Or maybe it's more
a case of getting a really eclectic line up that music fans will enjoy? Just a thought.
Great news, The Damned are one of my wife's favourite bands
Hell Yeah
I was at that Phoenix. I wept during Bowie, it was the first (and so far only) time I've seen my musical hero. Neil Young was awesome. Someone made a massive campfire right down the front, the atmosphere and music were so perfect. Don't remember Bjork, must have been battered. Didn't the Prodigy pr Chemical Brothers play as well? What a great festival that was
Great great news
About Butthole Surfers, never saw them back in the day
I'm really hoping for Jello Biafra. Or Boris. Or DEP. This just gets better and better
Even if I was whisked home
in a bed on wheels driven at 20 mph, it would be a journey from hell. I feel so rough on the Monday after a festival that nothing exists that could make it any less nightmarish.
I haven't
Seen The Cure live since 1992, but have recently getting back into them after a gap of at least 10 years. Do they ever play the UK anymore apart from one date every 5 years that sells out in seconds?
Pah
These guys are good, but they can't touch High On Fire. Death Is This Communion is stunning. In a similar vein, check out Baroness - The Red Album. Another great great band.
Great review
And a fine fine album, better I say that the final McClusky offering. You should have given it an '8' to piss Falkous off.
Nice article/interview
Still utterly fucked off I missed their gig the other week. Looking forward to getting the album big time, I love the Lord Hates A Coward
I saw the Foos
at their first ever gig in the UK, and recently saw them at the Brighton secret show a few weeks back. So yeah you could call me a fan. But they have an annoying habit of releasing genius singles (like this one) and then an album of dull filler. Its been happening for years - their only 2 great albums are the first 2. When they finally release a Best Of, everyone….and I mean EVERYONE….will realise what a truly great band they are. They're not going to change the face of music, but if its shouty pop/rock you're after, no one can touch them.
To be honest...
Fuck Russian Circles. Yes, they are pretty good but they are just an arty instrumental metal-ish band (and how many of those are there these days?). HoF are fucking incredible, and while I hope they never leave the underground, I hope they get more widespread coverage. They are about as vital as metal gets these days.
I saw the Jesus Lizard back in the day
and almost got knocked out by a naked Yow landing on my head. Happy days. Might well check this out
I've been to Guilfest
A couple of times, and its an ace festival. Well organised, cheap, great food and beer, nice atmosphere. I can't think of many places where you'd see Billy Idol, Winnebago Deal, A-Ha and 65 Days of Static in one weekend. A top laugh. Plus they have things like the Silent Disco and we all went for a nice swim in the lido down the road to wash/revive ourselves on the Sunday.
I've been going to festivals since Reading 91
But am getting fucking sick of the situation in the UK and also the expense. Me and the missus have vowed to never go to Reading again. It is just full of pissed up rich kids let loose from Mummy & Daddy for the weekend, running around setting fire to tents and seeing how much damage they can cause. I don't want to have to worry about whether some little cunt is going to blow up a gas canister next to my tent. Fuck Reading/Download/Glasto, me and about 10 others are off to mainland Europe next year - Hove, Pukkelpop, Roskilde, Rock Am Ring etc
Dead Kennedys had
the songs and the humour, but Bad Brains were the important band - they influenced a generation. Rollins, Ian Mackaye, Dave Grohl, Thurston Moore....the list goes on of people whose lives were utterly turned around.
So Eugene and the other
bloke cancelled an entire set at a festival (that people might have been looking forward to), just so they could dance around like eedjits and shout a bit during Madge's peformance? For a load of people who didn't know who they were? Well done boys, good move.
Well I didn't buy their CD
because I worship anything DiS say is good, I bought it cos it sounded intriguing. And....its not bad at all. It's enough to get me to their show in Brighton, and has made me chuffed that the mighty High on Fire have a decent support when they play London.
Heavy music fan?
That was the worst festival review I've ever read. What a waste of space. They were tons of great bands to see if you had any (as you claim) interest in heavy music: the mental circus that is Turbonegro, a little band called IRON MAIDEN, the incredible as ever Mastodon, the none-more-punk Suicidal Tendencies, the heavy as fuck Lamb of God, the inspiring Napalm Death, the frankly stunning Hayseed Dixie, the dumb entertainment of Motley Crue…..yet this guy went to see fucking MCR? Head Automatica? And then spent the rest of the time in the VIP bar? What a twat
Boobies
Their guitarist used to work in our office. He has man breasts. That is all.
Headline gigs?
I invested in their album purely based on their SXSW review on these very pages. Its great stuff, hope they make it down to Brighton for their own gigs.
Yup
Agree with the 'Interpol with tunes' comment. I think the 1st album is excellent, but am a bit worried about the singer mentioning the word 'Coldplay' in the same sentence as 'our 2nd album'
Old man
My first festival was Glastonbury 89. The wristbands were removable, so me and a mate got in for £5 each. Saw Elvis Costello, The Proclaimers and The Waterboys on the Main stage, as there was fuck all else to see. Spent the rest of the weekend winding up hippies and taking drugs. Woo! Have been to Reading 7 times and Download 3 times since then, but never made it back to Glasto, the stoopid ticket thing puts me off, can't be arsed
Up the Irons!
Hey music trivia fans, Sanctuary was started by Iron Maiden's manager, and was based on the Maiden track of the same name. I'm sure that will turn up in a pub quiz one day, and you'll thank me
Awesome stuff
Spoke to Andy after their Great Escape gig. Top bloke. He said the album was coming out in August.
Poor Peelie :(
He'll be turning in his grave to hear those twunts The Twang are headlining on his stage. A travesty no less
A tip for anyone going: go and see Holy Fuck. You will thank me
Genius
I've heard the album, it is....a Turbonegro album. Nothing more needs to be said. The final track - 'What is Rock?'- is hilarious, I hope to god they play it at Download in a couple of weeks

A truly excellent interview
Falco has always seemed more eloquent than the vast majority of musicians, but this is something else. A hugely intelligent and funny guy. Breaks my heart that FOTL are barely breaking even. This just goes to show that downloading is evil and there is no excuse.
