The sad thing is...

...that Foals were an odds-on favourite to win the Mercury right up until the point that they released their rather disappointing album. What went wrong? It just doesn't hang together. Ah well.

Don't sweat it -

- who wants to win an award that M People can win anyway?

First night in Manchester

I saw one of the Manchester gigs and I thought is was a superb gig - apart from the end.

20 minutes of violent noise. Yes, I've never heard - or felt - anything like it; but really... hadn't it made it's point after five minutes?

It's not that I object to the fact that I thought blood was going to come out of my ears. Or that many people felt compelled to have their fingers in their ears. Or that a significant amount of people chose to leave. It's that Shields and co are capable of doing such fantastically interesting things with a wall of sound that it was a profound disappointment for them to end on something so monumentally BORING.

As I say, the gig was superb, but the end was just self-indulgent nonsense.

Live in Manchester

I thought they were shockingly bad. They're great recorded, but a live act they most definitely are not.

That's outrageous.

I find this comment incredibly distressing and think it should be removed from the board. I mean, really, who the fuck doesn't know how to spell 'they're'?

Saw them live...

... this evening, and they're definitely better live than on record. The tweeness is balanced out with more muscularity and clout.

I loved their early stuff...

... but Jesus, they've lost their way with this haven't they?

Working For...

...A Nuclear Free City I mean

Why not?

It's an excellent album.

1 out of 10???

That makes me want to listen to this more than most CDs reviewed here...

But the tout thing...

By all means campaign to stop the reselling of tickets for profit. But don't say you want a cut of the touts' money. That's like saying you abhor prostitution but while it exists you want to take a cut from the pimps.
