With the Kings Of Leon’s new LP sitting high in the charts, another Neil Young’s Greatest Hits on the way, The Shins being just brilliant and The Magic Numbers in rapid ascension, The Tailors demo swings through the cornfields and into DiS’ hands at the perfect moment. Pedal steel crescendos tint these four tracks with gorgeous vibrancy and colour – ‘Backslap Club_’s slow country stomp and ‘Giddy and Maudlin’s ballad led sweetness immediately showcases this band’s knack for a killer country hook.

The catchy groove that runs through ‘A New Hairdo’ is reminiscent of Evan Dando at his best - minus all the stateside whiny bits. The vocals teeter on the edge of tearful breakdown, yet still maintain a strength and control – eat your face off Ryan Adams. The highlight and possibly the best set of lyrics DiS has ever received from the demo pile, comes in the pure heart and soul of final track ‘Your Voice’. A hymn to the pains of solitude wrapped in a harmony led, slow-swing of prickly guitars – Gram Parsons are you in there? Thank fk London can still produce people who write songs; who care about the music and their playing, and who don’t seem to give two sts about anything else.

The Tailors - Demo

Well Mr Reviewer - you've nailed that down perfectly. Jay Farrar is also in there somewhere, as is Palace/Smog's Bill Callahan. The Tailors write beautiful, emotionally wracked tunes, and they are definitely a live band worth checking out. Excellent at Dirty Pretty Things last monday, with more gigs being arranged as we speak.

The Tailors - Demo

I saw the Tailors earlier this year, but was led to believe they'd split up because their guitarist had eloped to Canada??? Fucking superb news if they haven't, as they were easily the finest country outfit l've seen for ages. 6 months ago they sounded somewhere between Uncle Tupelo, Whiskey Town & maybe a bit of Jim O'Rourke - can't wait to hear how it's sounding with pedal steel.
Anyone know when they're playing next or if the demo's available?

The Tailors - Demo

they haven't split up, and have replaced the guitarist (who I thought was outstanding) with a pedal steel which sounds incredible. The demo will shortly be available off their website which is being set up now (will post again when it's done). Best news is that their songwriting is going from strength to strength

Re: The Tailors - Demo

It's so nice to hear people who are appreciative of what The Tailors do - Adam is a class songwriter, the band are tighter than...but it's not Palace Brothers or Smog, or Bonnie Prince Billy, it's just kinda them, and that's what's amazing about them, cos they conjure up everything, but at the close of day, It's them, sure and simple. Lost for words, just listening to songs as I type, exceptionall I think is the only useful word in my vocabularly at the moment. In time, I believe this will cross all boundaries!

The Tailors - Demo

The Tailors are bringing Heartworn Fridays, the fortnightly country night they organise, into Central London next Wednesday (24th) and will be appearing alongside The Wilbrahams and Treecreeper. Check it out at the Social, Little Portland Street if you're interested...
