Contrary lil’ bastard is Max Tundra. Whacking on any of his records for the first time becomes a pick ‘n’ mix experience; his past creations have variously included appropriations of mobile phone interference, bizarre crooning and dying machinery.

Slightly surprising then – or perhaps not – that ‘Lysine’ is a fabulously quirky upbeat ditty full of cheery synths and breezy vocals courtesy of Tundra’s sister, Becky Jacobs. It makes you wanna smile. And dance. No mean feat from a tune claiming not to repeat any drum pattern throughout.

An ounce of help from Radio One or MTV and this would go top ten, such is the almost-novelty song disposition about it. A (very) alternative anthem for the summer, make no mistake.
