E's book was £2 in Fopp for ages

Might still be, in some shops.
Then again, it's well worth cover price (or even the £11-ish I spent on it. whatever.).

It's odd; bands like Eels, Low and Fog are so wonderfully understated that it took me years to realise how much I adored their sound. So, hurrah for Hombre Lobo.

Autechre

Am I predictable?

I think I must be.

London is not the same as Cardiff

Some day I'm going to write a science fiction series and set it in Vancouver, then film it in Cardiff, and vice versa.

See how they both fucking like it.

wow

Just wow. Hopefully there'll be plenty of crowd-pandering and playing stuff from An Electric Storm.
Partly because I don't own any of the later albums.

Kontakte should be exciting, too.

Arfie is very pleased

The unfortunate upshot of this is that it makes it look like whinging works.

Volume 1 arrived today

I can't wait for volume 2.

And I hope to goodness there'll be a massive collection of Delia's work released once her tapes have all been sorted out, too.

ha

I don't mind that there's no Cambridge date, nor that the last one was cancelled. It's a shame, but not the end of the world.

What I object to is the promise of a rescheduled date and the subsequent failure of one to arrive.

Similarly, if you tell me you can juggle twelve ming vases at once and then you later turn out to have no arms, it's not the lack of vase-juggling I take exception to, but the claim that you could when, really, you knew far better than I did that it would never happen. Then it just feels insincere.

If you aren't certain you can keep a promise, don't make one.

yes

They sit at home counting money all day, and only tour when they need to buy a new yacht.

Idiot.

UK passport?

You racist bastards.

not that far?

It's a bastard to get back from, particularly after a gig. So, no.

It's the lack of rescheduled date that irks me. Given that one was promised.

fuck that

They had to cancel their Cambridge date in March, and said they'd reschedule. And they didn't.

Now there isn't even a Cambridge date on the whole fucking tour. Great.

probably funnier though

I was just saying to one of my chalet-mates yesterday that I wished Patton would hurry up and confirm Squarepusher. So, nice.

Since he seems to be spying on me, I might as well come out and ask - Mike, how about Doseone or Amon Tobin? Thanks.

BAND IN LA WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENS THERE

Please stick to just telling us when bands do a Radiohead. Thanks.

you're an idiot

Ten is the best album EVAR. The s/t is bloody good, but flows like a collection of EPs bolted together. Strange, that.

A) cLOUDDEAD

Those were some days.

Dirty Heat was recent-ish

and that was good.

BOMB BOMB! BOMB THE - er, Rise! Rise!

a decade?

Did you somehow miss the reformation, tour, demoed new material and re-break-up a couple of years back, then?

"if it was someone who no one reli new about or just a randomer, not someone famous, you wudnt give

But he ISN'T famous.
Nor was he at the time.

Other than that, though, a flawless and well-resented argument.

self-parody

innit

are OOIOO

named after that bit in the Doctor Who theme tune?

why

does everyone call Today "The Today Programme"? etc. etc.

I didn't catch it, since mornings are anathema to me these days. What was said?

I dunno

I think of EP7 as an EP, since it doesn't flow like one of their albums, and I call their fifth one LP5 because 'Untitled' would be too close to 'Untilted' for people to know what the fuck I was on aboot.

Quaristice I'm not sure about - it used to take me until the next album came out before I could get into one of theirs, but Untilted only took a few months and I'm hoping this one will be the same. I'm wondering whether or not to focus on the Versions disc first, since that seems to be more familiar ground.

why

does everyone call Tri Repetae "Tri Repetae++"? Tri Repetae++ has another disc - Tri Repetae is just the album itself. Hooray for getting all your information online.

Why not a b-sides box set?

I'd be happy enough for them to wring out a bit of cash from me for that, since I can't be fagged to buy all their singles.

Easy money. And something I want.

a few years back

I was at a Youthmovies gig and some drunk midget trampled all over my feet. My friend then told me it was their mate Yannis out of The Ed Fitz.

So I always had the impression he was a prick, too.

But I'm really not one to talk.

not as a first purchase, no

But the ones from Confield onwards are far more impressive than the first four, even though the earlier ones are far easier to get into. I find Tri Repetae to be a little underdeveloped, but only because I've become accustomed to their later stuff.

It used to take me until the next ae album came out to get into the previous one, but I was young and stupid.

That said, all eight of their albums (and, frankly, ep7) would probably be in my hundred favourite albums, so the order of preference doesn't really matter. I even love Incunabula, loon that I am.

start with LP5

Then everything else they've ever done, in any order, pretty much.

Best music I've ever heard, bar none. They've never released a piece of music I haven't loved (at least, as Autechre).

Sad, I know, but they are that good.

No.

No Fog.
No Low.
No Burial.

=> No vote.

or rather

under what definition of "literally"?

"literally, adv. not at all literal whatsoever"

ie. the most commonly used definition.

I expected a lot from this one

and on the first few listens it didn't deliver, but within a couple of days I realised that actually I was a moron. True fact.

Probably my favourite album this year.

Also, Andy Broder says he and Yoni intend to make another album together once they can synchronise their schedules. Given their individual album-on-album improvement and how good the first one was I am terrified of how good it would be.

yes, but

I've had your grammar.

gneiss

Seems Cambridge is finally getting a decent load of gigs, etc. I smile.

More tour

February
7 Dublin Crawdaddy

April
16 Oxford Zodiac
17 Cambridge Junction
18 Brighton Concorde 2

I must be the only person not to hate Koko. It's grand if you're right up front, I find. After this, I'll have seen my three favourite bands there, which is nice. It would be four, but I was abroad when Autechre played. Balls.

Anyway, hurrah for the Dublin date.

nor I

Though Since We Last Spoke was a shocking disappointment.

But still, Deadringer was suitably legendary for me to be excited as hell about this one anyway.

fuckin a

I've been waiting for this album to materialise since 1999 or so. Him and his talent.

dang

Shame I'm not back in Cambridge until the week after that.
Still, saw him on monday evening. Incredible. He did a duet with Ed Harcourt, and all. That was a jolly good night.

four-piece?

There's six of them.

alas

Hope of the States have pulled out.

I didn't say that

I said that to my mind there was nothing that they've done that was better. So yes, within the limited field of Radiohead-related recordings, it is at an extremity.

However, the wording "that's a bit extreme" does indeed imply that there's something wrong with it. Which is the wording of a twunt.

no, otterfeatures, it isn't

An extreme opinion would be along the lines of "we should bomb the irish". Mine was an opinion about the relative merits of pieces of music.

Did I not mention something about perspective?

spot on

It's a chilling song, it really is (particularly so if you believe he was murdered, as Thom seems to).

Astounding.

no, it isn't

I quite clearly put that forward as an opinion, what with "to my mind" having pride of place at the beginning of the sentence.

I also think that each RH album has been better than the last. Would you like to criticise me for that too, while you're in the mood?

Jesus, get some fucking perspective anyway.

what rot

To my mind, there's nothing on the album - or indeed on any RH album - that's better than Harrowdown Hill.

the boat race

Was a nasty wee dive. I really miss it. Yuppie bastards.

8?

Piss off, it's better than that.

of course I do, you fcking pillock

Listen to Seconds, Boxes for Particle, 553, etc. - it's quite obviously IDM.

no

Of course, when they're not making IDM they're not, but when they are they are.

Or do you just resent the suggestion that Warp have given up bothering?

they really aren't

While their singles [and, indeed, album] are far more mainstream than they used to be, the b-sides (particulalrly for this one) are astounding.

Amongst other things, they're the finest IDM band since Warp gave up bothering.

Thud

So this means Kill Your Heroes will be delayed? Goshtarnit.

well...

I saw the first four on that list, coincidentally enough. If something so inane counts as a coincidence.

My top five were;

1. Youthmovies
1. Buck 65
3. 65daysofstatic
4. Foals
5. The Walkoff

Proper quality.
