So, after the rather confusing sight of watching fun Fab and jubby Julian et all struggle on stage at a lamentable shithole like Alexandra Palace, it's reassuring to get back on track with the release of one the best tracks off of 'Room On Fire', a somewhat patchy album in the sense that, whilst good, half of the tracks failed to reach the supreme highs of the other half-dozen.

A cousin of the last album's 'Take It Or Leave It' - if only in the intensity stakes - 'Reptilia' also contains the greatest, most dynamic, uber-taut Strokes guitar solo so far. Bearing in mind that the New Yorkers regulary chuck in guitar solos that people sing at their live shows, and you realise that that's no mean feat.

Unlike previous single, the initially anaemic but ultimately obsessional '12:51', it has nothing new to offer the world, but that's not the point of The Strokes' existence. Theirs is to be the coolest, funkiest rock band in the world, and sometimes, with the likes of 'Reptilia', it's hard to doubt their claim to the thone.

I quite like this. Good riff. The only thing about the guitar solo that came to mind was that I was impressed that someone from the S*****s could play. I guess I'm not going to see too eye to eye with the reviewer, who's evidently a devoted fan, but I might venture that the reason they struggled at Ally Pally is the same as the reason they looked like rabbits caught in car headlights the first time they played Reading. Pretty+Pout doth not charisma make. (Awesome proof of this to be found in the horrible experience of watching Milla Jovovich sing in Rock The Fashion last year)

No, it's meant to be "lo-fi"...'cause lo-fi is hip, in case you'd forgotten. Admittedly, this is more bearable than anything else they've done so far, but I still don't like it.

FUck how anoying would that be to hear the crowd singing a guitar solo. Christ! I would just have to stop playing and seriously injure one of the crowd with my guitar. I thought that had gone out with Iron Maiden.

It'd be great if it were a Sonic Youth solo. Imagine a crowd of 900 people, all trying to conjure up detuned feedback sounds with only their throat... epiglottian ecstasy would be had by all.

In the words of The Strokes themselves "Take it or Leave it" as like so many other bands, they are an aquired taste. Buy this single if you like the Strokes, if you dont, jump in the river..

you can hear the vocals on the new LP. you just read in the NME they were low in the mix and thought repeating it would make you sound clever. you almost pulled it off until "wtf!?"

Alternatively, you could, like, save your pennies and your aural capacity for something like a Television LP, ''White Light/White Heat'', JR & the Roadrunners or the Nuggets Set...

Umm excuse me what are you to say the strokes are shit well other people like myself actually have good taste and like the new strokes album and the song reptilia so next time you think you can say somthing bad about the strokes rember they are better than you

i was hugely impressed with the album, and thats saying a lot considering i hated the strokes at one point, but their previous few releases have made me review my previous judgement...
