Covering a Rod Stewart ‘classic’ must be the final drop in the Stereophonics inevitable descent into pop mediocrity. This dull piano affair is perhaps the worst of the Phonics post ‘Performance & Cocktails’ releases. And when the chorus kicks in, it’s almost as though, by some miracle, Kelly Jones IS legendary cheese rocker Rod Stewart complete with his 20-a-day vocals and leather trousers. And just as quick as this hypothetical transformation, Mr Jones and his crew go from local boys done good, to rock stalwarts who sold out. It’s a woeful tale.
