FUNKY-MONKEY
Comments
Masquerade...
A moody and more experimental trip than the first, but it fails to make a lasting impression...
The only true highlight is the hidden bonus track - Masquerade
6/10
Thrilling Idiot!
Took a while to get into this album, but now I have, it's thrilling stuff!
8/10
Panic! Avoid the Disco...
They may well be going down a storm with My Space addicted teens, but i'm already sick of this Las Vegas foursome.
They're going to be massive for all of about five minutes...
A Fever You Can't Sweat Out is a 40-minute blast of catchy shrink wrapped emo poppy punkiness. Avoid!
1/5
The First MUST-HAVE Metal Album of 2006...
This War Will Last Forever is a brutal energy-fuelled beast of a record. If you like your music hard, fast and heavy, look no further!
it's all gonna break
I love this album...
'it's all gonna break' is Awesome!
Stunning Sebastian
Stunning Album!!!
Dull Ashcroft
Uninspiring, weak, predictable and dull...
4/10
Beautiful
I love this album...
'Could We' is the only track that gets on my nerves a bit.
Apart from that, it's a highly enjoyable and relaxing experience!
Great Album
A Great Album and a Good Review...
Mark Lanegan - 9/10
Isobel Campbell - 8/10

Wainwright that is.
Antony And The Johnsons - I Am A Bird Now
Jaw-droppingly good, I can't stop playing it over and over...
If you like Rufus Waignwright, Jeff Buckley, Otis Redding... you need this album.
Oasis - Don't Believe The Truth
Instruction - God Doesn't Care
Certainly worth more than 3/5
System Of A Down - Mezmerize
Although I gave this album 5/5
I can hardly wait for 'Hypnotize'... gotta feeling it's gonna be ace.
Kinesis - You Are Being Lied To
5/5

Everyone needs to listen to this album... Saul's voice is... WOW!
Re: The Sound Explosion - The Sound Explosion
1) I'm not a "closed-minded band groupie" - I never have and never will be a groupie of any band/artist... but hey I am passionate about music and the music that I love... didn't realise that was a crime!
and if you look at all the music I like on my profile, I don't think anyone could call me close minded... I like every kind of music, from rock/indie/punk/metal to soul/jazz/blues/classical and so on...
2) I didn't put up four posts about how terrible the review was. After reading it, I posted twice - saying how I didn't agree with the review and that I thought it was a great album and so on. I then decided to check out some other online reviews of the album and posted links to them up here, so people could take a look at what other people think about the album... is that so wrong?
3) I did NOT call DiS closed minded, like I've already said, DiS is one of my favourite websites and now labels as well. I did write that I thought the reviewer wasn't very open-minded when it came to this record, but that was a rather harsh and was mainly down to the fact that I'd just read two 'very negative' reviews of this album (one in the NME and the one above) and I loved it. Although I expected such a review in the NME, i was shocked to see a negative review on DiS, but I do apologise Mr Driver, I know you're not closed-minded... but I do feel very passionate about this album and band.
Working in the music and media industry myself, I see great bands like this come and go all the time... so when I like something I speak up and hope that what I say encourages other people to have a look/listen themselves!
Peace
Funky Monkey
P.S. I actually quite like the idea of ties tapping, don't know if that makes me weird, but hey! it's better than beng 'so-called' normal isn't it?
I Am Kloot - Gods And Monsters
I love I Am Kloot, but must admit that this new album is a bit of a let down...
that's probably becuase album's one 'Natural History' (Buy Buy Buy) and two 'I Am Kloot' were quite simply stunning?
But I thought I was going to love it and I don't.
Maybe it will grow on me?

Re: The Sound Explosion - The Sound Explosion
It's one of the best records to hit the shops this year... along with new albums from the Marmaduke Duke, Redjetson, The Arcade Fire, Antihero, Martha Wainwright, The Kills, Death From Above 1979, 50 Foot Wave, G.Love, Rufus Wainwright and so on...
And so see the live as soon as you can. Best live show I've seen this year
I think someone else at DiS HQ should review this album, possibly someone a little more open minded.
The Sound Explosion - The Sound Explosion
The Sound Explosion are AWESOME live and kick ass on CD too!
Re: The Sound Explodes through March and April
Not come across them as yet!!!
The Sound Explodes through March and April
Not come across them as yet!!!
Re: The Sound Explodes through March and April
... as is the new We Will Be Pilots mini-album... I really want to see WWBP live, but I'm not sure I'll be able to make it to the London show as well as Plymouth!
Just to let you know that support @ The Phoenix in Plymouth on Thursday March 24th comes in the form of The Bedroom Project & Quarantine.
One of the UK's finest punk rock bands, The Bedroom Project played a storming gig at The Phoenix last month to launch their debut album, 'New Promises Won't Change Things If Your Dreams Were Stolen From Films'. I've not heard the album yet, but these guys are quite simply stunning live.
Quarantine are an exhilarating post hardcore punk band from Ivybridge/Plymouth, fresh from a stunning album launch gig of their own. Not heard the album yet, but they're ace live.
Plymouth Gig info is as follows:
Thursday 24th March 2005
@ The Phoenix, Phoenix Street, Plymouth
Doors: 8-11pm
Entry only £3

The Punk Soul Monkey!
Halo goodbye!
never seen Halo live, so can't comment... but one or two of the bands songs were ok!!!
and as for Kasabian... so much hype and the album is average at best... they have made a few stunning songs... but the album on the whole, is dull!!!!
Downloads! Do Me Bad Things! Brian Wilson!
Another month, another Marquee: London venue offers free nights
BUT I LIVE IN CORNWALL/DEVON!!! SO NOT SO GREAT FOR ME!!!
Fans Of Kate are pretty cool... saw them in Manchester @ In The City on Saturday... the room was so packed, some people couldn't even get through the door. Can't be a bad sign can it?
Imogen Heap? Wow!!! I didn't know she was still around? saw her at a festival what must be 5 years ago or more now! she was fucking great!
She brought an album out (i think it was on almo sounds?! will have to try to find it and give it another spin). It was called i Megaphone if i remember correctly?! great album!!! great singer!!!
Does anyone have any info on Imogen Heap and what she is/has been up to?!!!
~ The Funky Monkey ~
Copperpot Journals Split
Pilots was one of the best albums of 2003 (and last year was a Very Strong year for albums) and although the name was a bit shit, the band were fucking brilliant!!!
Gutted!!!!!
Green Day - American Idiot
... and i thought DiS would have given it a much better rating than 3/5, its got to be worth at least a 4/5!!!
I may have to check out some of the bands earlier records (in case i overlooked some good stuff), seeing how good American Idiot is... as its the only Green Day album i own at the mo.
and as for Nirvana... most def one of the most over-rated bands of all time!!! problem is, they're also one of the most influential :-0
Serafin Gain A Razorlight Christian!
I'm look forward to hearing the new Serafin material - hope its as good as some of the bands early stuff!!!
Mobos: not homophobic, but are they racist?
Having said that, can't they remove Sean Paul as well, just for being absolute shite?
The awesome Toots and The Maytals deserve to win that award! Who decides who wins it anyway? as it would be criminal if Sean Paul won it!
Re: Dashboard Confessional - Vindicated
... it's a good tune!!!
Black Eyed Peas lose instruments in studio blaze
I don't remember anyone dissing them when they released albums one and two, only when album number 3 shot to the top and sold bucket loads.
Why not concentrate more on the positive things in life.
... and lets face it, the Black Eyed Peas are a rather big band that inlude a load of musicians (guitar/bass/drums and so on...), as well as the singers/mcs who front the band.
We've got enough war and negativity in the world without adding to it... come on, they're not that bad!
Goings On Across The Pond - Republicans ban music and Missy encourages voting
Everyone should encourage people to vote for the Democrats, anything to get Bush and his hawks out of power...
and lets face it, doesn't Kerry play guitar or something? may not be any good at it, but at least he has a love for music... which has gotta be better than Bush's love for war hasn't it?
big up Babyface, Wyclef, Eve, Mary and the mighty Missy for speaking up!!!
Banning RATM and Outkast from the library should be made a criminal offence!!! along with being a republican!!!
Re: The Bees - Free The Bees
Its utter retro crap (probably why the NME loves it so much)!!!
The Bees do have a certain charm about them, as do some of the songs, but overall this album really is pants...
Spend the tenner on beer, or better still an album u'll actually enjoy!!!
Re: The Once Over Twice - Special Moments To Detonate Themselves
It's fucking brilliant!!!
Plus they're one of the hardest working/gigging rock bands around, so as soon as you've bought the album you best go check em out live!!!
Re: DiS Summer 'Brave New Ideas' UK Tour - Coming To Your Town?
Now about Cornwall and Devon!
People live for music down this way, yet rarely get a chance to see so many of the great new bands, as they rarely venture south of Bristol/Cardiff!
But much respect to those bands who do/have played down this way lots or that have dates booked soon - including Reuben, Ash, Hundred Reasons, Hell is for Heroes, Feeder, Biffy Clyro, Million Dead, thisGIRL, A, Amplifier, Terrorvision, Katastrophy Wife, Fun Lovin Criminals, Reef and Haven.
Kid Rock: Vote Bush!
It makes you think...
Bush has Kid Rock as a fan...
The Tories have Jim Davidson in their camp...
and UKIP have Kilroy talking bollocks on their side...
It says a lot about the way these people want this world to go don't you think?
Me, I'm off in another direction... I may not no where I'm going... but any direction is better than that lot!!!
(Band) Red Alert! See KaitO, and chums, for free!
but No Cornwall or Devon dates...
same old story!!!
Re: The Ordinary Boys
... just avoid the album like the plague...
8/12 tracks are pure bollocks!!!
good tracks =
Maybe Someday
Little Bitch (Specials cover)
Robots & Monkeys (The Last track on the album and last track they done live on Wednesday in Newquay... Ace Live Song / with extended Hendric Style Guitar work live)
and i can't remember what else i though was pretty good!!!
TV On The Radio - Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes
I actually give this album 5/5, 10/10, 100/100... i know that's a lot praise... but shit... this album and band deserve it...!!! Everyone should own a copy of this album (and the bands debut EP from last year for that matter)... if you don't already... go out and buy one now!!!
TV On The Radio are true innovators... add to that the fact that they look extremely funky and are 100% unique... i mean you really can't get much better!!!
Walkmen: UK Tour
What the hell is wrong with all these bands booking agents?

In Photos: Monotonix @ Hector's House, Brighton
In Photos: The Specials @ Hammersmith Apollo, London
In Photos: Camden Crawl Launch Event @ The Blues Kitchen, London
In Photos: La Roux @ Shepherds Bush Empire, London
FUN?
I like fun music... but this album does nothing for me. It's not the worst album i've heard this year, but it's no far off.
