M.I.A., but not for much longer - June tour
Listened to her album to see what the fuss was, wasn't majorly keen but it wasn't bad. She's a bit 'token-Indie-kid's-urban-act' though (have you seen how the sodding NME plug her? Poor lass). Those drainpipe-jeaners have to look 'broad minded'.
Sleater-Kinney get rocking in August
Finally, I will see them! I've only been into this band for a year but the ICA date sold out and now I have my chance, hurrah! Yet to have heard the new album yet, must investigate...
The Duke Spirit - Cuts Across The Land
I only heard the album at work yesterday and bought it at the end of the day, and i'm quite impressed. I admit I was taken it by the female vocals and bluesy riffs (i'm a bit of a sucker for Harvey) but i'm genuinely liking it. A lot of my colleagues dismissed it as 'another bland record from another bland band' but I disagree - i'm hyper critical of 'new' bands at the moment (sick of Maximo Park, The Futureheads et al anyone?) that are kicking out the 80s image and angular guitars - this band at least have a bit of raw excitement. Ok ok, i'm biased as a female, liking female fronted bands/solo singers (it DOES help to stand them out from the crowd though) but this band seem to be the best of the bunch of the 'new guitar generation' (even though as i'm typing, Lion Rip seems a little underwhelming even for an upbeat number boring) not that I want to generalise and lumber them in with The Bravery and all that wank - but it's SO easy to do these days. Too much image, not enough substance - it's all going to backfire soon thanks to those buff Strokes boys.
New bands tent announced for Reading/Leeds
Sleater Kinney at the new bands tent? Should be renamed the 'you emo sluts haven't heard of me' tent. The only half decent band to play Reading (along with the Go Team)
The Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
Yeah I get wafts of Talking Heads whilst listening. Strangely, I never feel like listening to the album but when I stick it on I remember how good it is. It's not really a record you stick on for quick fix hits. It's more of a lay back and take it all in album. Good stuff.
The Independent pick top 10 venues - what're yours?
Bush Hall is an amazing little venue. Saw Feist there last year. Everyone was just sitting about cross legged sipping wine enjoying the music. More gigs should be like that...
Bloc Party announce Somerset House show
So is that confirmed or not? Me thinks a visit to Miss Orton would be nice.
Go see the Rakes play in a record shop
Saw them support Bloc Party. How average! Wannabe Ian Curtis movements and four chord crapness.
Interpol do festival warm-ups
Sheffield and Manchester? What about us lot down South? And don't give me any of that, 'bands always play in London!' rubbish!
be your own PET - Damn Damn Leash
I was thinking of importing the home made one but not sure how much it will come to. Where is the one on XL being sold over here? Me thinks the homemade version may be worth the purchase.
Closing In On Sleep...
Wow SOMEBODY studied Blake's Songs of Innocence and Experience before they formed a band!
Phoenix release live LP and head to the States
Finally, news about a band OTHER than those featuring Pete wanker Doherty. Hurrah!
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Played an advance copy of the album at work today and all of us budding BP fans were slightly disappointed. It's not bad, it's just not as good as we hoped. I'd heard the EP as well as Like Eating Glass, and to be honest, the album goes downhill from then. It has it's moments, it's a great little album up to around the 6th track, then there were a few duds (and a This Is Our Emergency rip off!), gets good again, goes downhill again - it's a bit of a rollercoaster. None of the tracks are BAD, but there are notable fillers. How could you say So Here We Are is forgettable? I think it's charming and 'shimmery' is exactly the right word to describe it, as somebody said. I'll still be buying it, but it doesn't scream album of the year to me.
Long-View, Delays & Johnny Panic for Portsmouth charity gig
Tsunami chic, naturellement! 'Save the world' bandwagon...
Bloc Party add April London and Scottish dates
Are you 100% sure PGMG are supporting, at BOTH Astoria dates? I like Bloc Party but i'm only really arsed if I get 2 bands for the price of 1! Haven't seen PGMG since nearly a year.
Where'd you read this info?

Interpol add extra UK date
Hmm would be slightly annoying if they suddenly added a date at say Concorde 2 in Brighton. I bought tickets off lastminute.com the other week for the 9th as they were sold out everywhere else. Glad i'm going on the Saturday though as I don't have to work the next day.
Killers told about single and gig
They sound like Hundred Reasons (voice wise) and are totally overrated. I think Mr Brightside is a good tune, but the album goes downhill as tracks progress. Probably won't be around this time next year. Boring at V as well.
Interpol tour....again!
April's too far away! But better than nowt!
Musical hero John Peel dies age 65
Changed my MSN name to 'John Peel (1939-2004)' and only 3 people I know have commented. I can't believe how ignorant some people are. What a legend. RIP
More Muse at Earls Court
My friend only got seated tickets and he went on at 9 weirdly enough. Oh well, i'll still enjoy the show. I fucking hate The Zutons but maybe they'll suprise me live. I wonder what other band will be supporting as it says + Special Guests?
Bad stuff - Death Cab pull dates, HHH guitarist quits
Supporting Blink? Supporting Blink?!
Cat Power Goes Celluloid
Sittin' on a ruin... ahh good memories
UK singles sales reach an all-time low
Watching the 80s Hall Of Fame it occured to me that although there's always been 'manufactured' pop, which of course really took off in the 80s with the likes of Mel & Kim, there were still a lot of 'musicians' who were labelled as 'Pop stars' (see George Michael, Prince... wrote their own songs, but at the end of the day, were Pop music). I know the genre 'Pop' covers everything from Atomic Kitten to Paul Weller, but the likes of the latter seem to be taking off more and more recently. I had my childhood in the 90s so of course I can't say what it was like in the 70s and 80s, but I DO work in a music shop and the amount of 40 somethings requesting Tom Baxter, Damien Rice, Katie Melua and even Maroon 5 and The Music is shocking. What would this age group have bought in the mid 90s? Blur and Oasis? Or was this the youngsters? I don't know. Urban music IS Pop music. Girls Aloud and Blue are only liked by 10 year olds and extremely sad 30 somethings (although the former do make catchy tunes that are cheesy, light singalong songs I confess). Teens and 20s seem to be into Eric Prydz and Usher, or for the more 'intellectual' there's Keane and Snow Patrol. Metal is dead. R&B is mainstream. 'Jazz' is the new Easy Listening. Indie is the new Dad music. Pop is dying on it's arse. Only children buy singles at work.
Finally, I NEVER hear Girls Aloud on Radio 1. It's always Scissor Sisters and Keane, so HOW do they get so high in the charts? It must be Music videos and local stations that are becoming increasingly popular. When Radio 2 is plugging Feist and Amy Winehouse you KNOW something's changed.

Interpol - Antics
I bought this album yesterday and know my way around it now. By far the best tracks are Evil, Narc, Take You On A Cruise, Public Pervert and A Time To Be So Small. None of the tracks are particularly BAD, but some are more forgettable (see Not Even Jail, Length Of Love). I can't believe I don't even have the CD of TOTBL, I only have it copied to my PC. It is by far one the best albums i've ever heard in a long while, and i'm not one for modern 'bands', i'm more of a solo artist lover.
My Vitriol: Return in '04 (Still Signed to East West!)
It's been 2 years since any activity. I just saw their album stacked up on the shelf in my room (yes, no room for them in the rack anymore) and thought i'd come on and find out if anything's happening. Nope. I was a massive fan and now I don't even count them in my list of musical fancies.
They're probably working at Tesco's Express to bring in the pennies.

You good, good people: Embrace save V
Had no idea that Jet had pulled out. Wondered why I could hear Embrace coming from the stupidly overcrowded NME stage (heaving for Scissor Sisters). Review of V anyone? Thought it was brilliant. Faithless were damn impressive, same with Amy Winehouse, Phoenix, Kosheen, Massive Attack... Pixies obviously too. Sunday I noticed more 'rock kids' about - mostly 12 year olds in Pixies shirts annoyingly slagging off Badly Drawn Boy down the front. Magnet was a treat too. Kelis was a disappointment - half an hour late, couldn't even hear her for the backing singer! Keane = dreary.
The Bees - Free The Bees
Their first album is brilliant, a breathe of fresh air - then I heard this at work and was so disappointed. It sounds so musky and bland, what happened? It sounds like The fucking-Coral-fucking-Zutons country barn dancing shite. Noooo! Songs like Sunshine from the first album are amazing.
Re: Avril Lavigne - Happy Ending
God I sounded like a cunt in that post. It's not like i'm encouraging her to let the RAWK flow, it's not like i'm a fan of RAWK... infact i'd rather listen to this single a million times on repeat before I peeled the price sticker off some trashy emo band's flame decorated capsule of tosh. Good old Avril, I respect her a lot more than punk pop bands playing the Concrete Jungle Stage.
Avril Lavigne - Happy Ending
Rather *embarrassingly*, I do quite like this song. Yes, the little cum wagon annoys the tits off me quite frankly, but it doesn't stop the tune from being rather top. I think she's given the stripey knee-length socks a rest and is really letting the RAWK flow \m/
Phoenix - Alphabetical
They're playing Shep. Bush? Wow. I saw them at Mean Fiddler a few months ago with the brilliant Feist in support.
Re: Rappers are, like, SO cool...
GLC are 'the best' because they are NME's latest darlings and token 'Urban' act, they'll probably appear in next weeks poster pull-out alongside Pete Doherty.
GLC's album will be just above Outkast's latest album in every Indie kid's cd rack. Bless.

The Mercury? Predictable? Surely not...
Not a big fan of The Zutons from what i've heard. Dear Catasrophe Waitress has been out for almost a year i'm sure, brilliant album however. I should imagine Keane, Franz Ferdinand or Joss Stone will win. Where the bloody hell is PJ Harvey as well? Ok Uh Huh Her isn't a masterpiece but cut the lady some slack for being a cool-ass-motherfucker. It's only been out for a month or so I guess.
PJ Harvey to tour UK
Ditto, exactly.
The Vines pull festival dates. Bothered
Lets add Som Wardner to that list.
What a shame, bless My Vitriol, what IS going on with them?! Never really got into The Vines. We played their new one at work when it came out, I liked the first song and the rest was a bit pants sorry to say. They always seemed a little bit shouty.

TITP: Bowie pulls out, Libs don't
After hearing about Dom's dad and now actual rumours of Muse pulling out of TITP, is it just gonna be that festival? I mean they're playing V but that's nearly 2 months away.
Cat Power To Release DVD
I was a bit worried about the Shepherd's Bush gig a few weeks ago but it turned out great, Chan was really ace and funny.
Television: June Dates incl. Glasto
They sound nothing like Television, i was merely slating the comparison. Fucking wooden music.
Television: June Dates incl. Glasto
Patti Smith, now Television... Proto punk is coming back it seems. Of COURSE these new dates haven't been spurred on by the sucess of a certain band by the name of THE STROKES... Sickening, The Strokes are painfully average.
Patti in July, Patti in July, Patti in July
Patti in July, Patti in July, Patti in July
FCUK Your Radio - Fashion Over The Airwaves
French Connection clothes are fab, dispite the 'Gary' culture sporting 'too drunk to fcuk' t-shirts. I prefer FC to the oh-so-retro-high-street look of Topshop, where you end up paying about £50 for a 'vintage' t-shirt. Lord.
Pj Harvey: New Album 'Uh Huh Her' Details
Bollocking Brodie-dykey-Armstrong?! I think not! Grr don't get me started... Good ol' Pol is here to stay!
Pj Harvey: New Album 'Uh Hu Her' Details
Oh lord how i've waited for this moment, but i'm not so sure about the title of the album?!! Pah! Come on Polly and play some London shows...
V adds Muse, Strokes and Jazz-Ponce to Bill
Nah i think V is pretty good, ok so it might be the 30-something Festival but least it's better than the parched flat field of Reading and isn't full of wankers in Green Day t-shirts... i'll probably go along myself, worth it to see The Pixies and Primal Scream. Would like to go to Glasto but i've got exams around that time...
PJ Harvey: Album's Complete
I love her and i can't wait. Roll on a London show!
Britney Spears - Toxic
This song is brilliant.
Jinkies! Scooby Doo 2 Soundtrack is, Like, Totally Cool
Best track is 2 Unlimited by far
Radiohead: Annie Lennox Bad, Alex Parks Good
Peter Andre anyday over Busted
Andre Heads to No. 1 and Singles Chart Dies on Arse
I work in a music shop and it's interesting how the top albums (Katie Melua, Jamie Cullum, Norah) are all their despite having no #1 singles - it's all down to Radio 2 for getting hip and trendy, and good on them! Despite this fake 'jazz' appealing to the middle-aged folks, i'd rather listen to that than bloody miserable Keane....
See The Cure For Only Two Grand
The cool old Cure come from Crawley aswell, just half an hour down the road from me, where I was infact born.
How splendid!
