Wait… this is a dude?
Obvious ‘joke’ out of the way – yes, I do know Coheed and Cambria’s output pretty well, and have even interviewed odd-voiced singer Claudio Sanchez in the past – it’s down to business. Briefly, anyway, because there’s really not all that much that needs saying about hurricane-force stadium anthems like ‘Feathers’, the sort of prog-overtoned pomp-rocker that sounds a billion times better with a load of emo kids screaming the words right back at the four-piece. A personal downer: former Dillinger Escape Plan drummer Chris Pennie’s abilities are barely tested here, as the percussion plods to allow Sanchez and Travis Stever to work out guitar lines that could make Steve Howe blush. All screech and solos, ‘til fade.
A parting gag: this is taken from an album called Good Apollo I’m Burning Star IV, Vol 1: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness. These guys are clowning, right? They’re not a_ serious _band? Good. Good.

Really bland track
the new album really is a disappointment
hate....
to do this, or even be that guy....
But its actually taken from the album 'Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV part 2: No World For Tommorow'.
And the reason Chris Pennie’s abilities arnt tested is becasue its Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters fame playing on the recording.....Pennies thier live drummer.
In a weekend thread
I gave this a one-liner review. If it's the same song I thought it was Fountains of Wayne-ish pistache. I was expecting it all prog and heavy... anyway, I gave it a 5/10. Mildly entertaining, at best.
I thought that
Volume 2 was markedly better than Volume 1.
And that, as always with Coheed and Cambria, you never get a good picture of them and their albums from one single alone.
I also think that yes, they're silly, this song's silly, and everything they ever do lately is silly. The new album is so ridiculous it almost defies belief.
But god, I love it.
I'm mega disappointed with Volume 2.
Great band though.
