What's that? Don't say Beck? Shit, sorry. Can't be helped though - just listen to this.
Tom Vek's persistent pleas for the avoidance of the B-word seem somewhat shorn of substance when the critic is presented with C-C...', a song that admittedly doesn't rob wholesale from He That Can Not Be Named, but nevertheless evokes thoughts of no one else. Its ramshackle thrift store beats 'n' breaks are immediately reminiscent of... um... oh you know.
Sorry, but this can't be summarised any other way; even the names rhyme for crying out loud. At least Vek has the decency to close out with a single-edit staggered fade that's utterly unbecoming of YouKnowWho circa 1996. File under Unlikely To Play Twice.

Tom Vek - C-C (You Set The Fire In Me)
I saw Vek and his live band this week, previously knowing nothing about him/them, and throughout it just kept reminding me of 'Power' by Q and not U (which was a massive disappointment for me after their earlier stuff). And yet the crowd seemed to be lapping it up.
Tom Vek - C-C (You Set The Fire In Me)
I like this song. Have been singing it loudly in random locations for weeks. Comparing him to Beck and thus giving him a dodgy review seems a little unfair.
Tom Vek - C-C (You Set The Fire In Me)
Not interested in Tom Vek, but I agree, just because he sounds like Beck he warrants a 2 out of 5 review? That's ridiculous, the song isn't a BAD song even if it does sound like someone else.
Tom Vek - C-C (You Set The Fire In Me)
It's an uninspiring song, though, so 2 out of 5 sounds about right to me. I guess it sounds like Beck, but not particularly good Beck and when Beck's bad he's only worth 2 stars too.
Re: Tom Vek - C-C (You Set The Fire In Me)
It's utterly boring.
I thought it was quite charming initially - the woozy organ is rather good - but once the limitations rear their heads, it's impossible to ignore them.
Vek rather blew his load with the last single, methinks.

Tom Vek - C-C (You Set The Fire In Me)
Personally I think this is really good, and aside from the fact that they're both one-man bands, I don't see too many similarities to Beck. Since when did Beck use so much bass?
Tom Vek - C-C (You Set The Fire In Me)
Sod that, Vek to me is quality. I think his songs have hidden depths. The parts that people might mistake as 'boring' are infact quite intense and add to this awkward and uneasy song. Meet Tom Vek and you might understand where he's coming from... People either get it or they dont. Im one of the lucky ones who does!
PS. As a huge Beck fan i really can't see any significant similarities.
