they did not play anything off feels
and they didn't play banshee beat.
other than that, this is fairly accurate and good review.
it was a special night
Pitchfork gave it an 8.7
by my logic that anything over 8.4 on pitchfork must be a good album, this must be quite a good album.
i therefore bought it.
i must say, the first 6 songs are wonderful, but it does trail off towards the end.
Now way a 4 (that is fucking ridiculous) and it makes me quite sad that someone would let it be a 4 at Drowned in Sound.
very biased.
Shame people can't just put their preconcieved opinions behind them, and listen to the album.
it is actually pretty good, though it is obviously no petsounds etc etc etc whatever.
It is a shame
you can't just enjoy it for what it is.
The entire point of animal collective is to continually evolve and sound completely different with every album, to continually progress and push the limits of their capabilities to avoid being monotonous.
This album is how they want to sound now, and in my opinion, it is something that is quite a childish and innocent sound, which sort of fits with the album.
Anyway, it does not matter if you don't like, i don't really care about the state of your ears, but it is jsut boring for you to tell everyone they are wrong things.
music is subjective the last time i checked, and A.J.Ayer is a genius.
why is he playing so early
or is it door times.
I could not agree with this wonderful review any more
it actually is a masterpiece.
i did not realize this fully until putting it into my cd player this morning, having listened to it on download for months.
it is so perfect. the artwork. the sounds. the words. the feeling.
i think it might be my unexpected album of the year.
i can't quite contemplate how they continue to get better and better and progress
Oh my
Shakespeare and tennyson spring to mind
I still secretly wish i was there
but when i think about it, i realize that sitting at home is better.
ish
If Bat For Lashes win
it will be the best thing to happen ever...well, since Anthony and the johnstons won.
Pleaaaaaasssse Mercury Men and women make the right choice.
^
but safer is absolutely incredible.
I don't see how it is "horrible and completely unlistenable"
Fat?
those crazy french people.
i think it is as good, if not better
there is as much magic, if not more than previous work.
I don't see how they have lost any magic, in fact this album has far more magic than previous efforts.
Peacebone is such a wonderful song
and so is the entire album.
And Safer is possibly the best b-side of all of time ever.
What a wonderful review
and very honest also.
It is nice to see something that is not like, yep, NME like, therefore it is shit.
It is bad, but, yes, in a sort of, half-good way.
We met the man from Battles
and as a direct quote he said he could hear "shit all" on stage, and seemed rahter annoyed at the whole thing.
It is a shame, becasue Battles were fantastic, but you could just tell that they could be SO much better without the adversity.
Oh, and with the whole Homefires being too small thing, i think their main problem was too much of a good thing.
There were jsut too many good acts for the amount of space. Which is just absurd! I can't actually believe that is a criticism, but it kind of is.
I really want to hear this song
he sounds so interesting.
I agree
though she is a bit, well, average, i do think she could have done something a bit special, if she had given it more time.
A shame,
i think foundatiosnis quite an enjoyable pop song.
And yes, good review
Never
evereverververeverever
It is quite true to be honest
in the context of newspapers and the NME etcetcetcetcetc
I
have to go.
I like the review and song
it is just a style of writing.
It is better than what you get from the NME and all that jazz,
oh and all those people who make music reviews sound like a scientific disection.
Which i suppose is appropriate for animal collective.
Not the arctic monkeys.
I think if anybody took the time
to actually think about the album, and its inherent message, and the brutal honesty of the lyrics, instead of hiding behind a pretension that has been built around disproving the hype, they would realise that a weekend in the city is without a doubt a masterpice, which has been geniusly out together to create essentially a concept album. I don't think it is a groundbreaking album by any means, but taking into account the essence and potential of the album, it would be ridiculous to write the album off.
Umm *feels sheepish*...
Sorry, i think that rant was sparked by a particularly bad day at college which has become infested with new scary cool top shop-clad people, cxoupled with a desperate attempt to sell myself to a bored admissions tutor...I have to say, drowned in sound is amazing, the best thing i have found on the internet(though for a boy with no myspace, msn, etc. that isnt saying much), but i do find the current trend of anti-larrikin love feelings a little tedious as they clearly arent a simple libertines-copy band, in fact they sound nothing like the libertines, and i in fact hate the cuurent trend of "cool" London bands, but Larrikin Love are obviously different considering their wider breadth of musical influences.
I also hate people who slag off reviews and this site for ACTUALLY HAVING AN OPINION, but i did slightly feel, as not expressed in previous post, that this review seemed to be written with a pre-set view on the band, based on a false and unresearched assumption that they have little beyond the jangly guitars.
But "punky fratellis maddness" is slightly myopic don't you agree? How fiddle sounds like guitar i do not know to be honest...though i am obviously aware that this is not DIS fault. stupid me. its just a page. very good writers. opinions. AMAZING bands, but i would think that you could see my fundamental point: it is a rather byassed review...
This is actually ridiculous and epitomises...
everything wrong with DIS. You loved Larrikin when they released their nediocre-singles earlier in the year as the relatively unknown london four piece. Though now that they have a little mainstream attention you claim that, easily their best single, is "superficial ska-pop". IDIOT. aaahhhhhhh
Larrikin love are so much more than the libertines legacy and snobs such as DIS are threatening and ruining the flourishing career of this promising band simply because they are too-lazy to find originality in a band still using a chorus. They have nothing to do with "the death of the libertines" and all this reveiw highlights is that this site is becoming increasingly like the NME it apparently despises so much...
I bought this a few days ago...
..it is amazing.
I actually find it quite hard...
to contemplate how good this song is; it just seems rhiddled with everythin that makes music perfect.
Shall make a desperate attempt today to buy it from local record shop but may inevitably fail and be forced to resort to the internet.
I bough this on seven inch today...
it did sound alot better at one o'clock in the morning whilst in a perpetual state of drunkeness. However, it does still deserve a notable mention for the hilarious title which can be easily shouted at girls/boys across the land.
This song truly is...
incredible. Though i have not previously thought about it, i do now see the dance-ability of this song; such ideas shall be trialled and tested at Reading.
That is true...
such a dissapointment considering how the album is so incredible; they shall be missed anyhow.
The MSTKRFT remix of Monster Hospital is fantastic though; however this may be because the original is also so good.
Well since I have
got my hands on the album and found suitable headphones i have lisened to the album in its entirety at least seven times and so i think this review is a little unfiar as not all music-listeners today are "attention-challenged download demographics" and it is only those who listen to The Automatic who can be found within this bracket. In my opinion, there are songs here that are as good, if not better, than those on his other albums.
Hot Chip or
Thom Yorke will win (hopefully) in my opinion because an electronic record has not won for a while, and they are both amazing.
Arctic Monkeys on the other hand are far too predictable, as with Kaiser Cheifs, and there album is not THAT good to be honest, and though it is a similar situation to that with Franz Ferdinand a few years back, Franz had more credibility than the Arctics in indie-music-know-it-all circles who will judge it...on the other hand they might just make it easy for themselves and go for Arctic Monkeys.
Having said this, Guillemots is probably a good bet, as they're both credible and coffee-table...oh, i dont know, it is very hard this year...
Harrowdown hill...
...is the best Radiohead song since Kid-A. Very special as a whole.

I read the article on the train home today
and i must say it is utterly bizare.
Morrissey actually comes across really well in the interview, and genreally torughout. it is only when the NME start to twist his ideas that he could in anyway appear racist. It is abusrd.
I think this will turn out to be the stupidest decision the NME ever ever ever ever make.
i actually think the entire thing is a total disgrace and actually illustrates the very sorry state that the NME and popular music has reached.
It all makes me quite sad.
and i think Morrissey is obviously quite hurt by it. 'irish blood english heart' even talks about disliking racists and things. i think.
