I think this point ties in with the Yuck album too. Originality is essential in new, exciting music but something with obvious reference points shouldn't be dismissed out of hand. F&THS are an amazing gateway band, hopefully many of their fans will go on to discover Orange Juice, Billy Childish et al in the way that Yuck fans might pick up Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr records.

*Note, this point does not apply to whatever The Enemy decide to rip-off next.

THIS IS AN OUTRAGE

No, just kidding. Any list with Perfume Genius, Yeasayer and LCD is a good one by me. Now for the real purpose of these lists, new music. I'm off to spend the afternoon with Deftones and Emeralds.

Not sure what you guys are talking about

the two words I had in mind were "You're crazy" ;)

I think I was trying to make the point that

Egyptian Hip-Hop = a poor mans Late Of The Pier.

I don't get the download/ duvet pun

Someone explain it to the slow and stupid?!

Well that's my honest taste

It's not like I didn't enjoy the records from Grizzly Bear, Pains of Being Pure @ Heart, Bat For Lahes, FOTL, Dananana, Sky Larkin, Fever Ray and Girls too.

My top 5 are

1. The XX- xx
2. The Horrors- Primary Colours
3. Yeah Yeah Yeah's- It's Blitz
4. The Maccabees- Wall Of Arms
5. Jamie T- Kings and Queens

6-25 are on here- http://itsgettingboringbythesea.blogspot.com/

As fun as bits of this are

it's essentially a pointless record.

Arctic Monkeys are one of, if not the, most critically acclaimed bands of the decade

and are working class in every sense (Background, fan base, musical style).

This is the best Weezer album in recent memory

not a grand claim per se but it's way better than Red, Make Believe and Maladroit.

Jack Lawrence is his name

although he looks a bit like Minty's girlfriend on Eastenders atm.

No

It's like something off Crystal Maze. HELP!

Basshunter looks like a walking STD

Also, you need to change to video for Implosion Quintet. HTM-HELL.

Shocked not to see The Manics and to a lesser extent Lily Allen

The Horrors won't win, they'll be like Burial- tipped by all but falling at the end to *PUTS NECK ON LINE* Glasvegas or La Roux.

Can someone explain Speech Debelle to me?

I like this album a lot

some of the production is a bit busy but there's a lot of passion in the songs and her voice sounds great throughout.

I like all these acts

this was a good piece and to a lot of people the likes of Lightspped and Emmy will be gateway artists leading young kids into the 'proper' stuff the purists above me sit in their room being boring too.

That review is very short sighted

it seems to suggest everything that defines her as who she is needs stripping away. Obviously Taylor Swift is superior to Regina. Haha.

Great song writer

not so great singer.

Dare I suggest that this 'breakdown' will help make Wavves unknown name well known

and promote his album pretty nicely? No such thing as bad publicity etc etc.

worth a shot

a) Saint Dymphna

Brilliant stuff

I might get my Mum to blog about Michael Ball and Donny Osmond.

band. of. the. year

Metric- Fantasies

appears to be missing.

Didn't know he went to LIPA

this and Eugene McGuiness clawing back the credibility The Wombats ruined.

That M-Bar song is great

he's done it with Kyp from TVOTR and I think Ed Droste is a fan too.

I've done something similar

only not including tracks from albums already released in 2009. So singles, remixes, b-sides and free downloads mainly.

Very excited to hear this

Ask YYY's why they ditched the guitars

I bet they *Love* that question. A true original! On a serious note though, I'd like to know about Karen O's proposed solo album.

Probably

my favourite album of the year so far.

At first I was a little underwhelmed

not by the disco stompers but by the balldy type tracks. However 'Hysteric' is possibly my favourite YYY's song now and Runaway and Skeletons are not far behind. It's an astoundingly good record imo.

Is that the guy from Grammatics in the first picture?

I saw him driving his car at Leeds Festival last year- he looked like a Thunderbird.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs now travel everywhere via camel

hence the 3 days needed to get to London from Manchester.

I like the riff from 'Get On Your Boots'

That is all.

My most anticipated album of 2009

I think it will be excellent.

I like Twitter and it was really noticeable how many more hits I got on my blog when I started promoting it on there.

However I hate the word 'Tweet'so much. Also I don't think anyone really cared that much about the day to day activities of Philip Schofield, Rob Brydon, Danny Wallace and Graham Linehan before so why do they now?

I await Judith Chalmers arrival with baited breath.

I'm guessing Posdnuos was unavailable to make that video

or is he just a floating pair of lips these days?

Remixes of '08

1. Santogold- You'll Find A Way (Switch & Sinden)
2. Passion Pit- Sleepyhead (Landau Wake Up)
3. Friendly Fires- Paris (Aeroplane ft Au Revoir Simone)
4. M.I.A- Paper Planes- (DFA)
5. White Lies- Death (Crystal Castles)
6. Lykke Li- I'm Good I'm Gone (Metronomy)
7. Mystery Jets- Hideaway (Diplo)
8. MGMT- Electric Feel (Justice)
9. Ladyhawke- Back Of The Van (Van She Tech)
10. Kid Cudi- Day 'N' Nite (Crookers)
11. The Kills- Cheap And Cheerful (Sebastian)

Very good list- one of the most rounded I've seen

with a nice contentious winner to stoke some debates. The Kills deserve that #9- it's a brilliant album.

It's weird how Foals seem to have fallen out of favour to a degree. Compare Januarys hype and reviews to now; I haven't seen them do very well in any of the lists so far. It's my number 1 thoug so maybe I'm biased.

Support slot-

Kaiser Chiefs
