*Black Rebel Motorcycle Club * explain in the press release that their forthcoming album Howl, from which this single is taken, represents a bit of a departure for the band. The explanation is that, having thrown everything they possibly could into their last record, they couldn't think of a way to take rock'n'roll forward. So their next album will mainly be featuring country, blues, folk, soul, r'n'b and pop.
Hmmm. Well, I suppose there're only so many ways to rip off The Jesus and Mary Chain. But when looking for another legacy to plunder they could always have chosen that of another rock'n'roll band, rather than the ill-favoured Bob Dylan/Bon Jovi hybrid for which they seem to have gone. BRMC have always been something of a dumb band, but at least they used to be big and dumb. Now they're merely dumb, and listening to this record in all its ill-conceived New Direction antiglory is just really, really embarrassing.

I liked their first album, but after seeing them live and listening to their really poor second album, i forgot about them.

I quite like it, I couldn't give a shite if they're JAMC rip-off merchants, they have written some good songs. Second album was meh. I probably won't buy this album, but this single sounds decent.

ok, both their albums get boring and are hard to listen to all the way through, but they've got some killer songs which come down with a storm live - correction, BRMC are AMAZING live.

Its quite patently obvious to anyone who has a decent JAMC collection that they aped them. Nothing really wrong with that - decent reference point and they had their own tunes. JAMC were always much much better but the first BRMC CD was good.
But this latest track - different? - ha! That's a laugh, it's about as as different as a blade grassin a twenty acre field! Drab, boring rubbish - welcome to the end of your career BRMC.
Re: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way
But i do think that BRMC weren't that much close to JAMC in their first album and certainly not aping.

What's your point?

But of course I can see the comparision. Heck, they probably stole their name from that Motorcycle tune off Psychocandy.
