amyblue - right on - this is about real indie - why can't a flute player or a hip hop artist be called indie. I don't like the way the name has been hijacked to exclude other forms of independent music. For that matter I hate the term unsigned as it implies unwashed, unclean, ungood - they are INDEPENDENT artists - all of them.
2bob - sorry we missed you out and the venue - maybe next year. This all started out as a bit of fun and we did all we could on very little resources to get to where we are now.
MyOtherCarsaJag - Yeah we spelt it with a Y cos IE has been hijacked to mean something else - see above.
timhulio - no it's not pathetic and it's not a competition either. Artists have been NOMINATED by the venues and promoters. Out of 40,000 emerging artists that played on their stages these are the top 200. Nor is it a showcase. The artists have already played - hundredes of times over many years, they have and still are paying their dues. We don't believe in media and mobile companies charging extortionate amounts for text voting to win prizes with no real value. Its exploitive!
345Boy - what's wrong with a) a promoter being in a band and b) nominating? It's not against the rules and their has been no SNEAKING IN. I know a lot of promoters who work tirelessly to help not just themselves but other artists around them - I think they are called collectives, very common in every aspect of the art world.
Finally folks, the reaction from nominated artists and their fans has been incredibly positive and for over 50% it has resulted in being offered better gigs, approaches by management and record companies and increases in fans.
Go check the bands and artists out on the site or go see them live - you will not be dissappointed.
Lets not get too cynical here...
