Now usually, we’re more than delighted when Italian leftfield goodies Homesleep Records whack their latest singles club release in the ol’ EU postage system toward the crumbling edifice of DiStowers. This time, however, the postie’s present has left a slightly bewildered and extremely unsatisfied scraping mess in our ears. If you know what I mean.
The Butterflies Of Love hail from New Haven, Connecticut, and are purveyors of exceedingly bland middle class Indie Pop that really seems a lot more interesting on paper – for a band made up of a 'Divinity School graduate', an 'iron on expert', an 'audio-visual technician' and a self-proclaimed 'art recycler' - there’s an intriguing deficit of ideas in the music. Overreaching and self-satisfied, it’s the musical equivalent of a Carla Lane 'comedy'.
Still, it’s part of the label’s usually reliable singles club, and given the usual quality of Homesleep-endorsed releases, we’ll let em off this time cause we can hear Pat’s van drive up with a new batch o’ freshly baked beauties.
