'Apotemnophilia' is, apparently, a medical condition which gives people “the overwhelming desire to amputate … perfectly healthy limbs”. That’s pop music for you – a constant education. Remember the word, and attempt to fit it unobtrusively into at least three conversations on Christmas Day. And then report back: we will want names, contexts, times and responses.

Bearing the subject matter in mind, it seems quite fitting that after a brief intro of shimmering synths and disconcerting vocal sounds, Dandi Wind should start this single with a yell of “Doctor!” After this, the song develops into a hyperactive dance-pop-electro number, bleeping and whooshing all over the place under wild and stylised vocals. Chanting, vocoders and synthesised coolness abound, blended together into a song which, despite a slight hint of unhingedness, is cracking fun. B-side ‘Adolescent’ is a similar mix of the overtly ravey and the weirdly poppy, with the added bonuses of whistling noises and animal vocal grunts.

‘Tis a pleasing mixture of up-to-date electro technology, primal drums and emotional explicitness, of which the stylish electro beats command admiration and firework-appropriate cries of “Oooh”. Meanwhile, its weirder elements evoke surprise and just a tad of unsettlement – but personally, I’m quite prepared to be slightly alarmed in the name of such a good cause...

apotemnophilia

i have a friend whose uncle suffers from this. Chopped his own arm off...
It probably sounds kinda crazy, dangerous and cool until you see her talking about it; then you realise just how incredibly depressing it is.
