Winnebago Deal, as if you didn’t know, are the most prevalent act on the rock ‘n’ roll scene at the moment, turning it up to 11 with a sound manifested into a kind of Motorhead/Kyuss hybrid. Of course, it’s made all the more exciting when you bear in mind that this band are in fact a duo, embarrassing even the loudest quartets with two-minute blasts of sonic subjugation and sludgy noise.
The second single from long-player Flight Of The Raven sees the lead track finish before you get chance to catch your breath, sailing close to the two-and-half minute mark. However, ‘Reeper’ manages to accomplish in two minutes what Kyuss’ lesser acolytes would get done in four, with a menacingly addictive chorus, a worthy solo and a couple of verses to sweeten its stay. The two Bens put to bed any idea that Winnebago Deal have lost their spark, and proceed to attack their instruments as if their lives depended on it.
Its tone is insouciant, the instruments are God-botheringly loud, and it’s among the finest rock ‘n’ roll singles released this year. Winnebago Deal have still got it.
