Eastern Lane - Andrew, Danny, Derek, and Stuart - hail from Berwick On Tweed but the sound of their new single ‘Saffron’ is very much New York topped off with a Lydon-esque yelp.

‘Saffron’, like any good pop song, clocks in at under two and a half minutes. But it is largely unremarkable. Indeed, while listening to it one may spend this time making lazy but correct comparisons to The Strokes or The Vines while feeling they could be doing something more useful like gardening or doing the washing up.

Lavish praise has been heaped on Eastern Lane: the NME said their last single ‘Feed Your Addiction’ was ‘fierce and swaggering’; in May 2003, DiS called Eastern Lane’s debut album ‘Shades Of Black’ "simply stunning". Sadly, ‘Saffron’ is anything but. Disappointing and uninspiring maybe but stunning? No way.

Eastern Lane - Saffron

bit harsh this review i thought, its quite a good tune, havent heard the album but after hearing saffron its been put top of my shopping list.

Re: Eastern Lane - Saffron

mmm maybe but it sounds like a carbon copyof everything else that's around at the moment... the strokes, the vines, razorlight etc etc zzz.
I just expected a bit more y'know?

Eastern Lane - Saffron

Ive got their album, and saw them 3 times (3 different tours in Holland. dont know why) . They do Rock live. Really cool, and not SO unoriginal. (well.. i dont know this new tune)

Re: Eastern Lane - Saffron

Eastern Lane - Saffron

This song is very good, as is the album IMO. Why no review of "The Article". I may have to purchase the first LP too.

harsh review, but everyone is entitled to an opinion.
