I didn't realise they were still going

Saw them at Camden Barfly about 5 years ago and they were awfully fucking boring

Organise ??

Doesn't sound like anyone organised any fucking thing !!

Its an April Fool folks

any idiot knows that A&R men don't go to gigs

who defines good ?

the 100 million + who have bought U2 albums, or the 10's of 1000s who have bought albums by the artists who you rate ?

Neither is the correct answer - good is in the eye / opinion of the beholder, and you are entitled to that opinion.

I'm not especially a U2 fan - they've done some good stuff and a higher proportion of shit ( in my opinion )but what gets me is the blatant review that says it's cool to knock them, in fact the review says more about their devoted fans than the band, the film or their music...it is pretentious bollocks in its own right

the review

probably says more about the reviewers ego than anyones, after all it's not "cool" to like U2 is it ?

Seen them once

pretty competent live, which made me listen to the album...wished I hadn't - one good song and the rest incredibly boring

DiS Djs

are we supposed to be impressed ?

go see International Trust

if you do you'll have a fine time

I saw this band last night supporting MSP

they were incredibly bad.

Haven't heard the album but wouldn't want to after last night - sounded like they had 2 half decent songs and a load of rubbish ones, including a lame version of Sheena is a Punk Rocker

one of the worst bands I have ever seen

just horrible

I have a lot of respect for DTTR

in general but the review says it all for me, horrible music by numbers band

definitely agree

last paragraph especially hits the button

Glad you appreciated that tipoff

those tracks haven't been released yet over here but they do sound great - their album "beauty is the first victim" is really good, got mine at HMV

This Et Al

criminally underlooked - deserve far better than they are getting

oh the fickleness of youth scenes !

yes

it did make me wretch but I forgive you, Dogs are truly awful

try this - www.myspace.com/desperado

for me they've channeled their aggression into something that is still fun but doesn't lose that "edge"

Saw them live last year - they were incredible

well put

the cycle needs to be broken

Real punk...like

Gallows / Desperado / Ghost of a Thousand

Good article Gareth

that list was a cracker, a whole bunch of shite bands that are actually very popular.

I think the problem is that Gareth and folk like me likes music, the people who like those bands couldn't give a fuck about music ( although they would argue the opposite ) because all those bands do is distract the shallow minded from their woes - a quick fix - without leaving any sustenance ( or should that be substance ? )

I predict a punk revival

well said Dom, I agree with that

I agree with that entirely, err - ever since the Jam actually

ref The Holy bible

I agree, what JDB did with those lyrics
was pretty extraordinary - so twisted it took me many listens to get my head round them.

Well reasoned post Seymour

Interestin how these days it's bash the Manics time

they 're in their 30's and millionaires - don't expect them to have that teen angst that reached it's pinnacle on the Holy Bible, it can't possibly exist any longer.

What we do have are a handful of songs on all their albums that piss on most of todays current indie scenesters from a great height - and as others have mentioned, each album has one or two songs that are so fucking good it justifies the existence of the whole album

I've got the new album - it's definitely a return to their rock roots. Some of the lyrics ( unfortunately ) are pretty cringe worthy but JDBs voice is immense and the songs are good. At first I was disappointed but it's growing with repeat plays, even features "son of Design for Life" .....and it's bound to get panned in the Press because it's the trendy thing to do and doesn't have that post - rock smell to it.

Diver is well off the mark here

sorry, seen them twice

it is typical post rock - neither more or less original than many of their contemporaries - which for me is starting to wear terribly thin

they are extremely competent musicians, but nothing unique in an increasingly crowded field

they are indeed mightily good

check them out

An interesting post

with a valid point and observation IMO

There are so many people being sucked in by the cycle of flat, passionless music ( Fratellis take a bow ) that much of the "indie scene" is no longer really about the music - it's about taking the lowest common denominator of disposable "fun" music and turning it into money

Bands like The Twang and Fratellis are pub bands at best, somehow that culture has moved into proper touring band venues. The thread about the Pidgeon Detectives was interesting - most posters stated that they weren't that thrilled by the records but "they're good for a fun night out on the pop" kind of mentality

There are just far too many shit bands being given breaks simply because the label ( whatever size or nature ) knows the product will sell to the sheep like masses

Norway is fantastic

but beer is £7 a tinny !!

Looks like a nice setting for a fest

I can't think of a more undeserving band

the songs ramble and are un focussed with some truly terrible musicianship but seems like I am on my own here

Sky Larkin will piss on 'em

true, got it in one

a few automated bleeps from a synth doesn't make something new

the tour says everything really - its for young kids

their bubble will burst once the audience outgrows them in a year or so

it's a good album

TEA are a good band and they don't sound a bit like Muse so I don't know where that shitty comparison comes from.

If anything the album has more nods towards Suede in places than anything.

They've crafted their own sound on a small budget so fair play to 'em.

I've seen them develop from something very ordinary to a band with a lot of real potential in the space of 3 years and this album is far better than expected so best of luck I say, they deserve it, but they clearly won't be everyones kettle of fish.

I agree with you

unfortunately it's all identikit metal for the masses

but I tell you what, Gallows will give their crowd something to think about

strange pairing but if I went I would be leaving after Gallows played

the unsigned bit is untrue

it's a smokescreen by all accounts to maintain their "diy" cred - or so I'm led to believe from various industry types

this is a fantastic album

the review is spot on.

It's not just for "metallers" - there is far more on offer here, but for those with closed minds well that's your loss.

White Pony was good but there's a maturity and confidence to this work that just blows it away.

I've never particularly classed myself as a fan but this is gonna be played for a long long time - GET IT !

beer

Norway is a great place but with expensive beer.

Raz should really have checked out a band called DESPERADO who are awesome - in the Refused / JR Ewing kind of way
