London party veterans Olly Dixon and Tim Lawton have clearly been taking notes from recent tourmates LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip, ditching their laptops for a live set-up on Filthy Dukesβ forthcoming debut album, due in Spring next year.
As the first of the fruits to be reaped from that endeavour, for which they made a permanent recruit of long-standing cohort Mark Ralph, βThis Rhythmβ will do nicely indeed. Stern of visage and pneumatic of feet, itβs great, populist future-schlock along the lines of New Order and Gary Numan, blessed with an uncannily Prince-like vocal turn from Late Of The Pier frontman Samuel Dust.
Light years removed from the goon-like buffoonery advocated by new rave, Filthy Dukes sound like they take loads of drugs and never end up dribbling loved-up nonsense at strangers through gritted teeth come the end of the night. In other words: fucking cool.
oh
cos drugs ARE cool!
