The fact that neither Romo or Electroclash made a big splash outside of anywhere except the fashionable havens of media-central London doesn't seem to have deterred The Modern.
As bold and brash as you'd expect anyone so blatantly wearing their influences in six foot high stencilled clothing all over their bodies to be,'Industry' is the sound of a band who know their Depeche Mode from their Human League like a burger connoisseur would know a BK whopper from his Big Mac.
As pop tunes go, 'Industry' is actually quite catchy, but with lines like "we'll dance together on the factory floor" don't expect the kitsch factor to last long before the sick bags and Plax make a timely entrance.

is it possible...
...that one day there might be a review of an electro tinged tune on DiS which says more than one of these?
1) Electroclash is over, how unfashionable and therefore rubbish
2) This tune is ok, but the synth is too loud... I can hear it
3) Quite fun at first, but then it makes youbored/sick because it's far too electro.
I was in a pub in Stoke
waiting till Biffy Clyro came on at the Sugarmill and this lot were sitting on the table opposite. Hah, they were tryna impress my female mates to no avail as they were playing at the same time as Biffy in a different club.
seemed very affable, but too old to be wearing their clothes. Odd observation, but it's true.

i like the modern, harsh review by someone who clearly doesnt like electro. havent heard the single but thort they were real good live. i like electro from the 80s and i like the modern.
I think if
you look at my profile mate you'll see I like a lot of electro - Add (N) To X, Adult., Boards Of Canada, Kraftwerk and The Human League amongst others. I gave it 6/10, which means I consider it to be above average. I don't think thats harsh. Some would say I may have bee overly generous...
I'm an absolute electro freak
Especially '80s stuff. And I would love to get behind the Modern. But the problem is they've forgotten to write any decent tunes. (Tragically, they actually sound a bit like my own disastrous attempts at electropop when I was a teenager.)
Maybe they'll be one of those bands who suddenly get good a bit down the line? I dearly hope so.
yeah...
but thats all electronica/techno rather than electro.
I dunno, I don't want to get into an argument with you about what music you like (because its an argument I could never win)
I'd say that 6/10 doesn't tie in very well with the words which preceeded it.
Also, please don't be upset (I'm not trying to imply that you are upset) because I really appreciate the reviews and stuff even when I don't agree with their sentiments.
See your point
Jez
To be honest, I don't mind The Modern. Jane Falls Down was a cracking single. I just think this falls short somewhat.
ditto
that's exactly right.
yes, and for the record: electro and electronica aren't the same thing. Jez is right.
the modern are
fucking rubbish.
How very Modern
I think The Modern are fantastic! Only just found out about them from a gig that I went to a couple of weeks ago and I was blown away by how good they are live. Very rarely do I come across a band who can:
A) can acutally sing live
B) hold my attention and get me to dance
C) It helps that the lead singer is fit!
And also to put "fucking rubbish" as your only comment is crap. x
