In a minor shock to many, it appears that Ryan Adams might have wandered back - finally - to what he does best. No eighties rock pastiches, just a simple, lilting country-ish ballad, with thanks to his new(ish) supporting band The Cardinals.

True, much of the fun of Adams is seeing what he's up to next, but there's a sigh of relief to hear him slide into the musical slippers in which he's most comfortable. Perhaps though, it's because this writer's favourite Ryan records were always Whiskeytown ones, and this touches more on them ('Strangers Almanac' era ) than anything else.

Regardless, 'Let It Ride' is a wistful traveller's tale, taking in Tennessee, Carolina, the Cumberland River and the moon, and it's great. It's also download only and is a forerunner for his 'Cold Roses' double-LP out next week.

Welcome back Ryan.

Ryan Adams - Let It Ride

Much as I've enjoyed Ryan's albums since, it is Gold and his previous work that have really stayed with me. This is very promising though. Every time I go to his web site I have to leave this song looping round, it's an irresistable tune. Can't wait for the album next week, just hope a double album doesn't dilute his talent - can't help thinking that's been a bit of a problem recently. Still, even at his least strong moments, most other solo artists don't come close.

Ryan Adams - Let It Ride

Anyone heard any rumours of any UK dates yet?

Been reading about the show in LA over the weekend - apparently he played until he was literally too drunk to continue.

Bless that eccentric, weird little man...

Re: Ryan Adams - Let It Ride

I think he's playing Glasto, and I think there's going to be a secret warm up show before. In London, surprisingly...

Re: Ryan Adams - Let It Ride

He was printed in the NME glasto list in the printed mag, but removed from the website [so I hear] and isn't listed anywhere else.

Curious..
