only joking
I don't think they're from or hang out in South London...
"South London four-piece"
what the fuck is that about?
this reminds me of when they had similar articles to this in Kerrang!
back in the day, and they'd ask someone like the singer of Machine Head how the forthcoming year would be and he'd be like...
"This year's going to be totally killer!!! It's going to be totally rad and we're going to tour all year and go to places that we never ever thought we'd make it to, so I'm totally stoked!!"
I'm a bit Okkervil fan
and Sheff has always seemed safe. Did he not use to write for Pitchfork or maybe still does?
I'm pretty sure
that I love this band.
this feels like some sort of April Fool
should be an interesting listen and picking Albini is a genius move. Can't help feeling that the last 10 years of them being shit will be difficult to rescind.
btw
just to reiterate what has been said above, in terms of content and design this site has declined massively in the past month or so.
I've seen these guys live
a few times in the last year and they've been consistently really good, definitely one of the best bands in the UK at the moment. I'd be deeply surprised if this album is only worthy of a 5/10 based on the songs I've heard them play live, unless the production is really fucked or something.
good album
I voted for 'Curses.'
went there twice
was alright, bit rubbish - plenty of crap people there. Drink prices took the piss.
it was Arc Arsenal
I'm pretty sure.
the guitarist is awesome
and they all seem like really good musicians. The Truck gig was amazing, a complete revelation: at one point there was a slam-pit stretching across the barn, until they brought the heavies in to calm everyone down.
are they supporting Foals on their big UK tour in October?
that would be wicked, have already got a ticket for the Brixton Academy gig. I reckon they could pull off a big stage.
oh yeah
and they make Tim Harrington's antics look really lame.
Monotonix
are pretty much the best live band I've ever seen ever. In fact, I can't believe they do that every night. I don't feel sorry for the person who tidies up, I feel sorry for the drummer who seems to get twatted with a bin at every gig they play. They're all going to hurt themselves at some point, especially the singer who I thought was going to jump off the ULU balcony. Looks like they're not playing the UK again for ages - this is a bad thing.
Artrocker
seems slightly ropey and reminds me of the sort of 'scene' stuff I don't really like, but fair enough to them for getting their own magazine off the ground. Some of the writing and overall content on this site can be a bit dodgy, but a lot of it is good and the community aspect seems unprecedented.
Ultimately though, in terms of editorial quality - Pitchfork is many leagues above both publications.
I'd give it 7/10
but I think this review is pretty accurate overall and well expressed. bravo!
...
strange piece. Cap'n Jazz definitely aren't math, neither are Rothko, The Locust, Botch or Foals. Really surprised Sweep aren't mentioned.
Cassadaga
certainly wasn't poor, but it wasn't as good as the five Bright Eyes albums which preceded it (which were all amazing).
This seems slightly strange. Is this the end of Bright Eyes? Has he really fallen out with Mike Mogis? It also seems a bit odd that it's released on Merge and not Saddle Creek.
why the backlash?
the Roundhouse is surely about their level?
the album is awesome
has really exceeded my expectations. All of the songs are good and could all be singles.
Strange to think that less than three years ago I saw them first on at the Spreadeagle supporting Birds of Paradise.
also
I hate the fact they've got dressed up for their photo-shoot. The stylist, photographer and costume hire for that shoot must have eaten into their £60,000 advance.
I'm sure they're all nice guys though.
I don't really have any sympathy
and the rationale 'anyone would have done it' and the reasoning 'we got on the show by accident' doesn't really mean anything. Fair enough, they saw the opportunity to quit their jobs which a lot of bands would take - but loads of bands would realise it's undoubtedly a short-term thing and a compromise. I can't remember any of their music, but their cover of 'Video Killed The Radio Star' was shit and unimaginative.
Oh well, at least they're not the Bad Robots.
that fucking tank supporting?
that's well funny.
...
why are they inviting a backlash just by announcing a tour? I reckon they'll end up being three nights at Brixton academy.
about ten years ago
a friend of mine, who dresses completely normally / inoffensively, but used to like mainstream guitar music like RHCP, Nirvana, Offspring, Nirvana, etc and go to rock clubs was mugged and beaten by a guy wearing an Offspring hoody. Mid-beating / mugging he said, 'but you like The Offspring' in surprise at the musical taste of his attacker.
great interview
best band around at the moment.
Anton Newcombe
fantasy friend.
I'd love to read this review
but that Jack Daniels advert is too fucking annoying and I can't get rid of it. I recommend the advertising lay-out of this site maybe gets reviewed a little.
I love Destroyer.
cheers!
but you've listed it as Monday 3rd March (tonight). It's Thursday 13th March.
any chance of listing these gigs
I've emailed the listings people loads of times to get the Bardens gig listed, but still it remains unlisted. Nightmare. Please help me out: it's DAN, then Agaskodo Teliverek, Maths Class. Thursday 13th March, £6 in. Doors: 8pm. Tickets: http://www.wegottickets.com/event/26629 Whammy.
math rock?
all their songs sound like they are in 4/4. This is by no means an insult, but I just don't think it can really be described as 'math.'
to be honest
these secret / low-key and short-notice but incredibly expensive gigs always seem to me as if he's skint and needs money quickly to buy some crack / smack. If he was really into keeping it real he'd do it for a fiver. I'm 95% sure I'm right.
christ
can't imagine how depressing it must be to want to pay £20 to go to the Rhythm Factory to see Doherty play.
It's a ridiculous price - why is it never mentioned that he completely exploits his fans?
yeah, slightly strange review
at times Les Savy Fav are musically incredible and Seth Jabour is an amazing guitarist. In fact, I think sometimes their music / songs get ignored because all the focus is on Harrington.
they're playing at Bardens
Thursday March 13th. £5 in.
RATM to support (TBC).
What has happened to Song 1 Puzzle?
what?
1.30am-3.30am?
middle of the night?
proplus?
I think
it has sold about one million in total all around the world, which is alright - but it hasn't exactly set the world on fire.
The question is: now that they've reformed, headlined festivals, doing the arena tour...what's next? Another album? If so, unless it's a massive return to form, then it will sell less, the shows will be smaller, etc. It's quite depressing in a way.
Will still definitely be at the O2 though.
oasis?
.
"tired, lazy people standing around doing nothing"
that's the Nottingham mentality for me, not just the behaviour of gig-goers.
I left Nottingham
three years ago, never been back. Shittest city in England bar none; probably the only city in the world where Arcade Fire have ever been bottled.
new addition to the Bardens bill
it will now be:
This Aint Vegas
Lovvers
Favours For Sailors
Corker. £5
Lovvers
are also playing at the Bardens gig.
are Spunge still going?
I hope not - they're terrible!
awesome band
they'll be missed, but at the same time it's probably a good time for them to leave with dignity.
Seemed as if they had the biggest crowd of the weekend in the punk tent at Reading.
I was joking
and just seeing how people reacted to some nonsense.
I don't think there's any album ever made by any band that is better than 'Pinkerton.'
A Weezer b-sides / unreleased compilation album could be incredible; not a great fan of Sugar Booger though.

how fucking amazing
a band to have faith and believe in.
and 'You Need Satan More Than He Needs You' is the song of the year.
Falco reminds me a bit of Joey Barton in that picture above though; I know he's a Barcode, but I think that's a bit much.
