Some music adds a filmic quality to life. Broken Social Scene's ‘Cause=Time’ is a soundtrack that suggests a sunset rolling over the sea; from the salt air vocals, passing effortlessly over the languid groove of the rhythm section, to the guitars which rise and sing in celebration before fading back to the ocean shore screen.
It sounds like an anachronism; a glorious amalgamation of every great band of a faded indie era (see how many you can spot). But as pop music, this skirts perfection (and perhaps attains it) in five minutes of concentrated mazy, lazy brilliance. It’s also an excellent representative for one of the most enjoyable albums released this year.
