He had 2 great albums?
I didn't like either of them. In fact, I never liked any of his albums. I'm actually kind of surprised people here give him any cred at all.

Love Is Here.
I really liked 'Love Is Here'. Every album after that has been shyte. I keep giving them a chance though. Lesson learned.
No, not really.
First album was tops.
Everything after that has been too "try hard". He was only good when he was genuinely messed up and just having fun. Everything after the first album wasn't created with the fun energy he had in his 1st album.
Either get fucked up and have fun, or don't come to the party.
Don't like him much, but...
Don't like him much, but the snub was unfair.
Franz is great..
...and they seem genuine enough. Don't know what you're all going on about.
Agreed with review
Definitely a 9/10 or 10/10.
Elbow may not be deserving?
If someone isn't deserving, it's Burial.
I didn't think the list of nominees was very good, but from the list of nominees this year, Elbow is a deserving winner. I can't really say that about Burial.
One of my favourite bands.
Glad they won.
Hmmm...
I heard the first song on LWBYH and thought, "This brilliant band just made one of the best tracks of 200X. Incredible." Then I heard the rest of the album and realized how average they were. Since the very first song, it's been all downhill from there.
Here's hoping this new album is better.
They're always great live
They're always great at live gigs. Too bad their last album was rubbish, and Absolution was only slightly better.
But despite this, they're great live. Some great bands make their own music sound horrible when played live, whereas a mediocre Muse song will sound as good live as it does on the album.
And I like the version of Micro Cuts from the HAARP live album far better than the version on OOS.
?
Whoever said that the most popular/hyped album has the best chance of winning is right. Haven't even heard The Bug, Wild Beasts, These New Puritans, or Robert Wyatt, so there's no chance of them getting my vote.
Voted for Mystery Jets because they seem lonely.
Elbow
While my list would look a bit different from the one presented to us, I really hope Elbow win it. In fact, it probably would have been my pick regardless of who was on the list. I just wish there were better albums on that list to offer people some more options. The Last Shadow Puppets are not really an option for people who have taste.
The Chavs?
Are they going to wear Adidas and Burberry in all their videos?
So is DiS being replaced?
I don't really understand this. DiS is great, has decent interviews, news stories, but no (or not many) real feature articles. Is that the only big difference?
Yuck!
I've never been a fan of The Strokes. They're the early decade's Vampire Weekend.
Isn't it a bit racist?
I mean, Obama goes into a school with mostly African American students, and for him to start talking about rap and pro sports means he assumes that just because the school is mostly black, they'll all want to be rappers and basketball players. It's racist.
And besides, even white kids want to be rappers and basketball players. Does that mean they don't also realize that there's no way it'll happen?
Black kids who do poorly at school aren't disinterested because they all want to be rappers. They do poorly because of other reasons, and these reasons may be the same reason some white kids also don't do well in school.
All I want to hear is....
Missy, and Dre.
They have been producing shit after thinking about their albums.
How is recording it even quicker going to help?
Awwww.....
....don't cry emo kid.
A 6/10?
You were being nice.
I was hoping for more "In Search Of..." and less "Fly or Die". We got an improved Fly or Die album, but it's not really what I was hoping for.
Also, Kill Joy sounds a bit too Chili Peppers for my taste.
9/10 for me
Maybe I like bland music. I just think the album "sounds" beautiful. The fact that it's not lyrically bad is a plus.
.
I can't even remember which albums came out this year:
Mystery Jets
Elbow
The Sleeping Years
Hot Chip
Lupe Fiasco
Portishead
Coldplay
And a few others that I can't remember, I'm sure.
Yep, Things Fall Apart was incredible
This album is quite good too.
I think he was a genius
I think he was a genius once. Now I find his music unbearable. I hope this new one doesn't disappoint. I'm a bit tired of giving him chances.
Andy Gill....
...writes like a bad blogger.
Again, I'm not a huge Coldplay fan. Parachutes will be considered a classic, and although I don't think it's life-changing, I wouldn't shake my head in complete disbelief since I did enjoy the album a bit, and can understand why people love it.
Didn't like A Rush of Blood To The Head.
Didn't like X&Y.
However, they're not that bad. Arguably, they have never made a "bad" album. They just haven't made great ones. Their work has been middle-ground, which is better than some groups who DO make really bad albums without EVER making a good one.
And a band that strives to improve is better than bands who just want to sell more records, so at least they still have my respect. You can't say the same thing about many popular bands.
This review is...
This review is for people who don't want to read a real review.
It was about image. That's it. The review also seems far too subjective. You rated it based on Chris Martin's expectations of creating a classic, and something that everyone would consider different. They may not have succeeded, but what about the album? Forget what you read about Chris Martin, forget his band's image, forget his desired image. Review the album as an isolated thing.
I don't really like Coldplay, and I hated that first single of theirs, but if I'm going to listen to an album, I'm going to try and keep my bias and perceptions in check.
The album probably deserves a 6/10 or 7/10, but not because it fails to live up Radiohead.
Doesn't matter
Even if you think Discovery is better, it wasn't a game-changer. Homework changed everything. Really. The impact was huge. If they had died in the 1990s, they'd be bigger than Nirvana after Homework. I thought Nirvana was overrated anyway.
Remember when Muse was good?
That was before Absolution and that last album they made, which was shite, plain and simple.
They used to be a sure thing before they signed to a major label, but if they make an album as "pop" as their last album, I'm going to just give up on them. They will have just David Gray'ed themselves off the playlist.
He seems like a decent guy
Shame about the music, though.
Hmmmm...
Her ass is amazing during the first scene of Lost in Translation. Unless she starts speaking out of her ass, I don't care what songs come out of her mouth.
I loved Parachutes, but...
...I have hated everything else since.
This is definitely an improvement, I reckon. I just hope that Coldplay doesn't make any more albums that are unquestionably mediocre, which is what X&Y was......undeniably mediocre.
Normally I wouldn't care if a crap band makes crap music. I just won't listen to it. Unfortunately, I think Chris Martin may be a pretty decent human, so all the best to him and his Radio1-friendly band.
Simma down
Switch to decaf.
What does it "grow" into?
?
Very average album. The first one was much better. This album just doesn't have the energy of the 1st.
Only an 8/10?
?
I will admit that when I first heard the first 2 tracks, I thought, "What the hell is this?" I was expecting something VERY different to Dummy, maybe a bit more like Portishead (the album), but more rock or something. Don't know.
Now I think this album is sheer brilliance. As an album, it's absolutely incredible. Love Machine Gun, Magic Doors, Nylon Smile, and Plastic.
But I guess I'm the only one who doesn't get all the praise being thrown at "We Carry On". It's not my favourite.
Bjork
Bjork, coming soon to a cheesy Chinese horror movie near you.
Hmmm...
So because Devon is full of idiots, Pete Tong should suffer from the result?
Who instigated the shout-out? Oh yes, daddy's little girl.
What a little bitch
"I am going to blast this fool."
Do people really say that? I mean "real" people.....not characters in movies.
Me too
Me three.
Only 9/10?
Truly wonderful, beautiful album. Elbow are truly in a class of their own right now.
I love the first 3 songs. In fact, I love them so much that I haven't even given a proper listen to the rest of the album yet. Eventually, I'll get there.
The Bones of You is a definite winner.
I'm going to go the opposite way and say it was.....
....cute. Definitely staged, but he's a really young kid and did a pretty good job.
But for fuck sakes, Poshie.....pay the fucking kid.
So we're all in agreement.
Blind is fucking ace.
Because.
Because he doesn't want to accidentally make sense.
I'm going to..
....offset your 6 or 7 out of 10 rating by giving this album 13 or 14 out of 10.
Just heard the entire album
Not as good as past efforts, unfortunately.
Love this band, but....
Tick Tick BOOM is crap, and I'm worried about the rest of the album.
Here's my review:
It is a fantastic record. 9/10
6 weeks?
He was so low during rehab that 6 weeks was enough? Surely his minders didn't know what they were doing.
stripping back the reverb?
He "strips back the excess layers of reverb to allow the melodies to take centre stage on songs such as ‘No One’s Gonna Love You’....".
I love "No One's Gonna Love You", and quite frankly, I don't see how you can say they stripped the excess layers of reverb. Maybe from other songs, but not this one. In fact, there's excess amounts of it, and it's fantastic.

Hmmmm.....
I like the album, but don't think this album deserves more than a 6 or 7/10 at most. I love the sound, but am not a fan of the lyrics.
