Feeder bloke Grant Nicholas has been seen hanging out with Chris Martin and Fran Healy (who, along with band mate Dougie Payne, ‘sings’ backing vocals here). Unsurprisingly then, Feeder’s new single ‘Tumble And Fall’, sounds exactly like Coldplay and Travis.
It’s also the most insipid thing Feeder have committed to record in quite some time. This is indie-guitar-‘rock’ by numbers with a bored sounding Nicholas yawning his way through some half arsed songwriting: ‘Together we crawl/ forever we’ll be/tumble and fall’. Mmm...
See, Feeder, like so many artists before them, have reached the comfort zone. They’ve sold a few units, made a few bucks, and can sell out aircraft hangers with ease. Gone is any drive or passion they ever had in the first place, with the likes of ‘Cement’ or even ‘Buck Rogers’ sounding like a distant memory. Sure there may be a good reason for that (do I really have to spell it out?) but surely Feeder are capable of doing better. Shame.

Feeder - Tumble And Fall
Its a shame really as I had a soft spot for Feeder once upon a time, but now they've landed head first in the bin marked Coldplay et al. Sad.

I like ..Trail Of Dead. 'Q' said the new album was hit-and-miss so I take it it's a glorious masterpiece and near-perfect?

this song really deserves more than one star, monkey dude.

Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall
i guess i could say the same. they were one of the first bands i started going to see regularly. but there's no excusing this song, or indeed the output of the last two years. they were never a great band, but they were a good band with lots of energy and the potential to be better. those two qualities seem to have gone hurtling down the drain... thing is though, i don't think they care much anymore. they decided to sit back creatively, and they're doing it.

BUT
Then I heard the album and I have to say it's a better album than CIS. Still way off early form though.
This song is a big mistake though and one I can't fathom. Not only is it the worst song on the album, it's one of the worst they've ever written.
If you're a Feeder fan and don't like this, you should give the album a try

I'm also pretty worried about Idlewild, as in the past three years three out of my five favourite bands have gone shite...
Feeder - Tumble And Fall
Still that signed copy of their first album made me a nice £50 on ebay a while back.
Re: Feeder - Tumble And Fall
Alternatively, you could have been kicking som prog-metal stylies with me. I say pants to the effect on Feeder on your life. Pants.

I hope they've just had a dreadfull choice for first single from the album. They've definately put more people off hearing it then turned on new folks to themselves. Shame.
Feeder - Tumble And Fall
Still, at least was a tune.
Feeder somehow overstep the cringe-factor to the point where people don't notice and just accept it. Weird world.
Feeder - Tumble And Fall
Feeder were also the band that got me into music as I am today; the likes of Cement, High, YWTS, Insomnia and even Buck Rogers and Turn etc (afterall, they were the songs that helped give 'my' band the success they had long deserved) still send a tingle down my spine whenever I hear them. I too was disappointed at CIS, though it still had 3 or 4 songs on I consider among my favourites, the new album I'll pass judgement on after I've listened to it a few times. Grant is just writing what comes naturally to him at the time, like he says, he can't force out a heavy song just for the sake of it. Feeder will always get criticised for releasing slower songs now because of their past releases, but if you look at the first 3 albums the single releases were almost 50-50 slow/upbeat anyway...
Feeder - Tumble And Fall
i saw this on T4 and hmm, sounds like coldplay but even mellower
a little boring on the very first impression.

Disappointed
I was so disappointed with this song, and the new album. I've lover everything Feeder have done before this and enjoyed watching them chage and progress over the years, but they've gone too far now. There are one or two passable songs on 'Pushing the senses' such as 'broken glass', 'pilgrim soul' and 'tender', but a return to something a bit more like 'sweet16' would be more than welcome. Sad really.
