivals lined up this summer?

although you played Reading twice last year, i'm sure you'd be welcomed back as Radio 1 tent headliners. Just don't play friggin V festival

JIMMY,

i've noticed a pattern with your albums (not including static prevails)

Clarity - downbeat
Bleed American - Upbeat
Futures - downbeat
Chase the light - Upbeat

is this on purpose? Is this also the worst question ever thought up? Yes.

disapointed

this year. but the overall line up has been getting worse year on year.
2004 was an awesome line up.. duke spirit, phonics, groove armada, the who, david bowie, delays, manics, jet

so much promise. i blame virgin radio for getting their mits on it

what

what are they doing between finishing the album in december and releasing it in august?? thats a massive wait.

and

no ears by the sounds of it

the bonus tracks

are actually quite good. and i'm not a fan of bonus tracks

jeez

it took you 4 weeks to write this review?

i love the artwork

i want this CD just for the front cover.

OASIS'

previous attempts at psycadelia have always been embarrasing. Who Feels Love was like a song by the Rutles and Probably All In The Mind was pretty naff too.
Noel is right, whats left to write about? Hang on, you've just had a kid.. surely theres some inspiration there no? (personally, i hope not)

Yes

you do want this album. Futures was great but lets not get into that debate again.
I've noticed a pattern with JEW..

Clarity - dark
Bleed American - uplifting
Futures - dark
Chase this Light - Uplifting

IF YOU'RE LIS-TEN-ING

WOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAHHHHHHH

All I Need

is destined to become a Radiohead classic and were the band to allow permission it would soundtrack the opening credits to a 'gritty' and dark Brit flick about drugs or suicide probably.

also

what the hell does 'singing uh oh on a friday night' mean anyway? its just bullshit lyrics and she obviously stuck with whatever first popped into her head when she was writing it, the lazy moo

i find her irritating

they

were wicked at reading. Fair play to Reznor for trying to keep it fresh. I guess the nature of their music allows for it though

i

put in 0.00 to see if it would let me, and i think its worked. didnt ask for any credit card details etc.
Likewise, i'm not a big radiohead fan so did it out of curiosity. If i like it, and they release it physically in the shops, then i'll buy that.
cos downloads suck

hmmm

think i've just bought it for free. nice one!

i reckon

Carrie is actually a bitter make up wearing emo boy.
Stupid review, and anyone with half a brain will realise that this is a very solid album, their best in a decade, and anyone with a whole brain will know that this review is turd. And whats with all the HIV references ffs??

anyone

actually heard the athlete track? me neither. I'm pretty sure Q only gave their new album 2 stars, so its like they're apologising to them by nominating them

are they actually

tonguing in that picture? looks like britney is.
anyway, a picture like that is surely only sent from heaven, rather than satan

lol

heres just a couple of last years winners....

The Who received the prestigious Q Legend Award and Primal Scream won the Q Groundbreaker award.

In a personal double whammy for Oasis’ Noel Gallagher, his classic songwriter award was presented by one of his heroes - Paul Weller.

fuck off

just fuck off.

Hang on

wheres the following awards that Q usually have?

Lifetime Legend award
Legend of a lifetime award
Lifelong Legacy Award
Musical contribution to Music Award
Legendary Contribution to the 1980's
Best Song Ever award
The Bono award for world peace award, always awarded to Bono

same shit

different year. Have U2 even picked up a sodding guitar in the past 12 months?? Oh yes, i forgot.. the Edge had to pick his guitar up to be photographed by Q for an interview. That must be it

Q = Poo.... SO WHY DO I STILL BUY IT?!?! AGGHHHH

mammoth

is defintly not a bizarre choice of single. Its one of the most uptempo on the album, and probably most radio friendly (despite the 'fuckings')

Dont really think there are many other tunes on there that could work as a single. Pace is the Trick probably would work.
But i do think the general consencious is that this album isn't up to scratch really. I've given it time, but have found myself listening to ..Bright Lights more recently.

2000

when oasis were on the main stage

well

i've never heard of him. does he write for Q magazine? If so, i rest my case.

yeah

why do BBC insist on dragging ade edmonson out every new years eve, comic, relief, and mercury music prize. I mean, the bloke should stick to what he was once good at.
And that other bloke was just some middle aged toff who probably hasn't purchased an album since Dido released her last album 3 years ago

hmm

alright then love

..

'headliners in the NME tent always just disappear immediately afterwards. That's what happens. It's like the law, or something.'

no i didnt say that. i'm saying that the organisers know that klaxons are shit and will never play any higher, so get em headlining while the scene is still alive cos in 2 years time they'll be stacking shelves in asda. hopefully

not true

the judge who was interviewed stated that the performances on the night can often sway the decision

bad bad choice

klaxons are a mess. they put on the worst performance of the night at the mercurys, and the interview was just embarrasing. With any luck the mercury curse will hit them and they'll disapear in a year or so. Which they probably would've anyway since they're just an NME 'scene' band.
In fact, i think the Klaxons represent the poor side of the currently healthy music scene in britain. Weak songs, poor live and idiot band members who just want to have their 5 minutes of fame. In fact, the lead singer even said in the interview that they started the band 'as a joke'

Lets face it, they're not gonna be around in 2 years time. The Reading Festival organisers recognised that by making them headliners in the Radio 1 tent. In other words, get em now before they are no longer cool

haha

love that wham video. its so bad its good. especially 1.30 before the end

agreed

Fopps prices allowed you to do that slightly mental but brilliant thing where you buy an album based on its artwork, or because you recognise the name. If its shit, so what, it only cost 3 or 5 quid and at least you liked the album cover.
sorry. tangent.

olive grove

beautiful song. As is One Night Is Not Enough

this is true

^^^

..

Do you think it'll have Island in the Sun as a bonus track?

Its not a ukelele

its a mandolin

cant wait

for this album. was initially disapointed with 'Smokers..' The sound was too Jacknife Lee BIG noise. But that songs grown on me. I also loved the title track as soon as i heard it.
Should be a good album.
And i'm glad they've beaten the 2nd album syndrome that is hitting /is gonna hit so many of these NME bands.
